Honey Bee Golf Club
About
Nestled in the heart of Virginia Beach, Honey Bee Golf Club is one of the area's most popular daily-fee golfing venues. Rees Jones designed the course, incorporating water on 10 holes as well as intricate bunkering throughout. The challenging layout has several tricky doglegs and some treacherous blind shots as well. It's a golf course that demands careful course management and some strategic thinking. Accurate shot placement is also key when maneuvering the rolling fairways and contoured greens. While it's by no means an easy golf course, it is an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels, making it a popular venue for tournaments and corporate outings. For golfers looking to get an entire day of golf in, Honey Bee's sister club, Stumpy Lake, is only about half a mile away.

Love this Course
Honey Bee is always in excellent condition no matter what time of year it is. The staff is great !!
fairway
The course is very clean..they constantly blowing leaves off the course throughout the day.
Cold Day but Great Golf!
It was about 40 degrees and windy. The course was in great condition. They were working on some of the bunkers but otherwise the course was in great shape for the wintery conditions.
Best of Hampton Roads Golf Facilities
Honey Bee Golf Club is the best of the seven (now six) Hampton Roads Golf Facilities. For the value it is way better than Cypress Point and Stumpy Swamp. Not the best views around the outskirts of the course, but it is easy to play and enjoy. Most of the bunkers have been redone since the days of hardpan and sea shells. Greens were rolling great for mid November too! If they had a decent membership besides the associate one, I would make Honey Bee my home club!
Awesome value
Course was empty due to not so good weather conditions. Under 4 hours for the round. Course was in excellent condition. Even though it is fall, there were no leaves on the fairways or even most of the rough. Greens were in great shape. Bunkers on back 9 seemed to have been stripped and being prepared for new sand?? Front 9 bunkers were excellent. Overall fun course.
Good conditions and course was in good shape.
Pacer was slow because a tournament was finishing up and a lot of groups were ready to go out. A lot of groups went off as singles and two's but ended up getting together to speed up play. Course was in good shape but few of the traps had been raked. Greens were quick and grass on fairways was cut short. Weather started getting cool with Nor'easter coming into area. Overall good day.
09/28/2014 - Honey Bee
Nice cool weather with sunshine. Course was in great shape. Fairways did not roll to much because of recent rain. Greens were slow and held well with approach shots.
Overall one of the better public courses in the Virginia Beach area.
Consistantly Nice
Got a great Golf Now deal but would be happy to play here anytime for regular price. Always in nice condition, a few bunkers were ground under repair because of recent heavy downpours. A fair test of golf but not overly long so it's good for all levels of golfers Played in just about 4 hours today also..
honey bee
Course looked good. A little wet with some holes cart path only. Biggest issue was that sand traps were not groomed at all. Lots of standing water in them.
Fun Challenging Neighborhood Course
After a heavy rain the course was in pretty good shape I thought. Greens very nice. Manage tee shots on dog leg four pars for best results. I like the length of the 3 pars from the tips. Recommend.
Great course
Play was a little slow. Starting everyone on the first hole backed up the pace. Otherwise an awesome course with great staff!!!
Great fair course in perfect condition
Super golf on great course in perfect condition. Tee tes offered me a real nice rate
Unbelievably SLOOOOOOOOOOW
Great course, unless there's a log jam of players.
Course in great condition
Played here many times before and course was very dry-this time it was in great condition.
Course needs maintenance
In the 1980's and 1990's Honey Bee was in top condition. Unfortunately, I have not played there because of location and time, but playing it in those years the course was in top condition. Currently, however, the conditions have deteriorated, and the course is in bad need of repair. The greens are like concrete, and do not hold a well struck golf ball. The fairways are like mush, probably because of being lowlands and lacking adequate drainage. The sand traps are devoid of sand and packed down, to the point you can see sea shells in them. The layout is fabulous, but the course conditions ruin the game. The practice grounds were better than the golf course, and that should never be the case.
Solid Course, but doesn't handle rain well
I always enjoy playing at Honey Bee. The staff is friendly and they have a very good practice area with a nice chipping area and grass driving range. The food facilities seem largely deserted most of the time that I'm there (granted, not during peak hours usually). My only negative with the course itself is how poorly it drains. A heavy rain will leave it wet for several days.
Get there on a dry day though and you'll be in great shape.
worst bunkers
The course was in good shape except for the bunkers. The bunkers were the worst I have come across. Some had sand, some had mud , some were in need of major repair and some on the front 9 were just fine. The staff was friendly and pace of play was good.
One of the best around
This course truly makes your golf day a succes. The staff is welcoming and professional, and the course is kept in great shape. Greens are a treat and would deserve better respect from unrepared dents by players. The layout amidst houses requires a couple road crossings but the overall setting is really pleasant. It also allows for enough features to challenge your golf. One of the best in town to make your day!
