Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Seen Better Days
Fairways are in decent shape. Bunkers and a few other areas are under renovation. Raspberry tees that were moved more forward - MISTAKE - 1) people can choose to play a shorter course, and 2) don't do this unless you provide a proper tee box!! Did not notice if course rating was updated for new tee placements. Many golfers did not fix divots. Green conditions very bad on a few holes.
Greens were worst I have ever seen at this course
I have always enjoyed this course but today the greens were in the worst condition that I have seen not only at this course but any other in the region. Some may be lost entirely. Avoid this course until the greens are playable again.
Not as bad as people say
The greens are bad and the traps are water hazards. But it’s not horrible. Still an interesting layout and cordial staff.
Don't go to play the course now
First 8 greens are in terrible shape and pretty much unplayable. Bunker are in bad shape, too.
Golf Carts Didn't Work
4 of us went out for a round of golf. Course was in great condition. Everything was going smoothly until around hole 7 our golf carts started stopping and starting continuously as we drove. After a few holes of this stop and go nonsense, our golf carts eventually died on the cart path at hole 12. Let me reiterate by saying BOTH GOLF CARTS HAD TE SAME ISSUES.
We ended up calling the pro shop-- they only had one high school aged boy working. He came and brought one new cart to us after about a 25 minute wait on hole 12. Once we switched all of our golf gear into the new cart, we requested he'd bring another cart since both were dead. After about 35 minutes of waiting for the second golf cart he brought it and we switched all of our golf gear into it.
This not only slowed down our pace of play, but it also tacked on an extra hour of waiting around for such a simple thing like a golf cart to work. The kid in the pro shop said this happens frequently. I suggest Old Hickory invest in a few new golf carts, or some new batteries, or a charger to charge the carts. I've played golf all over the area and never has this happened to me. Ruined a great golf outting.
Great time
I was pleased to see that the course was in great shape, considering the amount of rain we had yesterday. The bunkers had standing water in them, but that is to be expected. The fairways were firm, consider the rain, and drained very well. Since some of the greens were not in the greatest of shape, overall, the course is very well maintained and great for playing.
