Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Unfortunately Poorly Kept
Aug 2020 - Fairways had lots of burnt spots. Greens have been torn up by the geese. Tee boxes lacked grass. The course has potential but they don't seem to be doing enough to repair the issues. Design is unique for the area and is a fun course, but not necessarily worth the $65+ they are charging.
If they repaired the fairways and greens the course would be worth a visit for the price but until then I wouldnt recommend.
What Happened to this place?!???
I’ve played Old Hickory (and enjoyed the experience) many times. In fact, I played it earlier this year (Aprilish) and the course was in phenomenal shape. But currently, the course is a complete disaster. As noted in other reviews, the fairways have a lot of bare spots, tee boxes are in rough shape, bunkers are unplayable and the greens are beat up. It’s sad to see how far the quality of this course has dropped in only a couple months. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth playing here until maybe next year.
This course is in horrible shape
I’ve been to Old Hickory many times and unfortunately the conditions are absolutely atrocious this summer. Management doesn’t seem interested in caring for any part of the course - tee boxes, fairways, and greens are all in horrible shape. The worst part of my experience today is they charged me $60 for 9 holes. I don’t think I’ll go back any time soon.
Great layout, horrible conditions
The layout of the course is extremely well thought out and offers a challenge. You have to be strategic on you slot selections and be fairly accurate. Unfortunately the course conditions were awful. The fairway wasn't that bad, but the greens are in bad shape. Once they improve the greens, the course will be back to it's usual 4 star rating course.
Do Not Play This Course!!!!!!
My father and I traveled from NC to DC for a golf trip to play a few courses with my brother. This course is horrendous. We only play the first hole. The tee box was damaged and had fungus all over it. The fairway looked like a tank had driven over it. We went back to the clubhouse to get a refund. They promptly gave us a refund which made me think they knew how rough the course was. They were nice about the refund and courteous during the entire exchange. I would not recommend this course until they do major maintenance.
Great Challenging Design but....
You can tell this is a championship course by design but the lack of upkeep doesn’t live up to the green fees. It’s quite a shame really because when this course is groomed it is one of the best around the area. It was not worth the $70 to play in the condition it’s in this summer (2020). Also, for whatever reason, the people who play this course just don’t even bother to repair their pitch marks on the greens. Really disappointing overall.
HMMM... course was in worst shape ever!!
Paid $54 after 3pm. Not worth the money!!
Weed growing on greens, tee box and fairway. Looks like course isn’t spending any money on maintenance at all.
Old Hickory Golf Course should be CLOSED DOWN!!!
Hello!
My buddy and I have been golfing for years. We love to golf at beautiful golf courses in VA especially when we have to pay a decent price for a round of 18 holes. Since May of this year 2020, we have played over 8 different golf courses and not once have we been as disappointed as we were yesterday (Sun Aug 02, 2020) when we played 18-holes at Old Hickory!!
We paid 74$ for the most horrendous terrain not to mention the geese poop that we have to deal with.
We also had to sit and waited on every single hole. Some of these players are either clueless or just don't give a hoot which is very disturbing!!! Where was the course facilitator to monitor the course? Augh.....we were miserable and almost quit after the 11 hole!!
We recommend that Old Hickory should be SHUT DOWN FOREVER until the course can be remodeled !!! This was a waste of our money.
Sincerely,
Luv to Golf Girl & her Buddy
My Round
The fairways and greens are in rough shape right now. One of the guys that I played with said that's not normally the case. I will.play it again but only after they get the course looking better.
This course was destroyed
I’ve played this course many times in the past and it has been in good condition and always been fun. The course today was one of the worst golf courses I have played in my entire life. The fairways were mostly dirt, the greens and tee boxes were destroyed and had bare patches everywhere. There was crab grass everywhere and the sand traps were mud pits. The only thing that saved this day were the hot dogs and bloody Mary’s at the turn. It’s hard to see myself ever returning to this course. Hard to imagine it got to this condition.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
$60 bucks for 9 holes? That is straight up robbery.
