Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Course Condition
The weather has really done with job and many of the course. Old Hickory is one of the worst I've seen.. carts had to stay out of the fairways and could only go in the rough. They have reseeded the fairways. So they have a lot of bare spots.
Shut it down
Course needs to shut down for a couple weeks and recover. I get the demand right now but clearly not spending any money to take care of it. Terrible condition and not even trying to fix the issues. Tee box’s, bunker and fairways unplayable. $100 rip off. Starter, ranger, cart lady and turn house attendant all great.
Late in the season
I love this course, so it is hard to see the 20+ day 100 degrees really took its toll on the fairways and greens. :( I have faith that the staff will work hard to get the course back into shape for the 2021 season.
Fairways were poor on some holes, crab grass, needs maintenance. Still a great layout. But currently its difficult justifying green fees for such conditions.
Course in awful condition, diseased Greens, Weeds, mud everywhere.
This used to be one of my favorite courses. Now it is in terrible shape. Every green is diseased, most of the fairways are all weeds, horrible. Terrible shape and a real shame.
Expensive For What?
The good:
This course is a challenge from the tips, fun track to prep for tourney golf.
The bad:
80$ round... so many other course for a lot less
Crab grass on most greens
Burned out fairways
List goes on...
I wouldn’t play again. It’s a classic neighborhood built around a course type place.
Course is expensive for its condition
Course had a lot of rough patches, dried up, brown spots, on all - tee box, fairways and some greens.
Not sure why they are charging so much for this course in its current condition.
Staff are friendly.
Was slightly disappoiinted that they were not providing individual carts, though they were charging $90 for a round. I guess if you have one reservation for two, they force you to go on one cart !
This course has went to crap. I paid 90 bucks for this . You have to kidding. me save your money.
Landscaping please
Course has a fun and interesting layout, but no landscaping maintenance. Fairways with grass taller than rough, weeds throughout, crabgrass patches on the greens.
Unfortunately Poorly Kept
Aug 2020 - Fairways had lots of burnt spots. Greens have been torn up by the geese. Tee boxes lacked grass. The course has potential but they don't seem to be doing enough to repair the issues. Design is unique for the area and is a fun course, but not necessarily worth the $65+ they are charging.
If they repaired the fairways and greens the course would be worth a visit for the price but until then I wouldnt recommend.
What Happened to this place?!???
I’ve played Old Hickory (and enjoyed the experience) many times. In fact, I played it earlier this year (Aprilish) and the course was in phenomenal shape. But currently, the course is a complete disaster. As noted in other reviews, the fairways have a lot of bare spots, tee boxes are in rough shape, bunkers are unplayable and the greens are beat up. It’s sad to see how far the quality of this course has dropped in only a couple months. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth playing here until maybe next year.
This course is in horrible shape
I’ve been to Old Hickory many times and unfortunately the conditions are absolutely atrocious this summer. Management doesn’t seem interested in caring for any part of the course - tee boxes, fairways, and greens are all in horrible shape. The worst part of my experience today is they charged me $60 for 9 holes. I don’t think I’ll go back any time soon.
$60 bucks for 9 holes? That is straight up robbery.
