Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Not as good as I expected
Course conditions were not very good. Patchy rough and bumpy greens. Since when should a pandemic prevent repairing your ball marks? Also, it seemed like most holes were just like the last, with maybe 4 or 5 of them different than the rest. Finally, tee and pin placement had every par 3 playing very short. We played whites on the front, and golds on the back, and I never needed more than an 8 iron.
Not bad, but overpriced for the conditions
Good: Great layout and a very interesting/ challenging course. Staff was great as well.
Bad: The current conditions just don't warrant a $100 price tag. Bunkers in awful shape all around with some unplayable altogether. And it's not a coronavirus thing... they've clearly been left to rot for quite some time. Rough was very spotty on many holes. Lastly, it turned out to be the longest round I've ever played at 5+ hours.
Ultimately, would I recommend? Yes. At the same time, I'll be visiting a handful of other courses before coming back again, if that even happens. Reduce your rates to match the conditions provided to patrons.
Great staff. Great track.
Can’t say enough about this course. The staff is great. Polite and helpful, not snooty. For early spring, conditions are great and the greens are coming in nicely. Great lay-out and combination of holes. Thank you Old Hickory for keeping us sane during the pandemic.
Great course
Bunkers need additional sand. Very hard packed dirt Nice course overall.
Great Staff
The staff at Old Hickory is friendly and professional. They have taken all the appropriate safety precautions to protect patrons during the COVID19 outbreak.
Cold and Blustery
Great Gary Player course . Fairways are lush ie..no Bermuda ! Greens are playing well inspite of airing! This course has an intimacy that Raspberry Falls lacks.
Not ready yet
They had recently punched the greens so not true roll. Grass not growing in yet and course needed some time for that.
Great layout
Always enjoy playing this course. Get'em straight score well, get off line, hold on to your hat.
Great Course
I though Old Hickory was in excellent shape for this time of the year. The Greens were fine, slightly slower than usual. The Fairways were great and the grass was growing and green. I am looking forward to playing again in the near future.
Great layout
Fantastic layout. Course in good condition for early spring . Tees & greens in good shape. Fairways coming in nicely for this fine of year.
Crowded but pace of play was ok. We will definitely play again
Course in Good Shape
Play here a few times a year. Played on a nice day at the beginning of March. Course was in pretty good shape for that time of year. Enjoyed the round!!
So much potential
I can't help but wonder whether the poor conditions were attributable to the winter weather and considerable rain in the last few weeks. The layout is top notch, but the course is in need of considerable work. It's going to take a lot of money, labor, time and sun to get this course where it deserves to be, and that, potentially, is one of the best public venues in NoVa.
A Soggy Round
Even though the course was soggy after it rained the previous day and that morning surprisingly the course, especially the green, held up well. Hopefully all the water goes a long way to a course in excellent condition in the spring.
