Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Not the Old Hickory
Crabgrass is taking over the fringe on the greens. Bunkers are in bad condition. Fairways are brown in some places. Heat is really taking its toll. I’ll be back...
A Bit Beat Up
I've played Old Hickory quite often over the years. In general, a nice course with a good mix of hard and easy holes. The course is a bit beat up right now. Many tee boxes are bad shape. I wish they provided a sand/seed mix so players might repair their damage. Fairways are a mixed bag. We rolled the ball in the fairway to get a decent lie. The greens have some weed issues on the surrounds but generally roll ok. Not sure why but there seems to be less ball mark fixing on this course than others in the area. That's on the players, not the course. My biggest issue is paying $92 for these kinds of conditions. I'll come back to OH when I can get a rate that matches course conditions or when the conditions improve to merit that price.
This could be a really great course
It is challenging and looked beautiful online. But the course suffered badly through the lack of rain and is in horrible condition.
Worst Course in NOVA
Definitely not worth the $80 on GN. The greens are burnt and crab grass infested. Fairways are mediocre at best and don’t even talk about the bunkers. None of the bunkers are playable as the are filled with water and have zero sand. Management should consider closing this course until major repairs are complete.
Overpriced for conditions, nice layout and design, but conditions are unfortunately sub par..
On my do NOT play list now
Wow is all I can say. I played here several years ago and liked the course, so we booked a tee-time last week. I read the recent reviews the day we were playing and was shocked. Then was really shocked when I saw it for myself. It's a shame that this once nice track has been totally let go. We actually described it as a "Dog Track". We won't be back. The staff was nice, but the course is in disrepair. Tee boxes, fairways, greens, bunkers, rough, all of it is in awful shape.
Course was in terrible condition
Burnt tee boxes, horrible rough (sparse or dirt). Grreens covered in ball marks. Sand traps were mud bowls. One of the worst shape courses I have ever played. The design is awesome, the condition is terrible and not worth the money.
Shocked
The course was not in good condition. The greens were burnt in several places. The fairways were spotty at best. This course used to be wonderful. I have no idea what happened.
Great Layout
Course could be in better shape, but the greens rolled well and the course design/layout is great. Multiple tee box options make it fun for both beginners and advanced golfers.
Terrible Condition
I have played Old Hickory many times as I only live 10 minutes. Recently before Sunday I had played in April. Course conditions were outstanding. i don't know what happened but the course was in terrible condition. Greens and fairways were burned and missing grass in several places. Fairways had crab grass and weeds growing, unfilled divots in the fairways, and divot marks on the greens. People obviously don't care about a course in the this condition. Due to the conditions (we played in the morning) course was over watered to the point of the fairways being soggy. Trying to play a course in this condition for a score is useless. The reason why i am upset is that the pro and staff ignored the conditions did not warn players and charged a premium weekend fee for a course that can not be enjoyed in its normal state. For that reason alone, I will not play here again. You don't care about the patrons, I can not support the course. If I was a member living in this golf community I would be livid but I am sure they got some kind of discount, in which the non-members didn't receive.
Old Hickory has seen better days
At one point in time this course could demand $80+ greens fees but in the condition that it is in. They should close for he season and tend to the grounds.
The greens are in bad condition. Sand traps need a lot of attention. Fairways are rough and brown.
I would suggest playing one of other near by courses. They are in way better shape. I wouldn't pay $20 to play this course in it's current condition.
Great set-up but poor conditions
I have played Old Hickory a couple of times in the past two years and am always a bit disappointed with the quality of the course. It is priced about $20-25 too much, but I was able to get a $83 rate (thanks to GolfNow). Fairways and greens both have a lot of issues with weeds and fungus/disease. Even in the DC area, you should expect better conditions over $75. The sister property in Leesburg (Strawberry Falls) is a much better experience for the price. Starter was also not wearing a mask... Hit em straight! Steve M
Challenging but Fun course
Love this layout. A lot of challenges and hazards throughout the course and the greens definitely make you think before you putt. The staff was extremely helpful and polite and the starter seems like he has never seen an unhappy day. Will definitely played this course again.
Rough Shape
Dead grass everywhere (tee boxes, rough, fairway, greens. A lot of ground under repair. Lots of weeds and crabgrass. A lot of courses in better shape for the money.
Decent Course
Course was in 7/10 shape. Some fairways and greens had burnt out patches of grass. There was also a considerable of holes with ground under repair especially near the greens. Played the course on a hot deal. Would recommend playing it for sure but only at the hot deal rate as the course needs some TLC over the summer. I’m sure with work it will look amazing in the fall.
