Old Hickory Golf Club
About
Beaver Creek divides Old Hickory Golf Club with nine holes sitting north of the creek and nine holes south. The course has a classic parkland layout that plays across gently rolling hills. The fairways were cut through forests of mature hardwoods but they are wide and carefully sculpted to direct balls toward the middle. Skillful players could even try to use the contours to their advantage. Each hole has a bunkers but the bunkering is not excessive. In addition to the mounding and bunkering, the undulating terrain provides natural elevation changes. The golf course finishes with what is arguably its toughest hole. This monster par 5 is 620 yards from the back tees. It requires a drive over a ravine with a natural waste area to the left. Many consider it to be the toughest golf hole in northern Virginia.

Challenging course
Excellent course. Well maintained as usual. Narrow fairways and small greens. For me it was very challenging course.
Challenging Course
Old Hickory is a challenging, fun course to play with a couple of easy holes to start before getting into the round. Course conditions were typical for late summer; lots of tee box and fairway divots and ball marks on the greens. Recommend the addition of more sand boxes on the tees so players can fill in the divots. The golf carts could use the addition of a second sand bottle for fairway divots. Pace of play was slow, but there apparently was an outing in front of us.
Go to Augustine or an other the other area courses.
This place has seen better days. The fairways were ripped up and unrepaired, the greens were pock-marked. Not too much good to say except for the quick pace on the front 9 (about 1 3/4 hour) only to crawl on the back 9 to nearly 3 hours!!!) Where was the marshal was all that I thought waiting at every tee box!
For the money you'd expect better golfing...
A Gem in NoVa
As part of the Raspberry Golf Trail, Old Hickory is (to me) the best of the Virginia courses. It has more character than Bull Run, even better conditions that Raspberry Falls, and you can often play for less than either of the other two. This course really is a good value, which is saying a lot considering where it's located.
The holes have lots of variation and the conditions of the course are top-notch. Greens are pleasantly fast and firm, and hazards are mostly identifiable from the tee box.
I recommend this to anyone in the DMV area, it's a good value in an area not known for them.
It was so disappointing.
They didn't manage the pace of play at all and three of us had to play for more than 5 hours. Course condition was way poor too.
Very Nice but overplayed
The course was in good condition but very overplayed. The greens were in rough shape simply due to ball marks not being properly taken care of by other golfers. The staff all around the course were very nice. I would play here again.
Course
Great course. For a public course it is pretty good. Entire course is well maintained
Great Layout
Best layout of holes I have ever played. Some holes are almost impossible to score on., but was fun to play.Staff did not put bag on cart for me. That was a suprise at an upscale course like this. Also driving range is small.
Great layout
This is a necely designed course. Very scenic laout and can be as tough as you want it to be with several tee options. Course was in good shape and greens were fairly fast after drying out from the morning dew.
Enjoyed the round, and will definitely be back.
Old Hickory outing on 8/12/2015
Very enjoyable experience, course is always in good condition, got a good value on the round through Golf Now
splender in the grass
course was good but the tee boxes need much repair and golfer need to repair their ball marks on the greens as well in the fairways more staff need for course repair. great course but not worth the high dollars
Course Needs Work
Course needs work. Greens are pock marked and shows lack of care especially by golfers who leave marks unrepaired. Tees and fairways are beat up.
Sunday round took 5 hrs. 10 minutes. Waiting on nearly every shot.
Layout is challenging and the hole designs are unique.
Don't pay more than $55 or you'll regret it.
Great layout, greens need repair
Second time I have played Old Hickory. Very nice course and a good test of my golf level. Fairways good but greens were very potmarked with ball marks and thus bumpy. Not sure if this was due to inconsiderate players or just needs attention. Still had a great round of golf.
Premium fees and average conditions
Great course with a lot of potential, however, the bunkers - particularly on #2 and #4 where there was limited sand in bunkers and rocks throughout. Most of the bunkers on the course were fine.
Surprised that the flags were bolted to the flagsticks without prisms which made rangefinder accuracy less than desired.
Given the premium $$$ paid for green fees, it was very disappointing to find that these things were ongoing - I have played the course a lot, and had been led to believe that they were being addressed some time ago..
Great round of golf
very fun round on a very scenic course... Will definitely be back.
Chipping green 9.5
Driving range 4 (mats only and drivers only into a net
Putting green 9
Course beauty 9
Greens 8 (still recovering from aeration a little) lots of tiering but fair
Fairways 9+
Had a great time... The course is longer than most in VA and yet still fair on the drives.
Great staff and solid course conditions
All the staff we met were great and very friendly. Great greens. Range area was muddy and mats were in poor condition. Would definitely play again.
Great Value
Upscale look and feel with reasonable prices. Great greens. A couple of very unique holes.
Great course!
Played on Friday afternoon. Course was wide open and finished right at 4 hours after finally catching a group on 15.
Unfortunately, there was clearly an outing in the morning and the area around the holes on the greens was understandably, a little bumpy. Probably, why I got a good deal on golfnow, so I guess it evens out.
Almost broke 80
Always a fun track to play. Greens were still a little bumpy from aeration, but over all good time was had by all.
