Candler Hills Golf Club
About
Candler Hills Golf Club in Ocala was designed by Florida native Gordon G. Lewis. In a state that has no shortage of golf courses, Candler Hills manages to stand out. The layout offers plenty of length at 7,233 yards from the back tees. The 662-yard fourth hole is the longest par 5 in Florida. There are no water hazards on the golf course, but what it lacks in water it more than makes up for in sand. Strategically placed traps line the fairways and greens. The layout has some challenging holes but it's fair and playable for all skill levels. Candler Hills G.C. is also well known for its extensive practice facility, which has a range with target greens placed at different yardages and a short-game area with a practice bunker and undulating green.

Great Course, better staff1
From the ,moment I arrived at the course I was put at ease. I was treated to a warm welcome at the bag drop and once again when entering Pro shop. The facility and grounds are extremely clean and well maintained.
Driving range is better than most and putting green is awesome.
I choose any number of courses to play in the area and Candler Hills has become my favorite!
Great course...
As always this is an excellent golf course from the layout to the conditions. The staff is outstanding as well.
Wonderful place to Play
My experience playing at Candler Hills was amazing. It didn't start well because a fellow golfer was being unnecessarily argumentative with the sweetest lady in the proshop. He was demanding that she returned his green fees because he refused to ride in a cart with another golfer due to covid protocol. Teaching moment: when you pay for a hot deal you paid golfnow, because it is their tee time not the golf course. You should present your complaint or request to golfnow, not the course staff. After that unfortunate beginning things went great from there. The staff was awesome, the course was in good shape and the three guys that I had the privilege to play with couldn't have been better. If you have half as much fun as I did. you'll enjoy your day. It was well worth the hour plus drive from Orlando.
Challenging
Nice course. Not sure why the 90°rule. Fairways are not pristine. Many bunkers to make up for having no water hazards. Greens were in great shape.
Good Course.Well Maintaned. But
Play here often in the summer in the afternoon.
Otherwise it's very slow. Yes Retirement community. Hence really slow. They need a ranger and keep people on the clock. 5 hour rounds are ridiculous. It's a relatively easy course. Enjoyable when the heat is on the course and the old folks are not. I am 55 and the "old Folks" Taking forever watching each other line up there putts gets old fast!!!
Terrible Customer Relations
Arriving at the 1st Tee I was informed by the starter that I would have to share a cart with another golfer or pay an additional $10 fee to ride alone. Due to the COVID Virus, I have spent the last 2 years avoiding close contact with strangers. I have played approx 200 rounds of golf in the past 2 years and have never been required to share a cart with a stranger. Candler Hills decided that my health and other people health was not their concern, therefore a golfer shared a cart (with a stranger) or paid a $10 fee to ride as a single. Basically the Candler Hills Golf Club figured a way to make an additional $10... I walked off the course, never Tee'd off, and would never go back again. If $10 is that iunportant to Candler Hill Golf Club, they wiull have to get it from someone else...
Great Golf
The course was in excellent condition and the staff was friendly and professional.
Expectations
I always expect Candler to be in excellent shape and fun to play--- and it is!
Great Staff!
The course is in great condition and a pleasure to play despite it not being very long. THE STAFF is incredible. From the gentleman at the carts, to the pro sho and to the first tee, everyone is over the top friendly and makes you feel welcome. Honestly the best experience I've ever had at a course from this standpoint, and I've played a lot of courses. Great job Candler Hills.
Excellent
First times I w played the course. I usually play the muni course in Gainesville so this was a treat. The lush fairways and greens were a highlight. I need to practice on fast greens like these to get good. Alas, I can’t afford to do so. It’s worth the trip for an occasional golf treat.
Well manicured, challenging, pricey
I was happy with the conditions, pace of play and amenities of the course. I'm a working-class guy who usually plays on munis. So this was a treat to spend this much to play. The most difficult thing to adjust to is the ultra-fast greens, If you have a similar playing profile, arrive early and spend more time on the practice green. Staff was friendly. The wide, lush fairways were also a treat, as my course is not lush and it's tight. This place is wide open, so it's difficult to lose a ball. No water hazards but plenty of traps.
