Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
About
The Bear Course is one of two courses at the Bear Creek Golf Complex; it is a championship-length course while the other, the Cub Course, is an executive length course. The Bear Course is an inland, links-style course with rolling fairways and well-manicured greens. Strategically placed bunkers situated throughout the course add some challenge to the course. A round of golf on this course can be played in less than four hours. The Bear Creek Golf Complex, in addition to the two courses, also offers a full grass driving range, two putting greens, and a short game area with a bunker.

Where's the beverage cart?
After an hour frost delay, we never saw the beverage cart after the 2nd hole! My partner is diabetic and needs food on a regular basis. We also ran out of water that we brought! The canadians in front of us were crying for beer. Lost opportunities for food & beverage services!! Play was extremely slow (5+ hours) finished just before dark (started @ 12:30). Next time will book an earlier tee time and bring plenty of water and food.
Hidden value gem in Sun Lakes
6-7 HCI played the gold/back tees
Bear Creek is a fun but reasonably challenging course with a good balance of interesting-but-not-treacherous undulation and well-placed defensive bunkers. This was my first time playing the course and I found it quite fair and navigable while each drive and approach still required some positioning and forethought. There is some forgiveness for missing fairways into the mostly-playable desert/waste area. Greens were pacey, rolled smooth and in excellent shape. Course maintenance is clearly a priority for both the staff and players of this reasonably-priced public venue (just $70 in the winter).
Friendly staff helped us early birds get through a frost delay smoothly (not their fault, obviously). Once we were off and running the pace of play was solid and all the groups seemed to be able to hold to time except in a few places where the track layout causes a little congestion (an easy four followed by a long uphill 3 for instance). Overall an enjoyable layout and a good round pace of about 4:10.
Highly recommended for those in search of a solid local round when visiting the south side of the Phoenix area. Bear Creek is great value for money (especially vs the resort golf experiences for which Phoenix is famous but will bankrupt you if you play them all the time!).
Good course, beautiful fairways
Had a great day, first time playing and they did a great job with fairways.
PERFECT SHAPE
Have been playing this course for years and the last two times we played the course it was in the best shape I have ever seen it.
Some improvements
Easy to find, easy check in, carts well used but work ,sand bottles on carts, no water on course for us and no ice out for us either, tees good but used pretty well all ready, fairways pretty nice, roughs pretty spongy and sometimes hard to make contact, greens seem quite good and roll pretty nice, bunkers need sand and rakes, have bordered the pond with rocks and cleaned it up some, was thinking they need another set of tees between reds and whites then saw combo set up on the card, but another set would be better, pricecall ready pretty high on GN, seems like they are not very nice to season pass holders charging a walking fee between 8 and 12, but as with most they are there for the money, will go back depending on the price
Bear Creek Chandler AZ
Good links type course. First time and liked it. Great fairways.
Nice Course
There was a 90 minute frost delay, but the course sent me an email early so that was a nice gesture. (Thanks Carlo) Can't do anything about Mother Nature and Bear Creek handled it perfectly. Fairways and tee boxes were outstanding, and greens rolled nice. It was nice to see improvements were made to the course during the overseed. I played as a single with three very nice gentlemen from Canada, which made for a very relaxing round.
penalized for walking
Paying a cart fee even though you choose to walk, never in 35 years of playing Golf have I paid the same green fees if I chose to walk. I asked since when, no response. Very disappointed with this policy.
Nothing special
The course is nothing special, very ordinary and nothing scenic.
Course With Character
We have played 9 courses this past month in the Mesa, Tempe, Chandler area and Bear Creek is our favourite so far. Pricing is especially important and the layout and condition of the course has ranked it number one on our golfing list. Finally a course with some character!
