Needs a lot of TLC
Pro shop staff and starter super friendly. However, we were quite disappointed in the overall state of this course (especially when it had garnered so many great reviews). While the greens were well kept and manicured, the rest of the course was in very poor shape. Fairways had minimal grass, and the bunkers had no depth (of sand) and were muddy in spots. Its hard to hit a good chip shot when the 'rough' around the greens is thin/sparse grass on dirt. You could hit a "perfect" tee shot, middle of the fairway, only to watch the ball run off into the rough (i.e. Jail) on a lot of the holes . Seems like they didn't put any $$ into building 'good' fairways, or bunkers. We won't return.
like a links golf couse
beautiful scenic views on the mountains
very nice design
but a littke some water for help to support the ball on a fairway because is very dry!
Review
Good course, but extremely poor conditions except for greens. Some tee boxes have been let go and are now covered in weeds. Fairways are ok, rough is a mix of grass and weeds. Course clearly hit by the tough times.
Salt Creek
Bang for your buck. Different looks off the tee and the greens were great. Fun course to play. Little slow and I didn't see any marshals but I lucked out with the group I was with. Practice facility was impressive. Seemed there was a putting or chipping area everywhere I looked upon entry.
Slow Play
Played on a Sunday and at the pro-shop they said they had a lot of cancellations due to the weather.....and it still took 4:50 to play 18......ridiculous.
Challenging layout but missing turf in areas
Course was bare of grass in areas looked like lack of water was the problem.
great value
Great value for the money, should play here more often. Could have a few more specials during the week. None the less, still a very nice course.
GOOD CHALLENGE
IS NOT EASY PLAY HERE, THAT'S WHY IT IS FUN.
IT IS A NICE COURSE
Beautiful views of the area
Really enjoyed the course after I got used to the sloping fairways. It helped that we were paired with guys who had played the course. It was fun to play!
like a ski station
if you are looking for change of elevation go ahead impossible to walk but very nice scenery around
Course looked like maintenance has been abandoned
Pace of play was excellent because there were not many people there. This might have been a nice course once, but the fairways are dirt and weeds. Other courses in the San Diego area have found a way to continue maintenance of their courses despite low water conditions. Too bad Salt Creek looks like it has abandoned course maintenance. Staff, except for the very friendly cart girl, seemed indifferent to providing any customer service. This course came highly recommended to us. I wonder why.
Challengign course
Very nice and beautifull course which is quiet difficult first time you play it. Pity that there has not fallen rain for many weeks. Highly recommandeball and good valuer for money.
Hybrid Links Course
This is a very good course. The greens are always in very good condition, and always roll pure. The course plays for the most part like a links golf course, rolled and sloped fairways allows a ton of roll out on tee shots. The fairways could use a little more care, but as with all links courses, expect somewhat dried out fast and firm conditions. The greens are by far the best aspect of the course.
Great location
Enloyed the links style of the course and the conditions added to the challenge. The side sloping fairways came into play on most holes. The sand bunkers can do with a makeover.
slow play
very disapointed with pase of play they let a 5some go off then a 6some never saw a players asst.
Get what you pay for
Salt Creek is my favorite course South of San Diego.
Pros: worth the money, greens were slow(yeah, usually they are fast) fairways had some green to them.
Con: rocks in bunkers and rock hard so to say
The tee-time was booked in the middle of a shot-gun; told that there was a half-hour wait; plus. The starter let us go and find a spot in the back nine; thank you very much.
Overall the course is fun and worth every cent; better for local players; you would not want to bring a business guest and not have a tee-time.
I can recommend to my GolfNow buddies.
HAS SOME GREAT VIEW
IT WAS A GOO DAY WEATHER WAS GRAT WASENT TO MANY PLAYERS WAS ABLE TO FINISH I GOOD TIME
Great course for the money!!!
Course is always in good shape. Greens are firm and fast. A good drive is critical in many holes.
Good shots not rewarded
This course does not reward good shots. You can never aim at the hole or the center of the fairway so you do get some target golf practice. On the other hand the fairways are in poor condition, so expect to hit a lot of tight lies. I would say the 14th and 15th holes are probably the most dangerous in the San Diego area. Got hit on the 14th and two balls rolled in front of me on the 15th. They run side by side and poor golfers have no knowledge that their slices are dropping into people. The 16th hole is designed for only pros' to be able to par.
A Good Experience
Many previous reviews criticize the conditions of the course, pace of play etc. If those folks want pristine conditions they should play Torrey Pines. But if you don't want to pay a small fortune but still play an interesting and challenging course at a realy reasonable rate this is a good option.
