This course has never heard of pace of play
18 holes waiting on every single shot tee to green. Total waste of time it's not Golf it's waiting
nice greens
Greens are best part of this course. FW 's hard as rock and brown. Bunkers are terrible as they are a mixture of mud, dirt and small rocks. New sand is required. Layout is generally good except for 2 goofy holes. Pace of play was decent. Played the course before and not sure why the 2nd hole is now 18,and 18 the 2nd hole. The flow does not suit this change as. The old 18 was always a good finishing hole. The switch has made for a weak finish.
Good For The Price
I have played this course many times over the tears and have watched it slowly decline to a just ok course. I will say the greens are in great condition but all the fairways had bald spots and many of the approach shots in the middle of the fairway had dead grass or dirt. Every sand trap had a mixture of dirt and something resembling sand which was really disappointing . I would like to see someone bring this course back to being relevant again.
inland links course
pretty value for a hot deal price. greens were good and fast. like so many courses, you need to bump your ball due to inconsistent fairways meaning a little spotty. all in all, a good value for a unique course 30 minutes southeast of Downtown San Diego.
Great Lynx style course
Great value. Very challenging with risk/reward opportunities for longer players. Greens were in good shape, rough was treacherous, elevation changes invited aggressive play to shorten holes. Ravines and carries etched distinct memories in this golfer. Club house was less than scintillating, but staff was warm, helpful, and friendly.
Links style course
The course itself is pretty unique for the area since it is a links style. I think the course is extremely difficult because of how hard the ground is and the amount of hill. You may hit a great tee shot but it's going to roll somewhere you can't find it. I played twilight both times and because it's so cheap for twilight it seems like everyone in SD is out there and there's no course marshal in sight to keep the pace of play. There's also no one keeping track of when people start so it's kind of a free for all. I'm not sure if I'll play the course again because of the pace which sucks because it's a good challenging course.
salt Creek
Good course and fun to play I would recommend this course
San Diego Gem
So many golf courses have housing communities completely surrounding every hole, not the case at salt Creek. When we do receive our allotted annual rainfall the conditions at Saltcreek cannot be beat, stunning vistas and challenging layout this course is truly a hidden gem in San Diego County.
Good condition
Played as a foursome at 6:56 am. Had a twosome in front and a foursome behind, but spacing was so great that we felt like we had the course to ourselves. I love that. Staff in pro shop was friendly. Greens were in fantastic shape and very fast. So fast that on some, I rolled all the way across them several times (sigh). Hole 12 could use longer grass. Even if you landed on the top, it would roll all the way down into the junk. This is one of my favorite courses. I would play it more often if it wasn't so expensive on Sunday mornings.
Salt creek
Links course on side of mountain. Local knowledge required to take advantage of tee shots and slope of fairways. Very fast, hard greens. Bump and run all day.
Overall, fun place to play.
salt creek review.
The course was in pretty good condition. The putting was very nice, but tough.
Ran Down
Course is in terrible shape. I used to play this course when it was kept up and enjoyed it quite a bit. It looks as if a bomb has hit it. Very disappointed.
Good value.
Played over Thanksgiving and played 18 holes in less than 4 hours. Not the best shape, but a great layout.
Course Comparisions
When I see a rating system for a facility I expect it to be an unbiased appraisal. Since 199 previous golfers have given a review of this course I expected it to be a fair assessment of the course. I don't play golf at expensive country clubs, just average courses that provide a day of golf at a reasonable price. I've played all of the military courses in the San Diego area, plus some of the public courses. Every course I've played was rated somewhere between 3.5 stars and 4.2 stars according to the reviews I've read. To be fair most of these courses should have been given no more than 3 stars. Coronado GC would probably fall into the 4 star category because of it's location. Torrey Pines would be close to a 5 star course. Now, to rate Salt Creek a 3.8 star course is an insult to the courses I've listed above. I can say in my 45 years of playing golf this worst golf course conditions I've ever seen. The fairways are so bad it's like playing on hard ground that's been sprayed with a coating of mulch made to look like grass. The tee boxes have small depressions in them so it's hard to find a level stance when teeing off. The sand traps are not maintained. Sand laying on the sides of the traps, foot prints that aren't raked. The rough is so bad your ball sinks into areas that the grass has died from the lack of water. The picture being shown for the facility must have been taken 20 years ago when they watered it. It doesn't look like that picture now...
Challenging but fun
Perfect greens, lots of levels both on the green and fairways
Good Track
Play the right tee for you this golf course will challenge you . play to far back and you will lose golf ball all day like the group in front of me did . Try this course it is a good place to play .
After the Rains
Played this past weekend on Sunday, amazed at how the course drained and we did not have to adhere to cart path only. Staff always great, the club house always has multiple NFL games on after the round and will tune in any game you like if you team is not on one of the TVs. The course is continuing to get better each time I play I am surprised at the fairways and Green conditions. One of my favorites for sure.
Good value
This is a nice layout with very nice greens with hard fairways and tees. There are some patchy areas throughout the course but it is very playable. The layout is interesting and has many blind shots especially from the back tees. Great practice areas and nice club house. Defintely a good challenge
Great Course
It is a fun Links course that played really well despite the hot conditions, the greens were really receptive
Tremendous value
This course was 45 minutes away from my home in Poway and I'd drive back every week if I could. Great course, unbelievable views, elevated tees, perfect fast greens and it cost me $17...plus the $2.49 fee...best course I've played since moving here in August 2014. I play everywhere ...this was hands down my favorite...by a wide margin. I shot 87 with 9 3 putt greens....I'm 58, a decent player, can break 80 sometimes, and am usually really good around the greens. No excuses today, these greens were perfect and fast and I never got the speed down...next time ill always stay beneath the hole...bc the ball won't stop rolling once it gets going downhill...it wasn't unfair, I just didn't give enough respect ... Great course..I'd join this place if it was private.
