Good course you should try
This course probably has the best par 3's, from a challenge and variety standpoint, of any public access course in the valley (my fav's anyway)!
If you haven't played Shadow Hills South before you should give it a shot. The par 3 North course, soon to include a few par 4's from what I hear, is excellent with beautiful desert landscaping and water features!
I have played the South course numerous times and have always enjoyed it. The greens have come back well from the aerification of last month, tees were in great shape but fairways were a little spotty. This is a testament as to what happens when a winter overseeded course has high cart traffic on clay soil. The transition in the summer back to its bermuda grass base is challenging. The fairway of #1 looks the worst but it does get better. I just played preferred lies if my ball ended up on a bare spot in a fairway. That being what it is, the course is still a good track.
Finally, Byron in the golf shop was a wonderful ambassador and host - down-to-earth, gracious and accommodating, and explained directions and food & bev options. Thank you Byron!
Excellent Service
Steve & Phil were great but there had been a shotgun start earlier and it really backed up. I quit the front nine after 5 holes hoping to go to the back nine & start on 10. Checked at the club house. Spoke with Brian & Joseph. They told me the back nine was going to be backed up too. Suggested I just go out & play the first five over & then continue with my round. Now that's service above & beyond. They turned what could have been a frustrating experience into a very pleasant one.
Good experience
A couple of fairways burned out but it's summer so to be expected. Greens, traps & most fairways are good shape.
Staff are great. Both Steve & Phil.very helpful.
Will play this course again.
GREEENS & PUTTING SURFACES ARE GREAT
let's start w/ the bad:
1) some of the fairways & tee boxes are in bad
shape. the fairways are brown and dirt all over.
now the good:
1) staffs are very professional
2) all putting surfaces are in INCREDIBLE shape
well shaved , very clean & very green
3) driving range is awesome
4) and the ICED TOWEL they provide smells good
it's in the blue bucket located between the pro
shop & ice machines. do not forget to take a
couple 'coz it's 100 degrees.
It's a HOT SUMMER... Sooo!
As usual (played here many times over the years) Shadow Hills South course wss "mostly good"...
Staff / Pro shop was awesome, carts were fine, with Ice in the on-cart cooler! Range was in good shape and balls out for warm-up! Tees were good, MOST FAIRWAYS WERE BURNED OUT BROWN & DEAD IN MANY SPOTS...! Bunkers and water hazards were very good (only 1 lake partially drained). GREENS WERE AWESOME AS USUAL! Some of the best in the valley!
FYI - Cold water station at east side of snack shop bldg.! Snack shop was closed at 9:am (NEVER SAW A CART GIRL on a Sunday? On course restrooms were locked (accessible with resident key...?) And with that said I'd go back again soon, always a great fun track!
And I Live Here!
The greens were in good shape for being recently punched, but the fairways were very bad.
Caught them on a bad day
When we booked our tee time we didn't know it was maintenance week. Two fairways are under restoration and the greens punched. The course had several burned out areas.
Beautiful course but wished we had picked a different time.
Good Conditions cor Summer Seasom
Had a great round of golf. Fairways were in goof condtion. Bunkers were soft. Greens could use some work. Good value.
Quality in the Desert
If you are staying in the Indio area there is no need to travel to Palm Springs to get a great course. Conditions are perfect, the layout is terrific and it will be a challenge on any of the tees you choose to play. We played during off season so for the most part had the course to ourselves and finished easily under four hours. Loads of sand and plenty of water so shot selection and proper irons is a must! Would go back here in a heartbeat.
Rude Staff
The proshop staff is extremely rude. I felt they were extra rude to me possibly because I am only 22. Their attitudes would not fly for long at any country club. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to write this review if I did not feel truly offended. The course is nice but it is very expensive. I know it is in the desert but the greens were in fairly poor shape, cracking in some places.
Wonderful experience as first time players
Though we live in the Coachella valley, we hadn't gotten around to playing here until yesterday. I would have to say that this course has the most friendly and welcoming staff of any course we have played here. We played on a warm afternoon and virtually had the course to ourselves. The course itself is reasonably challenging. Landing areas are wide, but greens are usually protected by often challenging, deep bunkers or water. The greens themselves were in very good shape with a lot of contours that seldom allowed easy putts. We thoroughly enjoyed this course and will definitely be back.
Worth the money
Great course, great deal on golfnow. Only beef was that is was cart path only which really slowed the pace of play, barely finished the round. Customers should be alerted to this when booking.
Staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating
Will return when greens are in a little better shape..
Some challenging Pa r 3's and Par 4 s
Everyone in our party enjoyed the course and wii be back.
perfect greens, challenging fairways
Shadow Hills South Course has always been an enjoyable track for me, however at this time of year in the desert heat stresses the course. The greens were as good as one would want. The fairways were over-stressed in some areas and 4 holes on the back nine were being aerated(punched). For the low green fee it was a good value.
Great Course and Friendly Staff
What a great time. Started around noon and had the course to ourselves. Drank lots of water and shot for the shade. ;-)
Stay away
Steer clear of this course for near future, the aerated greens are the least of this courses problems. The fairways are half dead! We hit many shots off bare ground. Tee boxes are virtually grass free! If this wasn't a pre paid time we never would have left the first tee box. The course acknowledged they were have troubles, but didn't think it was that bad. Wrong!
This course has some water, and lots of bunkers.
This is a fun golf course. The holes dog legs both ways, a couple of long 3 pars and some good 4 pars. The only negative is the practice putting green, but a very nice driving range.
Course in great shape
Played early morning golf of 5/30. Danny the starter was a welcoming sort as well as the pro shop staff. According to Danny they have a new maintenance staff that have got the greens and fariways in great shape. He was right! Greens were receptive and smooth. Fairways were very lush in 95% of course with a few tight areas but overall excellent especially considering our drought issues. Course is very challenging from the tips. The Par 3's were were very tight and tough and water comes into play on many holes. Pace of play was excellent as we teed off at 637 and finished before 10:30. They plan to aerate June 5th and 6th so we plan to be back a month or so after. Food was excellent in the resteraunt afterwords. Highly recommend this course.
Friendly staff
We enjoyed our 3 and a half hours round in the afternoon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was beautiful.
Sharow Hills review
We agree with the comments below written on 3/18/2015. The course is not in great shape, we were disappointed with the fairways and the greens.
When we finished our game and leaving the course we agreed not to play it again until it is in better shape.
We were told there was a change in management companies in the last year and this may be the result.
