A very nice course and I have played a lot of courses all over the country.
It was a perfect day for golf in Minnesota and we were the first group out (twosome) we played in just over 3 hours and the sun was shining and the leaves were in their peak for color. We had time to stop and take pictures of the colors and did not hold up anyone behind us.
The course was in fine shape and the greens were not real fast because of the time of the year.
I would be happy to have an opportunity to play here again. The course is challenging and has some carries from the blue tees I played from to get to the fairways, but they are all fair holes. It would have been nice to have a card that showed the shape of the holes, dogleg left or right because I had never played the course before.
Long drive, worth it
Nice course in good fall condition. The greens rolled true and fairways are almost fully recovered from aeration. The staff was friendly and helpful and met me at the car with a cart to load up my clubs. On the front 9 there isn't too much trouble to get into. The back 9 gets a little tighter with tree lined fairways and forced carries. Be prepared to change your thinking and dial in your driver or chose a utility club instead off the box. It is a little too far to play regularly but worth the drive once in a while.
Great course to play, always in great condition
Like course, would play more if not for the 1 1/2hr drive. great fall course to play.
Excellent, but....
Fairways were aerated recently and I'm not sure if that why they were cut so short. They seemed way too short. Although I'm not used to playing such a well-manicured course, I just thought those fairways were clipped right down to nothing. The course, layout, and views are nothing less than fantastic.
A tale of two layourt
The front was wide open, the back tight and undulating. Keep it strating and the excellent conditions make it easier. Had one of my better rounds of the year.
nicest course in the area
even though the course was airated a month or so ago this course is in great shape
Worth the drive
This course condition is immaculate and the greens are rolling. Fantastic layout, but if your playing from the tips be ready to carry the ball at 220 on a lot of holes. My only minor concern is the yardage markers, the have a rock as a 150 marker and the sprinklers. Spent a lot of time looking for yardages since my gps wouldn't get signal.
Worth the drive!
Played this course with a hot deal and a golfnow reward for $40.00 for 2! First group out on a Saturday and the course was great! Perfect greens and fairways with plenty of trouble left or right.Forced carries on some holes so be sure to play the appropriate tee or you will have a long day. They could use 150 yard markers but they do have yardages on all sprinkler heads. If you haven't played it make a trip to Lake City, you wan't be disappointed.
Pristine and worth the drive
The overall quality of the course was in excellent shape. It was scenic and included wildlife. The ruff was thick and fortunately average length. The greens were smooth and rolled true.
Will be back
Everything was in great shape... tees, fairways and greens. Challenging yet fair. Greens can get a little wild, good thing green speed was a little slow. Proshop staff helpful and friendly. 2 hour drive was worth it !
Long drive but the course was beautiful
I put 165 round trip miles on my car but it was a great day and the course and scenery were beautiful.I got a great price so it was worth the drive. Big greens, manicured course just keep the ball in play and you will have a lot of fun. The biggest issue was where the hold was on the green. They use the 3 section system and was told the pin would be in position 3 when actually it was in 2. Took two holes to figure it out and then things were good. This course is not for walkers unless you like football fields and sometimes two football fields between holes. Cement carts paths throughout and the 90 degree rule. If the price was right and I had an entire day devoted to golf I would go again.
Great play..
Beautiful, tight, plenty long and challenging. The course was in excellent condition when i played. Very nice practice area with range, chipping green, putting green and practice bunker. The course was very tight off some tee and added some difficulty but played fair if you put your ego aside and play from the proper tees. I will be back to play again. Didn't have a chance to eat here but the facilities looked very nice. Unfortunately there was not beverage cart when i played, was told all the girls were headed back to school but they had plenty of water jugs on the course. Great place to play.
Great course for the $$$
We used the golfnow app and only had to pay $45! Only down fall was we got paired with another group , but they were really fun! Staff was friendly and helpful. We went two hours early so we could eat and boy was it worth it ! Food was delicious and not over priced a fancy establishment . We will be back
destination course
it was a spontaneous booking on a misty day & I had the course mostly to myself...the Jewel is a Hale Irwin desigh & he must be of the minimalist school... the greens appear to follow the given terrain with earth moved only the build up certain tees...very sublle...drives can be visually intimidating but the landing areas are actually quite generous so don't try to cut corners...fairways are really tight & the shoulders of the big, flattish greens are shaved so you can use a putter from well off the green...the exceptions to this flatness are #9 & 18 greens which have wild undulations...superior condition & well-worth the trip for the right GolfNow price...the staff is very cordial & the restaurant food looks appetizing (though as a cheapskate I didn't indulge).
jewell
course is a excellent test in great shape, only problem is it is located in lake city, but that is why it is such a great value, worth the drive if you have the time appox 1.25 hrs from mpls st paul.
