Victoria Hills Golf Club
About
Victoria Hills Golf Club located in Deland has jaw-dropping beauty. Golfers will appreciate Roland Garl's vigorous bunkering, which oscillates between the expansive and the intricate, depending on the hole. An array of pot bunkers, waste bunkers, native wetlands, water sprays, bunkers integrated within a natural setting, and elevation changes rarely seen on a Florida golf course await you. Garl's course is graceful and feminine
Victoria Hills could easily be called "The State of Florida's Garden of Golf,"- inland settings such as this are virtually unprecedented in this state. Yet while the splendor and natural beauty of the property are notable, this is not simply eye candy and lazy golf. Victoria Hills, as one player put it, "is a blast to play". In any evaluation, it's difficult to imagine how a golfer would not rate a round here as one of their most enjoyable in Florida.

Sad
It’s just sad what has happened to this course, fairways you have to try and find some grass greens slow and dandy.
Good Value
The course has an interesting layout. Lots of bunkers. Very friendly staff.
Not ideal conditions but a good value and a fun course.
Good old days
Found an old score card from 2003 for VH how funny this is. On the front of the score cards it reads-“A top ten you can play in the U.S.”-home course of Stetson University. Registered Audubon Sanctuary.
In 20 years it went from premier to barely playable What happened to the birds?
Great layout however a mold or fungus has impacted the the front 9 greens and some on the back 9. The Bermuda grass on the greens will recover in the spring because they are dominant for the winter. Traps and fairways were satisfactory.
Good course to play
First time playing at this course, started in hole 1 and the fairway looks beautiful, the green not so much, it was a hit or miss the rest of the course. Only a few greens looked great. I think if they can work on the green this could be a wonderful course. Staff were great and very friendly.
Awful conditions, but beautiful course
It’s very sad to see how poorly taken care of this place is, as all other amenities seem to be top-tier. The greens were full of dirt and uneven grass overall very poor conditions. It’s a shame because I really like wanted to like this place.
Could Have Been
Greens were the worse I’ve seen in a lot of years golfing. Starter was awesome; professional and courteous. Pasta night was the best ever!
The worst condition of a course I have ever played in my life.
Tried the course again hoping for improvement from last time I played there. Well, it changed but not for the better. The course was in absolutely terrible condition. Everything from tee to green was horrid. Such a shame. Beautiful layout. Play was comparable to playing on an asphalt parking lot. Stay away!! Tee boxes, little grass. Fairways, less grass and greens even less grass. Would have played winter rules and rolled the ball but there was no grass to be found. On the positive side the staff was very nice and relayed to us that they hear all day long about the poor condition of the course.
Sa
Sad. Good layout. Conditions are OK if you like sand and no grass!!!!
Shocking Conditions
Because of the conditions here I have not played here in awhile. I was shocked that is now in the worst shape it has ever been in. Most of the Greens have huge bare spots and weeds in them.. The Tees are bare and uneven. The fairways have huge sand spots all over, or have or very short grass to hit your second shot, not fun. The areas around the greens is awful and make it near impossible to chip. I have some fond memories of this course and it is very upsetting to what management has let happen to this once nice course. What a shame!
Good bones but needs TLC.
Hot deal was too good to pass up despite negative reviews.
Course was patches of grass and lots of sand on tee decks, fairways and greens.
Greens rolled surprisingly well and those with grass were actually the slowest.
Still presented lots of shot value and decision making throughout the round, and even with a group of slowish golfers in front of us we got through in just over 4 hours.
Worst course conditions ever
Back when it was first opened, this course was pristine and well kept. Greens were in excellent shape. Fairways were lush. Now, it is so bad I can hardly describe it. Every green was dead, and no grass at all around any of the edges. Fairways were full of ruts and washouts, tee boxes were horrible with mostly just dirt. I won’t return here…it isn’t worth playing for free.
Not in Good Shape
Have not played here in a while because of the conditions so I thought I would try again. Hard to believe but it is in worse shape! Mainly the greens are awful, bare spots, a fungus and goose grass popping up. Shame on management for letting this great layout deteriorate so badly. Not much can be done in the winter months to help maybe in the Spring. These greens are now 25 years old and since they were not maintained very well they have reached the end of their life, so they will need to be replaced, not a cheap option but they are at that stage, Too many bare spots in the fairways too.
A perfect day out
We played all 18 rounds despite being rather bad golfers. The course is challenging for us but not impossible to play for the novice and occasional player. Very nice layout with elevation changes and slopes and dogleg setup on a few holes. Its one of my all time favorite courses in central Florida. The previous days we had very heavy rainstorms so the greens were still in recovery mode. Typically the course is in great shape but we are in the season where nothing is growing much. We were very pleased with our afternoon and we made a pit stop in the clubhouse for lunch. A great burger and club sandwich and draft beers helped to keep our strength up, lol. I highly recommend Victoria Hills to everyone.
You are correct the staff hear the complaints all day long. The problem is with a very bad owner who has managed to destroy the course over the last 4 years and could care less.
