Victoria Hills Golf Club

I have played this course several times over the years, I am unaware if it is under new management, but I have never seen the course in this condition. The tea boxes were extremely fair, the same traps, where is firm as a dirt road, the fairways were extremely thin, and the greens wearing a horrible patch conditions.

We hadn't played Victoria Hills for a couple of years, primarly due to the less than stellar online reviews but thought we'd give it another try. Our review is that conditions were inconsistent. While most of the greens were okay, a couple actually had weeds that had been clipped short to attempt to minimize their impact and a few had some brown spots. Unless you are a more than a recreational golfer, neither of those conditions probably would affect the game too much. However, the fairways were a different story. While most did have grassy areas from which a follow up shot wasn't difficult, almost every fairway also had multiple bare or sparse areas, some of which traversed the entire fairway or significant parts of it. If your ball lands in one of those locations, good luck. The tee boxes could be a bit thin but teeing the ball up made that a moot factor. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and, contrary to a couple of prior reviews I'd read, the bunkers I happened to visit weren't full of weeds nor was the sand overly hard packed. Overall, the golfing experience was "okay". We liked the layout/setting but there are courses in better condition in the area for the same cost so I doubt we'll be going back until conditions improve, in particular, the fairways. Course maintenance is about more than mowing.

I reviewed before and gave the course a D because the greens were so bad. Course is now a C because of the overall conditions. Greens are much better but some still have weeds in them that will re-direct a putt! Fairways are cut short and did not seem to get a fall fertilizer boost for the winter. Nice they finally re-sodded the 10th Tee box but have to note this is the only place on the course they have used Sod to fix an area, there are many places that could use some! Maybe management can explain their aversion to using Sod to fix an area. I have to agree with an earlier review about ownership, not sure who owns the course but it it crystal clear they are pinching pennies and not interested in making the course any better than it is now! Such a shame for a course that was once prestigious!

Good layout, good course but definitely looking rough around the edges. Get the sense that overall maintenance is lacking.

Course is good for now. If history holds, it will be good for a few months and then take a downturn. Its a shame that the best layout in the area is so poorly maintained. Rumor has it there have been offers from others to buy the course but have been turned down. Hopefully the owner will see he doesnt have the money nor the ability to restore the course to its potential. He either doesnt have the money or doesnt have the desire to make the improvements needing to be made. Its time to step aside and let someone come in with the money, the desire and the team to get it done.

A challenging course that makes you choose your targets wisely. Unfortunately the lack of fairway grasses, plus sandy bare spots knocks a couple of stars off. Tough to use my higher bounce wedges off dead pan lies. Makes for thin erratic pitches. Still enjoyed the round.

Victoria was once a very nice course but is in a continual decline. Broken limbs and trees from the winds of the hurricane still litter sides of the course. Maintenance is lagging. Challenging layout is about the only remnant of what it once was.

Rack rate is way out of line for quality of course. May check it out again but it will be far down the road.

Pace of play was good because no one was on the course.

It looked to be a nice layout. Plenty of decisions and specific landing zones to hit. Elevation changes are a plus in Florida. But couldn't enjoy myself due to the constant tight lies I found myself in. Thin or non existent grass on many fairways and around greens, and bare spots on some greens. My 14° bounce on my 56° sand wedge was the wrong club for this! Thin shots causing unpredictable distances. Would love this course if it had grass.

The landscaping and sand traps need attention. The traps are very hard with packed sand almost need to be tilled or agitated in some way to loosen the sand up. You have to play sand shots like hard pan can’t just blast the ball out with a splash shot. Greens and fairways are great.
