PGA WEST Greg Norman Course
About
The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.
No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."
"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."
Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.
Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.
What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.
Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.
"Greg Norman wants you to choke," TravelGolf.com West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin said. "The supremely-talented, enthrallingly-entertaining golfer cursed to be forever remembered for his excruciating collapses wants the average hacker to experience just a taste of this misery."

Spectacular Desert Course
The PGA West Greg Norman Course did not disappoint. I would play this again and highly recommend to anyone all golfers.
Immaculate conditions
Top notch all around. Pace of play what 15 minutes ahead of finish. Highly recommend
Fees and Greens
I feel like the greens were in a lot better shape last year when I played, they appeared to be slower. I played for $150 and the two guys I was with played for $210 each. I honestly think it was overpriced at $150. Thanks.
Nice course and in terrific condition.
Very enjoyable course. The fairways and greens were in terrific condition.
Rude, obnoxious & petty
Call me crazy, when I’m spending as much as I am…
“Good Morning”, “thank you”, “how was your round” seems in order. Zero personality when I checked in and I got harassed for chipping some balls after my $200 round. The starter was a pleasure but everyone else I encountered seemed to truly hate being there.
This is a nice members type club in good shape and with very challenging greens. Not a good value compared to other courses in the area.
Great course. Great facilities. Resident comedians are top notch.
This course was in pristine condition. Fairways were perfect. Greens rolled true, not too firm and not too soft. If I were forced to critique something I’d say the bunkers could have been fluffier sand. Don’t take that as me saying they were bad though… maybe that’s how Greg Norman likes ‘em down undah!
The course was tight but forgiving. Hitting from the dirt after an errant shot was actually kind of fun. I had some great recovery shots from there. One of the residents was outside at one point while I was looking for a ball near her yard and she said “Can’t find your ball? My husband always has the same problem.” I chuckled and said, “Give him a break. He’s never going to find his balls if your busting them all the time!”
Teed off around 2:30pm and made it in before the sun set at 7pm. Great pace of play. All in all great course. Will play again.
Good course
Like the course, play was slow, but not a big deal. Like the practice area. Course in good condition, but greens were hard. Highest cost of any of the 6 courses we played… but overall good.
PGA West Norman
One of the better courses in this area for the price. but beware $8 for a Coors Lite. More than a little excessive,
A Fun and Playable Course!
Paid $114 on a GolfNow HotDeal to play Sunday, 3/13 @ 1:48pm—1st day of daylight savings time.
Another awesome day at PGA West. This place really is a golf mecca, and it’s always a pleasure to tee it up at one of these beautifully designed and exquisitely maintained courses.
This was my first round on the Norman Course. Teed off at 1:48pm, paired with a twosome. Pace was great. Plenty of daylight to finish (in just over 4 hours).
Many say this is one of the most playable of the public courses at PGA West, and that may be true. The desert surround leaves room to recover from errant tee shots and approaches. Several times I was able to chip and pitch out of the desert and find the green with a chance to save par.
But there are a lot of bunkers, so expect to find a handful, as I did.
And there are a few challenging Par 3’s. Hole 13 is a tricky one!
With a multitude of tee boxes to play from, golfers of varying skill levels can find a yardage here to suit their game. Do yourself a favor and play this course if you get the chance. You wont regret it!
Marshall would not let us finish 17&18 @ dusk. He was too interested in getting people off course to close up.
