PGA WEST Greg Norman Course
About
The Shark's turned in what's widely regarded as the second-toughest course at PGA WEST - Greg Norman Course in La Quinta.
No small feat considering the developers of the neighboring TPC Stadium ordered Pete Dye to make it, "the hardest damn golf course in the world."
"There's a difference," said Jack Guevera, a golfer who's played both. "You might think you have it easy if you play the Norman after the Stadium .... But probably not."
Here's the difference: Dye tries to kill you at TPC Stadium. Norman only wants to beat you to a pulp.
Not that pummeling does not have its highlights. Norman's 216-yard, par-3 13th is the kind of hole that seizes your attention and lingers in memory after the round.
What little fairway there is curves around toward a man-made lake. It is also tilted down on a sharp angle to the water, giving the golfer the effect of hitting along a ledge.
Each shot is a tap dance here. You could not even get odds in Vegas on your chances of avoiding all of the deep, slanted bunkers that squeeze the mini fairway even tighter.
"Greg Norman wants you to choke," TravelGolf.com West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin said. "The supremely-talented, enthrallingly-entertaining golfer cursed to be forever remembered for his excruciating collapses wants the average hacker to experience just a taste of this misery."

Golfer Reviews
Good layout
Typical desert course with hard pan rough and plush rye grass fairways. Visually attractive with some challenging par 3s over water. Enjoyable round
A Real Gem
The course isn’t as intimidating as I thought it would be from the white tees. However, ball placement is to be thought of. It was a real pleasure to play this course, and, we will return to play again. The scenery is Beautiful. Very well kept and clean everywhere on the grounds. Super efficient staff and a very friendly environment. Will see y’all soon!
Good challenge
Played on a windy day. Good layout and the fairways are pristine. Quite a few bunkers and the fairways are bordered by desert hard pan. Greens were rolling well. Happy to return for another round.
Awesome
Grass was perfect, no bad lies. Bunkers were fair, greens were perfect. Little breeze on the back nine, great views.
Great course but a bit narrow on a few holes
You must hit good golf shots to score on this course. Greens a bit slow but overall a fun day.
Terrible
I’ve played this course in the past, but this time it was absolutely terrible! The greens were so bad it was ridiculous, the fairways had so many areas of wet ground that when I hit a shot it was like hitting after a huge rain storm! I couldn’t believe how much they charge to play this place and the greens were the worst I’ve ever seen! I will not play this course again until it’s in good shape! Don’t waste your money there are plenty of courses around that are in tip top shape!
Fantastic
My new wife and I went to play while on our honeymoon and the staff there was so welcoming! The covid regulations brought up the fact we are newly married and the extremely friendly starter proceeded to send the drink cart to us multiple times for free drinks on the house! The course is narrow but playable. We had a great round!
Hospitality for lus
Wow. My husband and I decided to get one more round in before we headed home. Luckily grabbed an 8:30 tee time and ended up playing with such wonderful members.
What a beautiful place to play golf, the staff was very thoughtful Andy accommodating
We would play there tomorrow I’d we could stay longer.
Home Run
Every aspect of this course is World Class.
Coming off their over-seeding, course was in stellar condition. Will only get better as season moves along.
I really enjoy the name recognition, the lack of nickel & diming ie water, tees added to golf cart.
A winning team!
Brutally Slow Round
Played at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon. Deceptively tight layout with waste areas on either side of most fairways. They are letting the course grow in for the season, so was cart path only. Fairways and greens are currently being cut long, so not much roll on either.
Round was brutally slow with as many golfers as possible stuffed into the course. 4 hr 15 min in, we had only finished 15 holes and darkness settled in. Really ruined a very nice day. Make sure you get a morning tee time to avoid this situation.
Nice Course
The course had just been open 2 days after overseeding. It was in good shape. Greens were a bit slow and bumpy as might be expected after overseeding
Pace of play was on the slow side even for cart path only.
Overall good course and we'll be back
October round
The greens were sanded and in terrible shape for the $100 bucks we paid. It was 105 degrees that day and no coolers on the carts and we only saw cart girl one time on the 3rd hole which made the round miserable. We couldn't wait to be done!
