Woll Golf Course
About
Woll offers a testing and very enjoyable round over a eighteen hole course of outstanding natural beauty. The par 70 parkland course follows the gentle contours of the Ale valley and is surrounded by mature trees. The Woll burn comes into play on a number of holes as does the pond at the aptly named Pond hole. Situated on the natural valley bottom the sub soil is sand and gravel ensuring the course drains very well and is playable all year round. It is kept to the highest standard to make your game enjoyable.
Two holes which will demand your attention are the 6th, The Island, and the 8th, The Thief's Road. The Island is a short par 4 which has a right angle dog leg at about 210 yards and then requires a shot over the Woll burn to the green which is only a wedge away if you put your tee shot in the right place. The Thief's Road also dog legs to the right, but at 571 yards it needs three well struck shots to get home.
The course makes an enjoyable outing for golfers of all capabilities and all are welcome. The terrain is very gentle and there is an abundance of wildlife in the valley.

Scottish Borders tour
This was our first of 3 courses over 3 days staying in the borders and it was superb. The coarse is brilliant and the clubhouse and restauraunt are top notch. I would highley recommend this experience to anyone. It helped that the weather was great as well but a beautiful place to play golf
Really enjoyed the course and had a lovely meal in the stunning club house afterwards
A new find!
We were looking further afield due to Roxburghe being closed and thoroughly enjoyed our round at Woll.
Certainly one of the best courses in the borders, great layout and challenging greens. Friendly service and very welcoming. We’ll certainly play again.
A gem of a course.
This was my 2nd time playing Woll and was a much better experience. The staff were brilliant, facilities were excellent and I finished my round with a local, a lovely chap. So overall a great day out.
Woll golf club
Really enjoyed the course in good condition for time of the year.
Some really nice golf holes course pretty flat.
A very warm welcome from the lady at the golf desk.
Nice clubhouse / bar best cappuccino ever had
Loved it
Cracking little course. Staff in the clubhouse were all really friendly. Course conditions were really good considering the rain they’d had. Some great views and picturesque holes. Lower handicap players might find it a little easy but mid to high handicappers in our group enjoyed it. Not too difficult a walk either. Food in the clubhouse was ok for a quick sandwich. Didn’t try anything from the main menu.
Good Fun Afternoon Walk
Have played this course a few times but was expecting it to be in better condition than it was. It was a bit soggy underfoot in places. The greens were quite slow compared with our usual, they could do with a cut and a roll in my opinion. The bunkers were not great in places with many large pebbles verging on rocks and the base layer of the bunker visible in quite a few.
There are a number of blind tee shots on this course and local knowledge is a definite advantage otherwise you could end up way off course or causing injury. We had a near miss towards us with no shout of "fore".
I would recommend it though as it does provide a test for accurate shot placement. Greens are in general small so accuracy is key.
The clubhouse facilities were good for a small club.
This course has everything
First thing playing the course and thoroughly enjoyed it. Every hole was completely different from the last which kept the round exciting, Beautiful setting in the Scottish Borders, lovely facilities and friendly staff. Stayed for food afterwards which was excellent.
Still Winter Preparation and Price Should Reflect That
I have played this course multiple times but this was £20 per person and the course was not in great condition. There were winter tees at all holes with some holes being significantly shortened as a result. Also two winter greens but there was no attempt to properly prepare the winter greens, as there were tractor tyre marks right across the so-called putting surface. It was easier to use a 7 iron than a putter on these surfaces. The greens that were in play were not being repaired properly by other players with many deep ball marks. (disappointed in my fellow golfers not repairing) The bunkers were all still out of play.
It was fortunately a sunny afternoon and therefore enjoyed the walk but as far as the golf course was concerned I have to say it was disappointing on this occasion. I am sure I will be back later in the year.
Crash bang wollap!
A beautiful course, nicely laid out with some interesting holes, especially the par 3s. We were playing on some winter greens and tees, however the tees were set very far forward on certain holes, which did make some of the par 4s less challenging. Work had gone into draining the course after heavy rain, making the course nicely playable. As visitors, our only criticism was that there was a lack of signage and no map on the score card, which caused some confusion at times. Lovely looking clubhouse (we weren’t able to take advantage due to the winter opening times) and friendly staff and patrons. Well worth a visit; we look forward to returning in the summer.
Lovely Course
First time playing this course. Staff were very welcoming and pleasant. Great clubhouse facilities given where its situated. Course is in very good condition and I really enjoyed the layout. Not too busy for a friday afternoon. We played off the white tees, which are often a good bit back from the yellows, which we enjoyed. The greens has recently been spiked (not cored) but had a good true run and we didn't notice any negative effect. Nice and soft for stopping a ball. Its a good challenge and I played to my handicap playing fairly average. There would definitely be ample opportunity to play under handicap knowing the course a bit better. Game pace of play 3 stars but it's not the clubs fault. We (2 ball) got stuck behind an golf society outing (4 ball) who did apologise at the last hole for not letting us through. No drama. Really enjoyed this course and club, which is very good value for a hot deal offer.
Hidden Gem
This is an excellent course hidden away in the Scottish Borders. It is not a long course but requires accurate play. There are Par 3s which are very short but accuracy is vital. There is some up and down to the geography of the course so a reasonable degree of mobility is required if you are walking.
Course was in excellent condition and was an enjoyable afternoon. I would recommended this course to anyone looking for an alternative to the more expensive borders courses.
Woll GC
Good layout, v friendly staff. Unfortunately the greens had been scarified so might wait until they have been healed before playing again.
I’d recommend it for an outing as suitable for players of all abilities.
Played before and enjoyed it. Partner hadn’t played it so I recommended it to him. A bit slow but no issue as it was a nice warm day. It was in good condition.
Two good mates enjoying a days golf
Weather was good, course was in very good condition. Greens were a challenge ran true, enjoyed our day visiting another course in the Boarders. Not long but a good test of golf a thinking man’s course! Position off the tee is the key to get the best angles into the greens. The only criticism would be the bunkers could do with some more sand. Overall an excellent days golf with good company as always, we will be back again sooner rather than later.
