The Hirsel Golf Club

About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Hirsel Golf Club, founded in 1948, appeals to all levels of golfers. The historic and picturesque golf course was referred to in one magazine as "The Augusta of the North."
Hirsel, a parkland golf course nestled on the Scottish border on the outskirts of Coldstream, offers great natural beauty and breathtaking views over the Cheviot Hills and surrounding countryside. It features 18 very different holes strategically designed to make the most of the undulations of the hills and valleys and the natural hazards presented by a very large number of majestic, mature trees and the winding Leet River.
The golf course measures 6,024 yards. Par is 70 for men and 72 for women, with both par 5s in the last seven holes.

The Hirsel
Always a great game here on this reliably well maintained course
Beautiful Greens
The best course I’ve played in the Scottish Borders!
Fab course
Only thing not to like was my golf. Course was not to blame. Very attractive, interesting and incredibly well kept. Tees, semi rough and fairways really well kept. Greens amazing.
Course is on the shorter side, but very challenging. Several blind holes/shots. A couple of tees were not where you would expect, but very good signposting, with layout on back of card.
Don’t expect great changing rooms/showers, but It is obvious the attention is focused on the course.
Pro and bar staff very welcoming and helpful. Food excellent and very reasonable. Members were friendly too.
Really enjoyable round, thoroughly recommended.
Hirsel is brill.
Such a picturesque lovely course not too busy so enjoyed that and course is in great condition. Only thing I didn't like was a blind par 3.need to play the course again to know how to play that hole!
nicks day out
was blow way with 40 mph winds but dont think ah il not play here.please do its awesome.i cant download pics but l caught course in amazing colour.the locals are simalar to me as im northumbrian only a river decides not. but very friendly and open.
Fantastic course and in great condition best greens that I’ve played on this year.
Mini Augusta in the Borders
Very well maintained course with quick and very true greens.
Hugely enjoyable
A cracking place to play. Not the longest but still plenty of difficulty. Straight hitting is required off the tee, a good short game to score well. Every hole has some interest to it, lots of fun to be had. Condition of the course was excellent.
A friendly welcome in the pro shop and bar. Very good value food and drink pre and post round as well.
We will be back to play again shortly, highly recommended.
Hirsel Golf Club
Played the course Sunday 10 April and it we hit on with the weather. Light breeze and hazy sunshine - which did help the golf.
The course was in good condition, it just hasn't yet recovered from storm Arwen which took a number of trees down.
Green looked good and putted well and it was a nice relaxing game of golf. The course is a mixture of challenging short/dog leg holes and some great par 3's.
we are looking to go back and play it before too long.
Great course
Excellent course would recommend this to anyone.great value for money and friendly starter
Great Parkland course
Enjoyed playing Hirsel for the first time. Winter season had just begun so winter tees were in operation along with fairway mats. There were no winter greens being used on this day. Weather was typical autumnal cool but dry with little wind.
Accepting all of this I thoroughly enjoyed the round. The course was a little heavy after a lot of recent rain but this simply added to the challenge.
There are some great holes on the course and a good variety. Greens were in excellent condition for any time of the year, let alone the beginning of November.
As a mid handicapper I found the course relatively challenging but highly enjoyable.
I hope to return to The Hirsel to play it in all it’s Summer glory next year.
Excellent greens and spongy fairways.
Played course in what was hottest September day in a century in Scottish Borders, course has matured with the trees lining fairways which has made it tighter, but fairways and greens in Excellent condition, and sand in bunkers ,softest I've came across.played many times in past and it's one course I,ll always play again when in the borders, had an excellent game and was a pleasure to play.
Brilliant
The course is in great condition. First tee is a bit daunting with people watching you from the clubhouse balcony… fortunately I smashed it down the middle. There’s quite a few blind tee shots
All good
Course in very good condition. Greens running true. Fantastic value for money paid a lot more money for so called bigger named courses that were far worse than this gem. Will play again soon
Great course
First time playing here whilst away on holiday. Course was in great condition and some interesting holes. Course layout was a little confusing (particularly a short par 3 where another hole would tee off through the green) but there were signs explaining what was happening and how to approach. Greens in excellent condition and an all round enjoyable experience. Would recommend
Little gem
Excellent course, really impressed with the layout etc…will definitely play again.
