The Hirsel Golf Club

About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2024.
Hirsel Golf Club, founded in 1948, appeals to all levels of golfers. The historic and picturesque golf course was referred to in one magazine as "The Augusta of the North."
Hirsel, a parkland golf course nestled on the Scottish border on the outskirts of Coldstream, offers great natural beauty and breathtaking views over the Cheviot Hills and surrounding countryside. It features 18 very different holes strategically designed to make the most of the undulations of the hills and valleys and the natural hazards presented by a very large number of majestic, mature trees and the winding Leet River.
The golf course measures 6,024 yards. Par is 70 for men and 72 for women, with both par 5s in the last seven holes.

Little gem
A great course in superb condition very manicured. Will definitely be back
Fantastically kept course
I came up to Scotland to see family so naturally I booked a round of golf. I wasn’t sure where to go but I’m very glad I played here, got lucky with the weather but I have to say the course conditions were absolutely brilliant. Would definitely recommend.
Wee gem ?
Every course in Scotland is a wee gem but this one really is it’s a must play in your in the Borders. Some challenging par 4s and 3s tricky par 5 to finish.
The Pro and the clubhouse staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again.
Hidden Gem
Yes we had a wonderful mornings golf. Well worth the trip from Belford to play this little gem of a corse the whole course was in fantastic condition. We would definitely visit again .
Hidden Gem
I would call this a Garden Course it’s just lovely with rolling tree lined fairways and manicured greens. Feels tight because of the trees and the river running through but this is a fair and challenging course.
Nice course. Fairly straight forward. Greens and fairways in excellent condition
Little gem
Great course & fantastic greens. This course is great for beginners, with all different lengths of holes. There are some blind holes,so the next time I go I know where to aim.
A good variety of holes
Played during the dry spell but the course has held up well and was in very good condition. The course is very picturesque and each hole posed a different challenge. There are dog legs left and right, uphill approaches, downhill approaches and a difficult par 3 to reach over a river which plays at least 10 yardslonger than the distance. All in all a very enjoyable round.
GREAT DAY OUT
played here with my son what a day what a course and what great condition
the greens where running very fast and true due to the dry spell as where the fairways with some really long rolls and bounces if lucky enough to stay on course.
will be back soon
Excellent Course
Just book it, you will not be disappointed. This is one of the best courses in the Borders. Anyone who plays this course would undoubtably rebook it again. Wonderful greens you wont find any better. Great staff and the clubhouse food is great. Try it and see for yourself....
A "must-play" course
Played here on the Monday after the hottest weekend of the year - as a result there was quite a lot of green watering going on but this did not detract from the enjoyment of playing this wonderful course. Arrived at the course an hour before booked time and Pro advised that I might like to tee-off early as their was a regular group of members due to go out that would hold me up if I started at due time.
Quite a short course but a marvellous variety of holes - certainly a course that needs a couple of rounds to get to know the best way to play it. Many pars and a couple of birdies made it a most enjoyable round and would definitely recommend this as a course to play if visiting the Borders/Northumberland.
One note was that the bar was not available on finishing the round as "the young lady had had to go home" so have not been able to properly comment on the hospitality in the clubhouse.
Perfect
Played 2 ball through tee times app. Course in great nick, rough kept short, greens lightning fast a very forgiving course to play with enough difficulty to keep you on your toes.A very enjoyable round.
Already planning a return trip.
We booked a 4 ball at a great price. No one had heard of it never mind played it before. Safe to say we'll all be back. Great variety and challenge throughout. The course is clearly well looked after by the green staff. Can't recommend this course enough.
Beautiful countryside
The course was superb , greens fast and true and the scenery fantastic. I would tell anyone coming to the borders to play golf that they must play at The Hirsal
Exceptional
What a absolutely stunning course, immaculate condition. Very nice layout. Just a pleasure to play.
Highly recommended
Augusta of the north
I've played the Hirsel quite a few times and have always looked forward to returning. It's not a long course but has some interesting holes where the big club is not always the best option. The staff in the pro shop and clubhouse were very friendly and helpful. The food has always been tasty, well cooked and plentiful although I did not have food this visit. I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who might be thinking about visiting.
