About

Holes 9
Type Semi-Private
Style Parkland
Par 75
Length 6129 yards
Slope 131
Rating 75.8

Golf World has called Gifford Golf Club "the best nine holes in Scotland." The East Lothian village of Gifford, half-an-hour from Edinburgh, features this parkland golf course with a view of the Lammermuir Hills. The course is suitable for new-to-the-game golfers as well as those with low handicaps.

Gifford Golf Club management recommends a maximum hour and 45 minutes to play nine holes - a 2,957-yard, par-35 run out, and 3,093-yard par-36 coming back. The par-5 ninth hole is a 473-yard doozie.

Course trivia: Gifford Golf Club began in 1904, when golfing Lord Tweeddale leased 50 acres of his family estate for a 5 pounds a year - "for the whole right and privilege of playing golf."

Surprisingly fine!

Gifford was advertised as an eighteen hole course but turned out to be a nine with alternate tees. Despite reservations this turned out to be a vey positive experience. Greens were challenging and extremely well maintained. Fairways were in very good condition and the setting was superb.

A bijou clubhouse offered a range of bottled beers and a sound selection of foodstuffs. I can thoroughly recommend Gifford with no qualms. Well doneGiffird staff!

Welcoming

Great course and welcoming people.

Had a great round on some very well kept greens.

Staff at clubhouse were fantastic setting me up in the right direction after a coffee. Now looking into membership.

Wee Gem of a Course

Had a great day from start to finish.

Fairways and green were in excellent condition considering we have recently had a very dry spell.

Will be back for more.

Cracking little course

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this little beauty. Probably a course not for scratch golfers, but I found it a joy to play. The course in general was in excellent condition, considering the dry whether we have been having and the greens were in cracking condition and very true. From the moment I arrived and was given a warm welcome by staff members Dorothy and Andy I was made to feel at home by them and playing members on the course. A really enjoyable afternoon

What a lovely hidden gem!!

Fantastic 9 holes in great shape although a bit of rain is needed, some Greens being watered. Some tricky holes with the water hazard running through the course. Very friendly green staff and cafe ladies. Excellent value for money. Nice refreshments of soup/panni & a cuppa afterwards Highly recommend. Thank you.

Nice little course

This is a 9 hole course, but you go round twice with different tees on the second 9.

It’s a nicely laid out parkland course with some challenging holes.

Staff were very friendly and the breakfast rolls were excellent.

Beautiful course and friendly clubhouse

This is a lovely 9/18 hole course at the foot of the Lammermuirs just on the edge of Gifford

It’s well maintained with varied holes, one of which (8th) could be in Augusta!

Small clubhouse with a variety of good and drink staffed by friendly people. Give it a try

Great wee course

First visit to Gifford GC, certainly won't be the last. Course was in fantastic condition , particularly given it was only mid-April. Really nice layout with small burn meandering through the course and fast tricky greens. Three holes had different tees on the back nine. Everybody there was really friendly and welcoming. Simple small clubhouse but all that was needed. Pace of play wasn't great, not sure if that was down to people filtering in for second nine but as we visited on a nice sunny day it wasn't a problem. Thoroughly recommend

Greens amazing

Could not believe how good the condition of the course was considering how much rain we've had recently.

Condition of greens was excellent for this time of year.

Better than most greens in the summer.
