Dalmahoy Hotel, Golf & Country Club - East Course
About
The Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club bills itself as "the only golf resort in the local Edinburgh area." It makes a good base to reach other Scottish golf destinations. Dalmahoy is a top draw, designed by James Braid in 1927. It hosts upper-tier golf events and has featured names such as Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, and Colin Montgomerie. Two golf courses sit on 1,000 acres of some of Scotland's most magnificent landscape, encircled by woods, waters and the Pentland Hills. Each offers unique tests for all levels of golfers.
Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course - site of the 2006-08 Scottish Senior Open and several Scottish PGA Championships - offers 18 holes and 7,475 yards of par-72 golf. A 2005 redevelopment of the course ran about $2 million. On Ye Go from the very first hole, as it is called, a monster of a starter, a par-5 that measures 532 yards from the blue tees.
Battle the Devil's Table, The Ha Ha and the marathon 605-yard par-5 Braids Brawest, and you'll reach Solheim, the final hole on the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course, where you'll need to finish the day by clearing 460 yards in four strokes.

Dalmahoy delivers again
Play Dalmahoy east course 2 or 3 times a year. Always enjoy the challenge of this demanding course. Course always in great condition and staff always friendly. Always a great day out.
Poor
Arrived at starter box to check in only to be told you need to go to pro shop for the check in. Pro shop staff were dull and unpleasant. Course was shabby tee's were uneven scruffy, greens were awful condition for the prime time of the year. Different pace, scuffed, track lines and pin positions in horrible bumpy parts of the green! Overall poor from the moment we arrived been a few years since I last played and the place hasn't evolved or improved in the slightest. Myself and my group travel and play many courses and doubt we will be back.
Dalmahoy east
Dalmahoy didn’t have the booking on system which caused a few problems but staff sorted it out. Great course and despite the dry weather it was in great condition
Great challange
Played this wonderful course before, the changes on holes 13/14 are a good addition and I would recommend anyone who has not played here to put this on their bucket list.
Wonderful and long.
Wonderful and long! A bit too long for men with handicaps over 18.
Disappointing Dalmahoy
Played this course many times in the past. The location is superb but where it really matters -on the course- Dalmahoy is failing. We all understand weather conditions have made it difficult , but there is no excuse for elementart errors. For example, the bunkers were not raked and many full of stones. edging to define the sand traps was non existent. This is all basic stuff and matters must be addressed very quickly or this venue will drop down the golf quality rankings. There is nothing more upsetting to a golfer to see such a great test of golf be in such poor condition.
fantastic course, sham about the greens
loved the layout of the course, did not find it that hard after playing the Dukes course. What did let the course down was the moss on the greens and a lot of tufts. I know the weather has been bad, but I would not join with greens that poor.
I will play again in June to see if it gets any better.
scenic course
Great course that provides a real test.
Peaceful setting with a variety of testing holes.
Excellent Golf Experience Throughout
I found the process from booking online to arrival, lunch then game of golf on the East Course was handled professionally, efficiently and friendly throughout. The course was in excellent condition and the setting was amazing. A great day of golf was had and I would have no hesitation in recommending playing at Dalmahoy to others.
Excellent course
The east course is the longer of the two courses at Dalmahoy. As an 18 handicapper it can be a challenge but although long most fairways are fairly wide which helps avoid trouble of the tee!
Recommended especially on a sunny day.
A great test
Played both courses over a weekend whilst staying at the hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a trip here to anyone, the hotel was fantastic with very friendly and helpful staff. The courses while different were both thoroughly enjoyable and in brilliant condition despite some inclement weather. I will return.
A great test
Had a fantastic weekend staying at the hotel and playing both courses. Great setting and a fantastic test of golf. Would not hesitate to return, thoroughly enjoyed the golf and the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful.
Golf with friends
Recently played both courses and had a night in the hotel as part of a bromance package. Both courses were excellent despite it being wet, the staff were very friendly and helpful and I would not hesitate to reccomend the course and the hotel to my friends and family
Amazing Place
Played the championship course the day after the sister course. Despite the wet conditions the course was in fantastic condition and provided a fair challenge for all levels of golfers in the group. Great staff and wonderful amenities. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both the course and the hotel.
excellent track
We had a beautiful bright but windy day for golf in late October. Course was in great condition for the time of year - a little muddy between some of the greens and tees but fairways were immaculate.
Great value - nice people and good speed of play on the front nine until we caught up with a four ball and were unable to play through.
Highly Recommended
I was up visiting a friend for the weekend and we played the East Course on the Saturday. In near perfect weather and with the exceptional course condition, there isn't much excuse for the quality of golf I displayed. The course was immaculate!
Scoring opportunities were everywhere (not many were taken) whilst still offering a good test of golf. A good mix of longer, tough holes with some short par fours that temp the driver at the green! All in all, very fun to play.
On top of that, the staff are all very welcoming and very happy to help. We stayed and had food after the golf which was very good indeed!
Definitely worth a visit!
I played this immaculate parkland course a number of years ago in the winter and as with most inland courses at that time of year it didn't blow me away. However having played it again last week I really couldn't recommend this track enough both for value and experience. Whilst I'm used to playing links golf this place really blew me away with it's fantastic tree lined holes and true running greens. Pace of play was good and the walk up 18 is about as dramatic as any.
Will play again.
Great course, well worth a repeat visit.
We played Dalmahoy East (Championship) course on a sunny Tuesday evening in August. Right from the beginning we were welcomed by friendly knowledgable staff who were more than happy to help. The course was in superb condition and was a tough but fair challenge with room off the tee for me to customary spray it about a bit.
Plenty of opportunities for birdies and I thoroughly enjoyed the two new holes (13th &14th) which are a real test off the tee.
The highlight of the round was the 18th with a 3 iron down the middle followed by a 3 wood to 4 feet and a putt sunk for eagle all witnessed by the local professional. I was promised a plaque on the 18th fairway for next time I visit he was so impressed with the 2nd shot! As for the other 17 holes, well enough said.
If you are visiting the area or within driving distance for a day visit, I would thoroughly recommend a trip to Dalmahoy. Both courses provide an enjoyable challenge and the whole experience from arrival to departure is 5 star. Thank you.
A must play
One to put in your diary
The course is in excellent condition and the greens are running true and fast
Credit to the green staff me and my colleagues enjoyed it and are planning a return trip very soon
Great Course Greens Less So
Played midweek at the end of May . Course quiet and allowed to go ahead of our scheduled time. Staff at reception desk and in starter area very good and could not have been more helpful. Overall course condition very good Fairways were perfect and graded rough presented a fair challenge. Greens very disappointing for the time of year which put a slight dampener on an otherwise perfect day. Even off the yellow tees this is a long course and anyone over low single figures is likely to be hitting lots of fairway woods and hybrids to a number of the par 4's. Hitting areas quite wide though so should not present many problems in terms of looking for lost balls definitely worth a visit.
