The Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club bills itself as "the only golf resort in the local Edinburgh area." It makes a good base to reach other Scottish golf destinations. Dalmahoy is a top draw, designed by James Braid in 1927. It hosts upper-tier golf events and has featured names such as Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, and Colin Montgomerie. Two golf courses sit on 1,000 acres of some of Scotland's most magnificent landscape, encircled by woods, waters and the Pentland Hills. Each offers unique tests for all levels of golfers.

Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course - site of the 2006-08 Scottish Senior Open and several Scottish PGA Championships - offers 18 holes and 7,475 yards of par-72 golf. A 2005 redevelopment of the course ran about $2 million. On Ye Go from the very first hole, as it is called, a monster of a starter, a par-5 that measures 532 yards from the blue tees.

Battle the Devil's Table, The Ha Ha and the marathon 605-yard par-5 Braids Brawest, and you'll reach Solheim, the final hole on the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course, where you'll need to finish the day by clearing 460 yards in four strokes.

Great Course Greens Less So

Played midweek at the end of May . Course quiet and allowed to go ahead of our scheduled time. Staff at reception desk and in starter area very good and could not have been more helpful. Overall course condition very good Fairways were perfect and graded rough presented a fair challenge. Greens very disappointing for the time of year which put a slight dampener on an otherwise perfect day. Even off the yellow tees this is a long course and anyone over low single figures is likely to be hitting lots of fairway woods and hybrids to a number of the par 4's. Hitting areas quite wide though so should not present many problems in terms of looking for lost balls definitely worth a visit.

Tee 2 green is very good, but....

The greens were a mess, covered in sand and impossible to get any kind of putting game going.

Have played both courses many times and love them both but the round was spoiled by the state of the greens. 3 very grumpy old men, well 2 old men and myself.

First Time Playing

Dalmahoy - East Course

Played this course for the first time today, for this time of the year the course was in decent condition, obviously as it was a week day it was quiet with a fast pace of play. However, I can imagine in the height of summer this to be very busy due to the country club/hotel being located on the course. I wouldn't return in a hurry but certainly wouldn't turn a game down if offered.

Nice golf course

Well maintained golf course, better from two of Dalmahoy. Nice sauna afterwards makes it playable also when it is cold out there.
