Knightswood Review
With being a new player of Golf I have found this course perfect for me as I have a few medical issues. It is relatively flat and within a short drive from my home. I first played here in the winter season and found it quite difficult because of the winter conditions, wet and boggy. Since the spring the course is unrecognisable to what it was then. The green keepers have done an amazing job in getting both greens and fairways in fantastic condition. My friends and I have found then and the staff in the club house only too happy to help. Once membership is available I will be applying for Knightswood. Thanks Steve
Knightswood
Cracking wee course tucked up in the middle of Knightswood. I’m just a beginner only been playing for a month or so and I found the fairways are very generous and the staff keep it in excellent condition.
Royal Knightswood
Played here a few times over the years and have to say this was the best I've ever seen it look. Greens were excellent too which wasn't something I was expecting .
Nightswoooood
Autumn has arrived, light wind hint of moisture in the air, ground a little soft but not muddy. Trees shedding there leaves makes for an interesting round on a 9 hole oasis in the middle of the city. Greens were amazing for this time of year 'hats off'. Well enjoyed little walk ,shall return ,very reasonable.
Not a hard course but all the holes have their own challenges
I first played this course about 40years ago,I have just started playing again and condition of course now is 100% better now.And ALL the staff are brilliant
Still a Gem
Despite its nine holes, this wee gem of a golf course provides ironically, sufficient ease and or difficulty, in order to satisfy the requirements of most golfers.
The course is lush and the tree lined fairways keep you honest with full adherence to the local rules. The course lacks distance indicators and refuse bins but that would probably require 24 hour security to be maintained.
It’s unfortunate that the greens themselves can only be described as ‘permanently winterised’ due to their dilapidated condition.
Yes, this is a negative but one which can’t only be attributed to lack of investment. I have been playing this course periodically for approximately the past sixty years.
When I was a novice being introduced to golf at this course by my uncle John McAllister, I was instructed in the rudiments of the game, which firstly stated the imperative of repairing any damage to the course that you may have caused. Way back then, the greens, including the then large practice green, were the envy of much superior golf courses and not only by similar public courses. The demise in the condition of this particular course can be attributed to the withdrawal of Marshal Supervision, in the form of Green keepers and course maintenance personnel but perhaps more relevant, the demise in golf etiquette, particularly in the damage repair department.
Regardless of the deficiencies that do exist with Knightswood Golf course, I am sure that the overall challenge will serve to hone your skills in the game and provide a cost effective golf challenge with the associated health benefits of exercise in the fresh air.
