A lot of work required
- grass length inconsistent on fairways and greens.
- some tees for other holes are positioned between another tee and hole, which just slows everything down, layout needs improved.
We had a group behind us tee off when we were still in their landing zone and two balls landing within 10 yards, not something the club is necessarily at fault for but again the layout meant multiple groups were bunched up behind each other towards the end.
The Clue is in the name!
Had a good time playing Windyhill – it’s a proper challenge! The fairways were in good nick and the greens were nice and fast, though a few could do with a bit of extra care here and there.
It’s definitely not a course you can take lightly – it’s well named! The hills make things tricky, especially when your ball catches a slope and rolls off where you weren’t planning. You really need to be accurate off the tee or you’ll find yourself chasing it downhill more than you’d like.
One wee gripe was the signage – or lack of it. The clubhouse looks like it’s mid-renovation, and we had a bit of a mission trying to find a few of the next tee boxes. The 4th was a good example – turns out it’s actually behind the car park, but we only found it after asking a helpful member.
All that said, it was a pleasant round overall. Good challenge, nice views, and friendly folk around the place. Would go back.
Good course
Bit long and hilly for me
But would recommend a round
Views over Glasgow are great
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great Course and Friendly Staff
The staff was very friendly. The course was in a good condition, well kept with a couple greens needing some repair. They allowed us to play more holes when we were done with the 18 we paid for which we really appreciated.
Lovely course
First time playing at Windyhill and it did not disappoint. Beautiful Course that's very well maintained. They have had a quite a few trees down due to high wind and are in the process of having it all cleared but it has caused there to be quite a lot of twigs and branches around the roughs in the areas that this has happened but other than having to kick a few out the way it wasn't really a problem. Couldn't get in to the club house as they are renovating but the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Definitely would recommend
Needs warning on winter greens
Course in good Nick but surprised by lack of warning on GolfNow that course on winter greens as i know this is an option. Pro shop closed. Not bad but wouldn’t have bothered if had known on winter greens
Very worth exploring
Great design, clear Braid design traits over the mountainous land with some spectacular vistas. Well presented if a little slow with wet greens, and some winter tee grounds. Fairways in good shape. Didnt get the last having to be a ~240yd Par 3!
Course was in great condition. Friendly staff at the club house. Would definitely recommend and play again.
Windyhill golf club
Excellent course with a great layout and great verity of holes. Whole course was immaculate and it’s pretty forgiving for the most part. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be back!
Great course with friendly members
Course was excellent a couple of greens had been burnt by a leaky mower, but recovering well otherwise it would be 5 stars all around. Hilly but that's in the name. Recommended.
Wet and windy
Well name suits it’s a big hill with wind last 7 holes battered with rain shot 37 front 9 defo a course is amateur golfers can score well on
Brilliant course and brilliant value
Course was in superb condition for this time of year and considering the recent weather we’ve had.
Great value for money
First time playing this course cracking course the weather today made it challenging can see why it's called windyhill but could imagine this course been brilliant on a nicer day some tough holes but also alot of forgiving holes too
Nostalgic return
Having been a member for 10 years from aged 10-20 it was a nostalgic return to play our home course with my brother. Having been away from the area for 30 years, we had no idea what to expect. Apart from a lot more mature trees than we could remember the course remained largely the same as it was 30 years ago. There’s a great practice area next to the first tee, which was well maintained and a proved useful to get a decent warm up prior to teeing off. Although not in pristine condition with largely slow greens the course was still a pleasure to play. Windyhill is far from easy and we got off light with the weather conditions. When the wind is blowing the difficulty level increases significantly. That being said, it’s still a stiff test with shot selection key, particularly on holes with multiple gradients with sloping fairways. It was well worth the visit and a course I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area or just haven’t played it before. The views across Glasgow add to the experience. Definitely one to add to your list.
