The crazy 2nd hole
It’s a great course and so glad it hasn’t closed down. There are some really challenging holes. As a visitor for the first time the layout was really hard to negotiate and there was no map on the scorecard. If ever there was a course that needed a map this is it.
The 2nd hole is the strangest hole I’ve ever played and from the tee we had no idea where we were meant hitting the ball towards. We guessed it must be on the other side of this huge grassy mound. I drove to the bottom of it and then climbed up it to see where the green was. I then hit a ball over it - a hope for the best shot really… and my son had hit on top of it. We climbed over and down the other side on a very slippy steel muddy path. It was treacherous and we are both pretty fit. I couldn’t see my ball anywhere which was strange because I expected to be on the green. It turned out my ball was in the hole and I scored an eagle 2!! My first ever . But despite this I don’t think I don’t the hole works. It’s too eccentric and becomes almost crazy golf. I think it would be better have a green in front of the mound ( from the tee) to create a par 3 . Other than that I loved the course.
Great public course.
Have not played Dalmuir for quite a few years and had forgotten just how good a course it is. Greens and fairways in very good condition. It has some unusual holes and is well worth a visit.
Excellent public authority run course
Visited on probably the warmest day of the year so far. The climbs in the back 9 were incredible. And very tiring. Course in great condition for a public authority run course, well worth a visit and great value. Pace of play was very slow, but course extremely busy due to it being a Monday holiday.
Pace of play & time spacing
I think there should be a longer time between tee times as 10 mins isn’t long enough I caught up to the 1100 tee time at the 2nd I teed off at 1120
Think it should be a 15 gap between tee times
Dalmuir municipal GC
Course was I fantastic condition, fairways and greens apart from 13th which was still a winter green were excellent, will definitely play this course again.
Well worth a try
Some greens still a bit rough but overall, good. Worth a visit to check out some of the holes which are a sight to behold in terms of layout and variety of challenges.
If this course shuts, it will be a shame. Definitely needs some investment from West Dunbartonshire Council / others on facilities.
Dalmuir GC
Really enjoyed playing the course,as I always do, considering it was heavy rain during the morning.
Great value for money. Course held up well.
Mary in the pro shop couldn't be more helpful.
It would be a tragedy if this course closes.
A note to West dumbartonshire council....you must keep this open !!
Bring your hiking boots.
Staff were friendly so started off good. We were given a scorecard with no course layout, making navigating very difficult. There is a lack of signage meaning if it’s your first time you’re going to struggle to navigate in a timely manner, layout isn’t self explanatory, you have to cross a few fairways to get to your next hole on a number of occasions.
Course was in decent enough condition for a municipal course at £18/round. Lots of leaves at this time of year which meant if you didn’t hit the fairway you were losing your ball every time. It was apparent the fairways had been cleared of leaves recently but the wind had obviously blown more into a couple of the greens and fairways and the rough just off the fairways had obviously not been cleared.
Some of the holes are borderline ridiculous. If you’re not fit you’re going to struggle on the back 9, the 13th being the steepest. My trolley was above my head while I was pushing it. A petrol powered golf cart wouldn’t make it to the green of the 18th.
I won’t be playing here again, it’s too much effort for a 5000 yard course. I’ve played a number of 7000 yarders that didn’t involve as much hill walking.
The back 9 is very hilly & with some tricky holes but a very enjoyable course to play. Great value for the money.
Will definitely play there again.
Great value
Great course , great variety of holes , and great value.
There are some wonderful picturesque holes and the back nine is more challenging.
Blind greens , a dogleg par three , and killer uphill par fours.
My favourite holes are 12 & 14 par threes over a 70 foot ravine.
Staff are excellent.
Value for money
As public courses go this one is pretty good. Not the longest or most challenging but great value for money and enjoyed it each time I've played.
Bring Oxygen
Lovely course but the back 9 in particular were a physical challenge with “heart attack hill” on the 13th and a couple of others testing your fitness. Missed two holes 14/15 somehow - poor signage?? Or maybe we were just too busy catching our breath I’m not sure. Some great condition large greens and a cracker par 3 over the burn from high up too! All in all a great value course - just mind bring the oxygen!!
