The tricky 14th Photo submitted by u314161540661 on 06/20/2021
Tricky track
First time played but would defo return. Friendly welcome and all green staff I met along the way were working to present the course in tip top condition. Lots of definition and greens fab. Tricky course with a variety of holes and few holes close or crossing over but well sign posted other than coming off 15 no sign to point you thro trees to 16th tee but not a biggy.
Disappointing
I regularly play at Kirkintilloch which is immaculate. This course is 0.5m away and expected this course to be similar.
Played the course yesterday for the first time. The course itself is very bland and a bit of a slog. The course is very hilly which leads to a lot of blind shots. There were a few nice holes, but overall it's up and down, up and down.
The fairways were in excellent condition. Shame about the rest. Course wasn't well maintained. The greens were awful. I was taken aback at how bad they actually were. Bald patches, sand everywhere, ball didn't run true at all. Was shocked at how bad they were. Really killed my enthusiasm.
Play was extremely slow, but that was understandable given it was a warm, dry day.
Didn't use the facilities, so can't comment on that.
Maybe I was unfortunate and caught the course on a bad day, but it seemed like I was on a public course rather than a private members club.
Won't be back.
Nice course.
Course looking great. Fairways and greens well looked after. A few tricky holes and some great fairways for creaming your T shot 250.
Just need a sign pointing you from 15th to 16th.
Definitely be back.
James Braid Course
Really enjoyed playing Hayston lots of variety in the hole’s especially on a compact site. Par threes are real classics making the right club selection in key here. Braids hogs back is in play also. Greens were a good pace when we played. Overall a very good experience.
Great find!
Wonderful course! Great variety of holes and superbly maintained. Staff and members were very welcoming.
Great course
Very good condition. Greens very well kept and playing well. Some good fun par 3s. Staff and members very friendly and welcoming.
A great course in wonderful condition
I’ve played here a number of times over the years & have never seen it in better condition, a joy to play
Outstanding condition.
One of the best kept coursed I've ever played. Greens were in perfect condition. Great value for money.
Great course to play
I loved all of it. .
I played in a visiting group and was made to feel welcome from everyone I met; from the young guy in the pro shop, the lady behind the bar , the chef who sorted us all out with our pre round nosh and the lady who looked after us when we'd finished in the clubhouse.
The course was typical Braid - some short holes which were well protected, some longer ones, most greens sitting higher than the fairway, quirky par 3s with everything in great condition so well done to the greenkeeper and his team.
I thoroughly recommend Hayston and there are great green fee deals to be had. £25 mid morning is an absolute steal compared to some courses nearby charging over £50.
Gets 9/10 from me......and many of the lads in the party I played with.
Great course overall
Very nice course. Tees, greens and fairways all in great condition. Staff member in starter office was very friendly and decent practice facilities available. Enjoyed layout of course only point of confusion was the double green which took us by surprise when playing approach shots to then notice others on green. Only poor note was a player encountered while we were waiting to tee off on 17th, who was on 17th fairway (must have sliced tee shot from adjacent hole). Guy played 2 shots without offering us priority then failed to even acknowledge us. Unsure if he was a member but left a sour taste in the mouth.
Beautiful greens
Couldn’t be happier. From the welcome by the club pro, the practise greens, overall condition, for what we paid- you couldn’t ask for better. Best greens I’ve played on outside championship courses such as dundonald, gullane, gleneagles etc. would recommend.
Friendly welcome, lovely course.
I had a very friendly welcome from the members and the staff alike. I was really relaxed going to the tee after being greeted like that, which is not always the case as a visitor at a private club. The course was very well-kept, with the kind of design that leaves you thinking how you would play the hole smarter/better next time. Some forgivingly wide fairways from the tee on par 4's and 5's are decieving, as subsequent approaches can be considerably trickier depending the side you play to and the fairway bunker placement. Some holes play a lot longer than the yardage suggests with elevated greens and deepish bunkers to carry. The par 3's were varied but offered up chances too (to a better player anyway !) A mix of pine and coniferous trees set in rural countryside with a traditional old mansion as a clubhouse. And no delusions of grandeur. Sociable place. I had a great day, my only regret being not having time to stop in the clubhouse for a pint after.
Good condition
Course in good condition even with the heavy downpour
Hayston
Nice day for golf and this is a forgiving course if you hit a wayward drive. Unfortunately the greens were very ‘bobbly’ and wouldn’t run true. We abandoned our game after nine.
Excellent course but watch your back
Course was in very good condition even after the heavy rain the day before. Greens excellent, fairways very good. Prices for tea coffee rolls very good, staff very friendly.
The only downside was the shouts of "fore" we heard constantly! The fairways are very close to each other with little protection. I've never played a course and heard so many shouts of "fore". Give it a good though maybe when we played there were a higher percentage of wayward golfers.
