Lyle Design, devilishly difficult
The course is in excellent condition considering how much rain there has been. Some testing par 3’s amongst longer holes giving a good test of golf
Overall Impressions of Clober Golf Course
I was pleasantly surprised by the course and enjoyed the round. Yes, the course is quite short and there a significant number of par 3’s. However, these are a significant challenge and quite interesting. This said, the green staff were very much to the fore and restricted our progress. In addition, the greens were heavily sanded which spoiled the experience. This said, it was great value and would give it another try in the future.
Clober
Everything was good apart from some of the green to tee signs could be better
Greenkeeper
After a lot of heavy rain the greenkeeper kept us up to date with the condition of the course.
A true gentleman. Well done sir.
Clober gold club
Excellent course great condition considering the amount of rain great layout will definitely be back
Brilliant value for money. Although only a par 66 didn’t feel like a short course. Some brilliantly laid out and challenging par 3s of all length, drivable as well as tougher par 4s and 2 monster par 5s the course had everything and was in brilliant condition.
Tricky holes
Some simple looking holes but with layout and features, makes for an interesting round. Facilities great and staff really friendly.
Short but tricky
2nd time playing. Staff member at Pro shop was very helpful and friendly. Fairways and greens in a great condition for the time of the year. Some short holes but also some tricky holes so makes for an enjoyable round.
No fairway or Tees unless mats used.
Normally a beautiful course but due to weather and I understand mats out for Tees and no play on the fairway unless you bring a mat, greens lightly sanded and had been spiked but still tan well.
Don’t mind this but would have liked notice in GolfNow
As I said normally an great course with different lengths and challenges of fairways
Lovely course
Interesting course and very well kept. Brilliant greens. Some excellent par 3's. A couple of intense hills but other than that a lovely course. Really pretty features throughout the course too. Really friendly members and staff too. 10/10
You need to be fit!
Interesting round at Clober (Sandy Lyle's old course in Glasgow when he was a boy apparently).
But do not be fooled by the yardage on the card. - only 4824 yards from the "yellow tees"
The course was in pretty good condition with some pleasant parkland holes (and lots of long par threes). However the large hill at the heart of the course was an eye opener and a lung burster. There were a good few blind holes (particularly the 6th and an almost inevitable lost ball - if its your first time playing the course) and the monster climb at the seventh following your tee shot - the second shot requires a blind long and treacherous approach to a hole measuring 345 on the card. I hit a powerful drive and a raking, drawing 2 hybrid pin high (playing off what I considered to be a decent 9 handicap!!)
Thereafter there are a few fairly good holes - but the "hill" - which is very steep - returns at the 14th rapidly followed by surely the daftest "blind" par 3 in world golf at 15 - with a fairway running parallel to the hole before a plunge down the now ubiquitous "hill" - covered in lush thick grass on the bank. Again - playing this hole for the first time is well nigh impossible. I hit a 9 iron to the top of the peak so that I could figure out where the hole is most likely to be!!
A course not for the faint hearted - either physically or metaphorically!
Cracking wee course.
Turned up at 09.30 for a 10.15 tee time. 3 x4 balls and a 2 ball out before us.Cammy, in the pro shop, said that if we wanted to go early we could go off the 10th. Course was in great nick, especially the greens. Only downside....climbing the hills at 7 and 14.
