Great Value and Good Course
Course was in pretty good shape with a few rougher spots. Greens ran nicely- not too fast and not too bumpy, so you could be aggressive and make some putts. Fairways were good for the most part. Teed off at 12:15 and finish with about a hole to spare at 4:40. Starter was very nice and got me out 30 minutes early.
They Should Close it during heavy maintenance
The entire golf course -- fairways, greens, fringes, traps -- was under heavy maintenance.
Unplayable in that condition. Either stagger maintenance, or close the course for a week or two. Guaranteed nobody had any fun during the week when I played.
Ground Under Repair
The greens were unputtable. The fringes were muddy and overgrown. The entire course was under extreme maintenance and should have been shut down.
No indication of these conditions was provided when I made the reservation. I never would have come out given the conditions.
Worst Long Beach Course
Big Rec used to be one of my favorite courses but not anymore! The last few times playing there it has gotten progressively worse. Granted the greens had just been punched so can’t hold that against them but overall conditions are bad. Trash everywhere on course, a lot of bare spots in fairways and they are water excessively causing muddy conditions. ElDorado and Skylinks remain in good shape but for some reason Big Rec needs a lot of help!
Course under upgrades
Greens heavily punched and sanded. Areas around green punched with significant tractor marks. Many muddy sections with deep tire ruts around greens making it impossible to play competitively. It will be a month or more before the course is in decent shape.
Late in the season, course conditions show
I've played here about ten times this year and each time the conditions worsen. Pro shop is cool, starter is really hit or miss (depends on who's there). Bathrooms on the course are usually nasty.
Slow play
Might want to change tee times and spread out time between to improve play time. Too much waiting for group in front. They also were waiting so it wasn’t that they played slow.
Great until the locals…..
Really fun round with some friends. Unfortunately on the last few holes, we got heckled by some shirtless, barefoot golfers While we were swinging.
