Enjoyable round
There were few greens needed some work and same for some bunkers, too. Pace was a little slow but manageable.
Good Day of Golf
I enjoy playing here often. Pace of play can be slow. The starter doesnt seem to understand or appreciate the need for the tee time intervals. He will arbitrarily get people to tee off just after the fairway is clear. This leads to backups on the ensuing holes. Many Times I have shown up early to get some practice in only to be rushed onto the teebox ten to twenty minutes before our scheduled teetime. This results in having to wait on the next holes. JUST PLAIN STUPID!!!
Greens are almost fully recovered
Ball marks do more damage as the greens are still in recovery. Pace depends on more so on the people in front of you as opposed to the course layout.
Healing nicely
Course always runs early on tee times. Greens are healing nicely from punching on 10/2. No temp greens as previously reviewed course is playing standard.
Great day at the park!
This course is well manitained, is well organized, and is a fun place to play. Its fairly wide open fairways with target greens makes it a good challenge. Recreation Park has Several practice areas for chipping and putting and a range. Staff is super friendly too!
You should know
Greens are punched and sanded as of 10/2, several temp greens on course. There is NO warning on GolfNow so I figured you should at least know this before you pay $70 for a partial experience, as the temp greens in particular are a joke
Rec Park running nicely on time and on pace!
Arriving at Rec Park 20-25 minutes early, it immediately looked like a crazy Friday. That was OK though, as my mental state was "even if the round is 5.5 hours, I'll still finish before dark. There were many players already waiting with carts on bags, a full driving range, and scores of walkers. I walked in to a pro shop with NO LINE. I was helped by a SUPER PLEASANT and EFFICIENT starter/cashier. Who took all of 15 seconds to find my Golfnow reservation, let me know I was prepaid, handed my a cart key and receipt. Then, TO MY BIGGEST SURPRISE, we started 3 minutes before our 12:10 TEE TIME! Then, to an even more pleasant surprise, pace of play was so fantastic that we finished in 4 hours 10 minutes!!!! Great day at Rec Park! Greens were medium fast, fairways and rough were green all around with good lies. Sand was decent in most all bunkers (only visited 1). Cleared all my stereotypes from past experiences there.
Vortex
When I arrived this course was in excellent condition, unfortunately there was something going on which caused the Earth to move while I was swinging my clubs, causing me to take big chunks out of the pristine course. This unexpected movement of the Earth really ruined my round causing for extra unnecessary strokes, and leaving a wake of damage in my path. On occasion, the greens themselves would actually move causing my perfectly placed shot to miss the green. With all the issues I just mentioned, once I was able to finally get my ball on the greens the greens seemed to be in good condition, however again there was unexpected ground movement, This time the movement was the hole itself. They would shift to the right or left, away from my ball and on several occasions it came closer to me, after I hit a perfect putt.
Overall these unexpected conditions added 17 shots to my score. Very disappointing. Unfortunately it does not seem these conditions are peculiar to this one course as it seems to happen on other courses I play week after week.
fairways and greens are in nice shape
Considering how many rounds are played during the weekend, the fairways and greens are in nice condition.
No Marshall during twilight
Every so often you see a guy playing the blue tees because all of his friends are but he should be playing the front tees. 3:20 tee time had a guy like this and they were two entire holes behind, hitting mulligans, etc. That’s what the range is for. So we called the pro shop and asked for a Marshall, but there’s no Marshall after 5pm so we were stuck behind these beginners with no understanding of pace of play. Pace of play should be an important aspect of taking a beginner out to play. And asking the group behind to play through should be considered. Absolutely annoying day.
