Chester washingron
Good price for this course. Course playing pretty good, just a little slow. Few challenging holes.
Fun...But not worth the money
Was on vacation and decided to try this course out. Overall it was too bad but the greens were in pretty bad shape. It was like playing on a teenage boys face. For 55 per person they really need to make some upgrades. I played the Westchester Golf Course the day before and that was 35 and the course was great.
LAST MINUTE IS GREAT!
Thank you very much for your services. Your services are very much appreciated and at no cost, it's a winning situation! I would recommend to any golfer who hasn't used your services!
great value
the course is well-kept and a great value for the play. course played a little slow and getting a cart took time but it was still a great time. looking forward to the next one
Chester Washington
Great course to hone in on the fundamentals of golf. Greens are often aerated which makes putting tricky on some holes. Course often gets packed around the 9th and 13th holes, which are Par 3's. If its a busy day on the course, expect a 5 hour round of golf.
June Bug Orgee
Its a fun straight forward course. The most challenging part was playing with the thousands upon thousands of June bugs flying all over the course. It must be mating season because there are literally thousands of them all over the course right now.
Great Time on the Course
I had a chance to play the course on Good Friday. We were the first ones out with a 6am tee time. The course played well and my group and I had a great time. Can't wait to get back out and play again. The course is great for all skill levels.
Wrong date
I was rather surprised that the date chosen was Friday when I am a full time employee that works 5 days a week. I was shocked that the attendant in the clubhouse did not honor our reservation to keep us coming back. He charged us full price so I will not bring any of my friends back to Chester Washington at this point. Thanks for returning the 7.98. BTW: We wanted something to drink on the turn and we had to drive all the way around to where they were having a function in separate area and we walked in and there was no attendant. I guess the guy we finally found could not make us any food so thank goodness you don't have to make sodas or Gatorade. This course needs some help in many ways for the money. $25.00 is a fair price for this joint
An ok experience when you finally get a cart.
I come here once or twice a month for the last year or so and have noticed the experience slowly getting worse each time.
Tee times: Seem to often start later than booked, This is due to a combination of logjams at the first 2 tees and more importantly due to a lack of golf carts. At one experience, 5 groups of people were all hanging out to cart-jack the next available cart so they could tee off. There is no order as a worker just drops a cart off in the middle , hops out, and people have to rush to it regardless of what their tee time is.
Course Conditions: I know there is a drought so I won't complain about it. However the sand traps are basically gravel on every hole.
Snack Bar: Not terribly important in the grand scheme of things, but if you want to try and grab a quick bite on the turn, good luck. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get a hot dog and a soda because they have one person working there regardless of the amount of people waiting.
It is becoming harder and harder to justify coming here.
Pleasant as an alternative
This isn't one of my regular courses but I always enjoy playing it as an alternative. My mother and I were parted with 3 men who made us welcome (which isn't always the case). The course was in decent condition given the drought.
A Fun Course
The course is very player friendly , the tree lines are just wide enough to give you a shot, overall just a fun yet challenging course.
Typical, average LA County Muni course.
No hand carts! Just so you know before you show up next time wanting to rent, they have none. Anyways...
The course is a typical Billy Bell design for the County. Kikuyu grass is well maintained mostly, quite fluffy everywhere including the rough. Horrible greens. They put the wrong kind of grass here. It's the hardest one to maintain well, especially when they keep it soft and spongy like it is now, as it is a cheap Muni, nobody fixes ball marks and so many greens are seriously pock-marked. It's really sad. The actual course is well laid-out, on the gentle sloping hills of this area just south of the 105 and north of Gardena, running alongside Western Avenue, it's a clever piece of property actually, I was mostly pleased to see it laid out well. You can tell that the course played long enough back in the day when the distances were enough with the old wood clubs with soft balls. But not now - it gets overpowered by long hitters, so the only defense are the TINY greens - and I mean TINY, postage stamp greens - that could be made to be very fast and tricky if they wanted to, but since it's a Muni it will never play that way, nobody would be able to putt, the greens do have enough slope on them. So, in the modern game, you still need to hit precise approach shots, to be sure to leave uphill putts here and avoid the thick Kikuyu rough if you're not good at chipping. Overall it's about what you would expect from an LA County course, most of their course have decent greens and are all laid out about the same, Knollwood, Los Verdes, etc. Not having rental hand carts is silly. My electric cart today had cobwebs all over it LOL. The money they put in are mostly on the tee boxes that are now framed by concrete to keep them level, and some cart paths were fixed, I'm told. There's just too much cart concrete on a couple holes too close to the greens though, a typical thing you expect from these kinds of courses that annoy me to no end because they're usually in places I would like to miss my shots on purpose. You might think - what if there's wind, that's where it would end up and bouncing a million miles. The monotony of the same look of many of the holes might bore some of you though.
Good buy
Good deal with Good location. Nice condition and easy to get out. Nice people and nice cart. Will be back for sure.
WIDE FAIRWAYS AND SMALL GREENS
GREENS PUNCHED WITH 3/8" HOLES ON 6/3/15.
I mention this, because my group didn't find out about it until the first green. SURPRISE! Otherwise, this is a really fun course. Tee boxes are good. The fairways are in nice shape with ample coverage. The sand in the bunkers is very good for a muni. The greens seem like they will be good after they heal and the ball doesn't bounce two to four inches in the air on many putts. This course isn't in the best area, but there was a policeman taking his break in the parking lot (and keeping an eye on the parked cars). I will be back, but I will be sure to ask about green maintenance next time.
Good for begining golfers
Course is good for beginner golfers. Advanced golfers will not find the course that challenging. The fairways are a combination of grass and dirt in more than a few places. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. I'd recommend beginning golfers and those working on aspects of their game to this course.
Day on the course
Always a fun layout to play. Pace was fairly good. Played on a Thursday morning, took almost 5 hours. Very green. Greens a little slow but running well.
