Tahoe Donner Golf Club

About
Located high in the Sierra among towering pines and meandering creeks, Tahoe Donner Golf Club is a scenic mountain course that is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program. The front nine of the golf course moves clockwise while the back nine moves in reverse, providing an interesting change of pace. The unique layout features narrow fairways that are lined with trees and large, undulating greens that putt true and fast. There are bunkers strategically placed throughout and a water hazard comes into play on the last hole. Dramatic elevation changes afford views of the mountainous countryside and the abundant wildlife that call Tahoe Donner Golf Club home.

The course is beautiful to look at but the fairways were very wet with many tight lies. Pace of play was very slow even though it was a Wednesday afternoon. We ended up playing the front nine twice to avoid a big backlog on the tenth tee.
Great find
For the price, this a premier place to play. Greens in great shape, well maintained and great views. Mountain golf at it's best!
not what I remember
Had a season pass for this course for 15 years ending 15 years ago......some nice improvements since then like the fairway on number 9 but back then these were some of the smoothest fastest greens around,,,,.don't know if it's because of late snow or heat but they were very slow and not in great shape.....i got a bargain so was happy but had I paid over $100 I would have been real dissappointed
Tahoe Donner
This is a private course recently opened to public play. It is beautiful, challenging, narrow, and fair. No surprises or tricks. Staff was friendly and helped us off the first 15 minutes early. 3.5 hr round and great weather made it a near perfect day. But I still shot my usual two good one bad and so on. Give it a try you wont be dissapointed.
Course not fully recovered from winter?
I would think by mid June the course would be recovered from winter but perhaps I'm wrong about recovery time at this elevation. A number of areas under repair, fairway turf quality generally only fair where not under repair. Greens very firm but generally slow.
A pleasant surprise
Tahoe Donner sports the highest elevation (6,200 feet and counting) in the Lake Tahoe region. That might help your ball go a bit farther. Just make sure you hit it straight.
Tahoe Donner's narrow fairways feel like crammed high school hallways in between classes. Instead of a mass of humanity blocking your way, the stately pines and evergreens are what slow any forward progress. It's a guarantee you'll either lose a ball in the woods or get knocked down by a limb at some point.
My only minor complaint would be some serious tee imbalance. Nobody wants to play a mountain course from the too short 5,947-yard green tees and the 6,562-yard silver tees are simply too long with par 4s of 430, 426, 452 and 439 yards. New tee boxes on these holes would be greatly beneficial to pace of play and help golfers go home happy with better scores.
Don't take my mini-rant wrong. This is a great place to play, and for the money, one of the best values in Tahoe.
Fun course through the pines
Really fun mountain course. This course winds through the pine trees. Good hole to hole variability, elevation change, and intermittent views. Some tee shots are tight where others open up and allow you to get after it. Many holes have different risk/reward options. The greens are large and pretty fast. Great slightly cheaper alternative to some of the other amazing courses up here. Had a blast playing here
Great course
Excellent condition and nice layout. The greens had significant slope and I found them hard to read. Probably lost 10 strokes putting. You cannot be above the hole. Bunkers had the best sand I have seen in the area - also great condition. Great and more cost effective alternative to some of the pricier courses in the area.
Tight fairways but great
This course was great! 2pm tee time. Course was not backed up and it went smoothly. Greens were a little slow but overall it was great! Great service as well
beautiful
Beautiful mountain course, with some very narrow fairways, lots of obstacles, unique 18th steep downhill hole
Tahoe Donner Golf Course
On a beautiful autumn day in the Sierras, myself and a buddy took the 40 minute (at most) drive from Reno to Truckee to play this majestic mountain course. The course was in excellent shape in early October. The fairways were in fantastic shape except for the aerating plugs, but did not hamper on fairway shots. The greens were fast and true with the pin placements in challenging yet fair positions. I will highly recommend this course to family and friends and anybody who asks where to play a mountain course.
Tahoe Donner
Absolutely magnificent golf course with tight wooded
fairways...First four holes are tough! You start with the #1 hdcp hole #1.Highly recommend this golf course.
great value
I was extremely happy with the whole package. Great condition and friendly for a first-timer on the course.
Beautiful course/very good condition
They had a tourney going on before but got us out pretty quick afterwards. Hooked us up with a father/son twosome and had a great time.
Did not disappoint!
Great course and an outstanding value with the GolfNow hot deal. Difficulty is medium to high, depending on whether you can keep it in play. A wayward driver will put things in the woods with little chance to play a recovery shot, if you can even find the ball. Greens are receptive but tiered and pretty fast, so stay below the hole! Good variety of long and short holes. 18th hole is quite a sight and very disconcerting to the eye from the tee box, but the landing area is actually quite generous!
Beautiful Course
Able to book this at the last minute while on vacation to Lake Tahoe. First time playing here and will definitely come back. Enjoyed the beautiful condition and scenery of this course. The course also challenged me but not too much.
narrow fairways, smooth a tad slow greens
This course is a good test of golf! Narrow fairways, good greens. Fun to getting used to the distances at this elevation, airmailed a few greens NOT GOOD, A local joined our group after nine, local knowledge helped a lot. Nice guy, Thanks!
absolutely spectaculer layout
this was my first time at this course it was awesome great greens and tree line holes through forest staff
was super friendly and they had a cart lady who I actually saw 4 times during my round cant wait to go back
Golf in Truckee
Wife & I played Tahoe Donner during our California trip. Had some lunch, got to play on time after being paired with 2 guys from the Sacramento area. A good time was had by all. Course was scenic & in good shape.
Nice Course
If you go there to play golf and the mens club is playing dont bother..They hold up the whole course and nothing is done about it..They make the tour look fast
