About
Opened in 1923, Ojai Valley Inn Golf Course is one of California's first great courses. Over the decades that the course has been open, it has hosted a number of professional players and celebrities ranging from Arnold Palmer to Will Smith. George C. Thomas, Jr., who created the Riviera, collaborated with Billy Bell to design the original golf course but Jay Morrish made the layout considerably more challenging with renovations in 1988. Ten years later, two holes from the original Thomas/Bell layout that were lost during a redesign following WWII were completely restored and incorporated into the layout. The challenging golf course is very narrow in some spots and it features undulating greens that putt fast and true. The layout is not particularly long but it requires accuracy and proper club selection in order to score well.

Golfer Reviews
Tough Course - But Worth it
Be prepared, the front 9 has plenty of challenges, the back is much more reasonably. Be sure to talk with the incredible Mark (starter), without his guidance the day would have been Much harder.
All of the staff from beginning to end were terrific.
The cost to play might appear expensive, however, it's worth every penny. Enjoy
Great Round on a Really Good Course
This was my first of many times to play this course. It was hot but the air was cooling and made the round quite enjoyable
Playing a Classic
Beautiful course, beautiful place, beautiful weather. What more could you ask for? The course is in excellent condition. Greens are quick and smooth. A very strategic course.
Golf not a priority
Inconsistent traps. Fairways dry. Once a favorite course of mine. Things have been deteriorating the past 2-3 years. Still a decent course just but worth the money
Top notch!
Overall, great experience! Beautiful course, challenging, with varied terrain. Super classy, off course amenities too.
Gem
Hadn’t played since remodel. Wonderful layout in beautiful setting. Fast, sloping greens. No hole is a repeat. Exceptional value through Golf Now.
Still as advertised
If I had to nitpick a. few things I would say a few of the greens were beat up and diseased, and 18's tee box is still wonky. They have been temporarily moving it up for years now.
But other than that, hard to complain. Great service, fun course and fantastic amenities. Definitely a top five course normal people can play in the LA/ Ventura/ OC area.
Beautiful
Great layout, fun but challenging and subtle and tricky greens. Beautiful!
One of my all time favorite places to play
Course, weather, views, difficulty, fairness ... all in one. Yes it's a bit pricey for sure - but you're not just paying for golf.
You're paying for the experience - beauty - lack of homes surrounding every hole. It's a package.
We valeted for the first time - HIGHLY recommended.
Ojai Valley Inn Never Disappoints!
One of my favorite courses in the LA/Ventura area!
Staff is always amazing! Course is always great and pace of play is always fast. Played in 3.5 hours on a Sunday today - almost unheard of!
Love the design and architecture of the course and will look forward to many more rounds here!
Sanded greens
No prior advisement from Golfnow or the proshop that greens were all under repair. Paid a premium for subpar conditions that, if timely advised, I would not have played. Very disappointed in the utter lack of honesty and straightforwardness with respect to the sanded greens.
Could be great
The setting is amazing. The resort is awesome. The course is short and is more target golf than anything. Most holes I teed off with a 4 iron which is plenty of distance to convert par 4s. My biggest complaint is that the greens are pockmarked massively, and the tee boxes are chewed up so sometimes the tees were compressed, shortening an already short course.
Never disappointed
My husband and I treat ourselves to this gem of a course as often as possible. From the moment we pull up to the spot to unload clubs from the car to loading up the golf cart, we are made to feel right at home, thanks largely to Mark! We always wish there were more than 18 holes because we never want the round to end! Can't wait to return to what we call our little slice of heaven!
