Colonial Charters Golf Club (formerly known as Palmetto Greens) is located in Longs, S.C. near Myrtle Beach. It has a laid-back atmosphere and is known for its consistently good conditions. The layout will test your accuracy with narrow, fairways and a variety of water hazards and sand traps. Golfers will encounter water on nearly every hole, two of them feature greenside waterfalls. There are also several strategically placed bunkers throughout the golf course and mature hardwoods line the fairways. There are a few challenging holes but overall it is player friendly enough for any skill level to approach with confidence. In addition to the golf course, Colonial Charters Golf Club has a practice facility with a driving range and chipping and putting areas. For those who are still learning, there are PGA Professionals available for lessons.

Reasonable rates

Whave plyed here many times in the past. The course is under new management and was more crowded than previously. We really like the layout with many interesting holes, but the course conditions leave a lot to be desired, and cart paths are in major need of repair.

Don't Go Out of Your Way

I played this course because I had never been there before and GolfNow had a tee time available for $12.00 per player. First off, the staff was great and the two gentlemen we were paired with were great guys. However, the course was in pretty rough condition. It was cart path only due to soggy conditions. Under any conditions the greens were terrible. More dirt showing than grass. Bunkers were OK. This course is very short. Approximately 6000 yds from the white tees and 6500 from the tips. I guess it would play well for ladies and seniors. Not a very scenic course. #7, 8 and 9 have had all the trees cut out for some reason. Lot of nicer courses in the vicinity.

Just another course very ordinary.

Nothing much exciting here I would imagine the course would benifit with the summer months, the greens looked poor but rolled pretty well. The men's tees were ok but the ladies tees were poor. Lack of directions indicators between holes, where to go next. There were no indications of what hole you where playing the tees.. In fact it was all pretty basic.Thankfully we got a deal on the green fees.Would not have liked to have payed the full price here!

Explanation of stars

Will definitely play it again Enjoyed the course overall. Conditions were very wet but not their fault. Staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. One big issue was the four ladies playing ahead of me. Wouldn't let me pass them and average wait was 12 to 15 min per hole as obviously were not experienced. Perhaps having a Marshall travelling around would have helped greatly. But will definitely return. Love the challenge of the course's narrow fairways. Thanks

Very Nice Course

Almost cancelled my reservation but glad I didn't. If you can hit the ball straight on every shot you won't have a problem. There is water on EVERY hole except #2, never played a course like this that I can remember anyway. The course is well maintained & it has a nice pro shop. The greens are a little difficult to read and also fast.

I can't say enough about this course. Well maintained, interesting lay out and the staff are outstanding. We have played several of the courses offered by golfnow and CC is far and away our favorite.

Still has a way to go

Played this course in it's last reincarnation as Palmetto Greens, new owners have made some improvements, local membership seems to be growing. We played with two members and had a good time. The course still has a problem with drainage, as there are many wet spots. Short of getting a good deal, I would not put Colonial Charters on my to play list.

Good course for the price. Good for beginners.

Haven't played this course for several years. Back about 3 or 4 years ago it was basically a cow pasture. Cheap, but rough condition. Decided to give it another try. Turned out to be an OK course. Fairways and greens were much better then expected. Obviously the current owners are putting some effort and money into the course. Still have a ways to go, but a good course for the price. Not particularly difficult but there are a few challenging holes. Good course for beginners or as a warm up for rounds at more difficult courses in the area. Must have changed a lot of holes around. Neither my GPS or my wife's GPS would match up to the holes or yardages.

The beach (sands) comes into play often

The Fall weather created Fall conditions. The grounds were hard making it difficult to get divots while creating balls rolling out of play or in traps & hazards. There wasn't enough yardage markers on the tees or fairways, so bring your GPS. Even so, my wife and I enjoyed playing the course and will play it again.

Colonial Charter - Varried Standards for Back and Front Nine

Back nine could use more TLC and/or significant investments at improving the conditions (e.g., a lot of weeds around the greens, hard fairways, etc.). Front nine was in much better shape as it appeared greener. No 8 is very narrow and I would like to see a line of trees along the driving range so the width is set within the standard golf regulations.

Friendly service

Pro shop set me up to play with a couple of members. They were very cordial and helped me greatly with their local knowledge. We breezed through the first 11 holes and then caught up to people who had started out the back. All in all pace of play was quite acceptable. As mentioned in a previous review the course changed hands recently and they are working on the signing at the tees

Good value

Layout was good but course conditions were not on par with other MB courses. Fairways were very firm and dry (lots of ball roll - sometimes it helped, sometimes not). Very friendly staff. Under new mgmt so course conditions may improve. Overall, good value for the rate we paid. Would play again next year.

Colonial charter golf course

1st time playing and enjoyed it. Some tee boxes need yo be leveled. Holes very easy to get to so that helped lower my scores. Faculty was very friendly. View was beautiful, fairways were very good. Will play here again.

Paired up

Did not appreciate being paired up . We should have been told somewhere when we booked this on golfnow. The couple we were paired with we're far superior to play than we were and it resulted in an uncomfortable atmosphere for all.
