About
Baytowne Golf Club at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is routed from the beach to the bay, providing stunning views along the way. The course rolls across the few elevation changes that the area has to offer. Although it opened in 1984, the golf course didn't reach its peak until it underwent extensive renovation in 2005, which were carried out by the original designer, Tom Jackson. The layout features rolling fairways lined with mature pines that are generous and times but can be tight when you least expect it. The large, undulating greens can also play faster than what you might be expecting. Water, which comes into play on 12 holes, is a prominent feature of Baytowne Golf Club as are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout.

It's been aerated, but still fun to play. The staff were awesome.

This course is absolutely terrible
Do not go play this course. It is so bad the greens are horrible and it is not worth 30$ to play this dog track. I have not played a course this bad. Do not play this course it is bad. Was asking for my money back.

Public golf course conditions at country club price!
Don’t waste your money playing this course! $109 green fee and greens were horrible, heavy sanding on the greens which I can understand sometimes, but adjust the price when it’s done! Bunkers were hard as a rock, haven’t been cared for in a while! Guess you’ll have to pay the $159 to play burnt pine or Raven!

Good course - Bad condition
It had been raining for a while. Still - a lot fo the fairways and rough were brown. A lot of patches could have been repaired. Keeping in mind that it was probably the busiest time of year, I will give some leeway., That said, some holes didn't have cart paths and the carts would slow you down as you drove through the fairway. Hole 13 was a complete chaos (looked like a dog track after a weekend of racing) as the hole looked like it was in a war zone and hadn't been maintained in a year or more.
I was excited to play the course. Disappointed no doubt, especially for the money. Wish we would have gotten a warning about the conditions and maybe a better price considering.
Oh yeah. The ONLY friendly person on the course was the gentleman that greeted us and loaded our bags on the cart. The pro shop, the starter and others were not enjoyable at all. Zero interaction. Dry and almost disinterested.
We saw the beverage cart on the first hole. didn't see it again until 14. We were told at the turn from the clubhouse grill that it wasn't that busy and they were unsure why we hadn't seen the beverage cart.
Not a bad place, but it could have been better.

HOT Deals
I’ve played the Baytowne and Raven course’s several times in the last couple years. This was the first time I had used golf now to book a tee time for this course. Last minute tee time. The staff working the pro shop seemed irritated that we purchased a hot deal. They made several statements about our group as the hot deal group. To the point it seemed frowned upon to use this option. We were paired with another gentlemen who also booked through golf now and he described a similar respond from the pro shop staff. The pro shop staff need some polishing on manners. If they don’t like golf now hot deal offers then maybe don’t allow these for your course. There are other courses in the area that I’ve played and the staff were much nicer. The course was wet but there had been a lot of rain. It drained well and the fairways were nice overall. Greens were patchy and slow. Bunkers hadn’t been raked in a while by the looks of them.

Avoid Baytowne
Course has so much potential but falls flat due to lack of proper care. First impression upon driving up was that the course would be solid. Nestled inside of the Sandestin resort, the aesthetics when you pull up are nice. That quickly changes once you walk in. The pro shop staff member (older gentleman) who was manning the register didn’t bother great us. Just asked if we have a tee time and then printed our slip. Absolutely zero customer service skills were displayed. Took the slip and went out to the driving range. Range was in good shape but there are a limited number of stations so there was constantly a wait to get a spot.
Starter was VERY pleasant and engaging. Have us thorough instructions on navigating the entire course as it crossed the road a few times and went under a main road in one spot.
Now the course is where the problems really lie. The front 9 were in decent (not great) shape. Lots of tire tracks from the maintenance vehicles around the greens. The greens themselves cut low and didn’t show many weeds, but definitely played slow and we’re pretty much all brown. The back 9 on the other hand were atrocious. Weeds galore from the tee box, through the fairways, and on the greens. It’s as if they didn’t bother to maintain the back 9 at all. For the price of a round here, you’d think the course would at least be in “good” shape. When factoring the condition of literally every hole on the back nine, it was abysmal. Save your money and go play Kelly Plantation.
