Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort offers four 18-hole, championship courses designed by three renowned architects. Raven Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., was carefully carved through marshes, native wetlands, and towering pine forests. Jones created a layout that is hailed for being both modern and traditional. It is also notable for how it seamlessly flows into the surrounding nature. The golf course offers plenty of variety both in shot options and visual scenery. The diverse holes are accented by dramatic changes in color and texture throughout the landscape. Water comes into play frequently and there are a number of strategically placed sand traps. Golfers are presented with a myriad of different ways to play each hole, which means thoughtful strategy is a necessity. The golf course's large, undulating greens also make proper club selection essential.

I played the course 2 days after their aeration period unknowingly (I didn’t realize the reduced price was a reduced price). Had a tee time at 12:50 as a solo - the trio I had been randomly paired with canceled - so the starter asked if I’d rather play alone or wait for the next tee time at 1:00 with a 2some (giving me the option earned points in my book). I opted to wait and thoroughly enjoyed the guys I was paired with. Considering aeration 2 days prior, the course was in immaculate condition and I can’t imagine it before aeration. I will be returning for many years to come. 11/10. I also will mention the pro shop doesn’t have quite as many options as far as “things” go, but it is very reasonably priced and they do have enough to leave with some cool memorabilia.

Raving about the Raven

I drove about an hour and fifteen minutes to play this course. Do to all the rain that had fallen the 3 days prior, the full access to the practice facilities were limited. The wind was blowing 17-20 mph, so it wasn’t an ideal day to play such a difficult course. That said, I loved the course layout, and the green were in pretty good shape. I would definitely recommend this course, and I can’t wait to take another try under better conditions.

Fairways were in average condition, a bit thin in some areas. Some of the greens were in rough shape with evidence of weeds. This course has gotten very expensive in the last two years and is about out of my price range. Definitely not worth what they’re charging in its current Condition.
