Raven at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
About
Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort offers four 18-hole, championship courses designed by three renowned architects. Raven Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., was carefully carved through marshes, native wetlands, and towering pine forests. Jones created a layout that is hailed for being both modern and traditional. It is also notable for how it seamlessly flows into the surrounding nature. The golf course offers plenty of variety both in shot options and visual scenery. The diverse holes are accented by dramatic changes in color and texture throughout the landscape. Water comes into play frequently and there are a number of strategically placed sand traps. Golfers are presented with a myriad of different ways to play each hole, which means thoughtful strategy is a necessity. The golf course's large, undulating greens also make proper club selection essential.

Horrible
We are a twosome and are 6-10 handicap golfers.
The 2 they paired us with ( husband/ wife) couldn't hit the ball! Many times they whiffed and lost 3-5 balls per hole.
We started at 1 and played 14 holes because of these extremely painful " golfers" .
I understand the days of golf for golfers are over but this was exceedingly painful. These type of golfers should be at Top Golf or find another sport like bowling.
We won't ever come back.
Typical Winter Conditions
In terms of course conditions, I would rate them as quite good and typical for a Dec 31 tee time. The practice area was rather soggy though and finding a patch of turf to stand on & hit from in decent condition was tough.
The course design offers a good variety of challenges. Playing the course more than once will help you know when & where to aim your shots to take advantage of the risk/reward opportunities.
The only negative I want to mention was the extremely slow pace of play. Course Marshalls are needed and would be helpful to speed up or hold back offenders. 5 plus hours on course is not my idea of an ideal round.
All things considered, I was happy & feel privileged to be out playing when I could be back home shoveling snow and dealing with sub freezing temps. So yeah...life if good.
Happy New Year folks.

Nice course
Nice course. Greens rolled true, played in the morning so dew slowed things down. Fairways and tees were in good shape.
The course is nice but read the fine print first.
This past weekend was the second time in less than a month that my husband and I have gone to Destin and scheduled golf. Playing the Raven was a first for us. We called and were told we could make all reservations online, which was easy and convenient; however, nobody told us that traveling with one golf bag (easier to travel with) is frowned upon and we shouldn’t say anything or they could make us leave. Nobody told us before we paid premium prices for both of us to play that if someone wanted to say something, we could have to leave or that we had to stay in groups of 4 at all times, but a single gentleman riding the wrong way on the course jumped right in behind us, pushing our group and holding up the foursome behind us and nothing was ever said. We are no pros, just trying to have a fun and relaxing vacation, but nobody else out there was a pro either. Make it make sense! If it’s going to have different rules than the other two courses there, someone should probably explain that when you call (so you can bring two bags) or when you check in before they take your money. Is it a nice course, absolutely, but their lack of information and personality make it not worth it. Disappointing to end your vacay like that.
Course Review
The course was in good shape but hard for a 75 year old. I’m a 15 handicap but it was long & tough. It was hard to see which tees were white. I enjoyed playing it because it was a challenge. There weren’t any Marshall’s out on the course & we had a twosome that were slow & on 1 hole hit 6 balls off the tee. We finally played through & we finished quicker. It was fun.
Beautiful Course
I really enjoyed the rolling mounds and plentiful water views.
Course and facilities need facelift
Played the saturday after thanksgiving
Pace of play was poor - no marshalls and even after we called pro shop no response
Halfway house is a shack and no 19th hole
was decent for price
Great golf course with excellent playing conditions.
Recommend playing the course to those who are avid golfers. Not for the novice or first time players as conditions are difficult.
A slow fivesome played in front of my foursome and the pro shop did nothing about it
