Bargoed Golf Club

Rang the club repeatedly in the morning to check whether the course was open as I live an hour away. Finally on my 5th attempt I got thru to the bar as no one else answered to be told of course it’s open.

Got to the course and couldn’t find anyone in the office of club shop.

Tee mats were unplayable, fairways were saturated and the greens were underwater.

Phoned the course in the morning to check it was open before travelling, I was told of course it’s open . So two friends and I turned up to a course with the shop and office closed. We started the first with wind and rain raging around us. The mats were useless for driving off. Fairways were unplayable and the greens were under water. The course should have been closed hours before we even showed up.

Second time I've played the course and well impressed. Best winter course I've played even after days of heavy rain it played very well

Sadly wasn't told about the holes being changed around and one temporary green.

We got to the back 9 and our GPS stopped working regarding yardage and couldn't find the 11th tee. Asked a local player and he said during winter the holes are changed around which I've never encountered anywhere else. Spoiled the round somewhat.

Played off mats which were in poor condition.

Would come back but only in the summer months, don't let this put you off its still a nice course to play , staff are always friendly whenever we visit.

Greens had been hollow typed,this information should be given at time of booking and reflected in the green fee price,extremely disappointed 😞

Quite enjoyed this course. It looked like I’d made a mistake walking from the car park as the first hole didn’t look great off the tee (7 iron off the tee to a shared fairway with the 9th - the hole was only 220 is yards and dog legged left). Once you get past the first the course really comes alive. Great fairways and lovely greens. Tee boxes need to be sorted as a lot of them were quite bare and uneven (the blocks were spread across the entire box instead of being sectioned off to allow one half to grow while the other is in use). Not much over a challenge if you can hit it straight as it is not a long course.

More than enough of.a challenge for me a 9 handicap wind blows nicely smallish greens lovely condition - could do with a map on the score card the route hole to hole isn’t that obvious but other than that thoroughly enjoyed it

Many fairways were crossing over each other and some tee boxes are very much in the firing lines of players approaching neighbouring greens. Could be nerve wracking if playing in a very busy day. We had a rather quiet afternoon so it was just ok.

A treat to play at this time of year. Pound for pound one of the best. Not the longest, but you better be straight! Fab greens and lovely fairways with stunning views from many of the holes. Just a shame about I got the shanks!🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤣

The course was kept in superb conditions, greens were better than any other course I’ve played in South Wales recently. The staff were incredibly friendly and the members were the same. If I lived closer, I would be a member without hesitation. I look forward to coming back!

Most courses in South Wales were not playable due to the amount of rain, no problems at Bargoed. Excellent conditions. Only downside was the lack of any shop to purchase any consumables. So ensure to have all you need to enjoy your round.

Booked to play this course with a friend as ours was closed due to the recent wet weather. Friendly greeting in the office on arrival and other than some guidance that fairway mats required on some of the holes it was go when ready. Course was in great condition considering the already mentioned wet weather with run on the fairways and receptive greens. Even the weather played ball and we enjoyed a lovely sunny Spring afternoon with little wind. Only blemish was that the clubhouse didn't appear to be open so we couldn't have a drink afterwards but hey you can't have everything.
