Great course... greens not up to par
Love this course.... both the San Gorgonio and Santa Rosa courses are always in such great shape. Unfortunately this course is not up to standards based on the greens. I gave the overall rating 4 stars but the greens are only 3 star. They have not come out of overseeding well and are very sparse. The greens crew have done a good job of making them roll true, but they are not full and lush like has been the standard in the past. Hopefully they will improve. I'll be back.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) with Mneilson and his wife Doris in 3.5H early morning using Underpar. The weather was clear, calm and was around 45 when we teed off and was close to 60 when we finished.
The course came out of over seeding in EXCELLENT condition.
The over seeded tees were lush and very nicely maintained.
The over seeded fairways are lush and nice to play from.
The over seeded rough is mostly lush and thick but not overly high.
The sand traps were well maintained with thick, excellent quality white marble sand.
The large over seeded greens were very nice. They are smooth, firm and putted medium fast with few ball marks.
No GPS or ports for electronics on the basic carts. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered, especially Jose with the carts. Drink cart around several times. A negative is that San Gorgonio does not have a driving range. You have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has an all grass driving range. Definitely recommended.
Great but. ....
The course was reseeded a week and a half ago. The greens were really slow but nice layout
Fairways were beautiful!! Great condition!
The course was ready to be reseeded so everything was brown and dead. Not the best playing conditions.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) using Forelinx right before it is closing for over seeding. Matched up with 3 nice Canadians, we played in 4H, 20M. The weather was nice, sunny, calm and in the 90's.
The Bermuda tees are brown and mowed low.
The Bermuda fairways are mostly brown but still nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is mostly brown and mowed low.
The sand traps have excellent quality white sand and were well maintained.
The large Bermuda greens putted medium fast speed and are very firm.
The customer service was good as usual here. No drink cart today but they have adequate water stations on the course. No GPS on the basic carts or ports for electronics. No driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. Recommended after fall over seeding is completed.
Disappointing conditions
We booked this course expecting it to be in excellent condition. Upon arriving we saw that the course was scalped, brown/dry grass everywhere. The golf course should have made people aware on the website that these were the conditions as there is no way we would have booked. The course stated we didn’t have to play, (in a rather abrupt manner,) however since we had driven 45 minutes to get there and didn’t have another option to golf, we decided to give it a try. The fairways were extremely hard and after 9 holes we decided to quit. Very disappointing! Not coming back to Mountain Vista or golf now as we feel this was a money grab.
Wide Open Fairways, challenging greens
Course still recovering from the summer so some bare spots in fairways and around the greens. New, white, soft sand in the traps, beautiful to look at, need a shovel to get out of.
Greens were hard and running fast, but putting true.
Overall a good value and a decent design.
Biggest complaint is there is no clubhouse or facility at the turn.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Steve, Stew and Alan, 3 nice seniors. POP was 4H, 15M playing in calm, sunny conditions in the low 90's.
The customer service was good as usual here. Drink cart out making the rounds. No driving range onsite, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. No GPS on the basic carts or ports for electronics.
The Bermuda tees were mostly lush and well maintained.
The Bermuda fairways are mostly lush and nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is mostly lush. Even though cut low, it is thick and will impede your balls momentum and cost you alot of yardage on longer shots. Great POP rough.
The sand traps had excellent quality white sand and were well maintained.
The large Bermuda greens putted medium fast speed and are very firm.
Billy Casper design. Numerous well spaced tees and it's a good test for players of all skill levels. Nice balance in play ability and difficulty. Currently the course is 10 days from closing for fall over seeding and they are drying it out. It plays very firm right now. Recommended, one of the better values in the Palm Springs area.
Sub City Palm Desert Course
Everything was great except a stone-faced course marshal who hovered for no reason. The staff in the pro shop was similarly un-welcoming for no reason! Sort of weird actually. The course itself was fine and enjoyable.
Great course
Play here at least 12 times a year. It’s always in great shape, with very nice greens.
MV San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) using Forelinx. Matched up with Emil, Dan and Dennis, 3 local seniors, great group to play with. POP was 4H, 20M playing in calm, sunny conditions in the upper 90's.
This Billy Casper designed layout is fun to play. Nice balance in play ability and difficulty. Numerous well spaced tees, I usually play with seniors and we often play 2-3 different sets of tees and it's a good test for players of all skill levels. The Bermuda plays firm and the playing conditions are remarkably good for fall before over seeding.
The Bermuda tees were lush and well maintained.
The Bermuda fairways are lush and played firm. Nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is mostly lush and thick. Cut low, they impede your balls momentum even though not overly high and are still relatively easy to play from.
The sand traps had excellent quality white sand and were well maintained.
The large Bermuda greens putted medium fast speed and are firm.
The customer service was good from everyone encountered. No drink cart today. Reasonably priced restaurant onsite that is usually very busy. Main negatives are that they do not have a driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. No GPS on the basic carts. Recommended.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) with Barry, Dave and Rex in slightly more than 3 1/2 H early morning. All super seniors who played the correct tees, played fast, had a great time and were super fun to play with! The weather was sunny, breezy and in the mid 80's.
The Bermuda tees were lush and well maintained for divots.
The Bermuda fairways are mostly lush and nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is mostly lush and not overly high. Some browned out areas, but usually nice to play from.
The sand traps have beautiful, white, marble sand. Immaculately maintained, they were excellent.
The large Bermuda greens putted medium speed and are firm. Almost no ball marks because of the firmness.
The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered, especially the cart guy Jose. He does as good a job with your clubs as I have ever encountered and looks to go the extra mile. Much appreciated! Reasonably priced restaurant onsite that is usually very busy. Solid course, main negatives are that they do not have a driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. No drink cart today. No GPS or plugs for electronics on the basic carts that they just swapped out with newer models. Recommended.
MV San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128), playing 36 holes and averaging less than 4H per round. The weather was sunny, windy and around 85. 3-4 club wind early morning, so windy that dozens of trees were uprooted or were broken in half over night. Down to a 1-2 club wind by the afternoon. The Bermuda tees were mostly lush and well maintained for divots. The Bermuda fairways are semi lush and were nice to play from. The Bermuda rough is semi lush and not overly high. Usually nice to play from, The sand traps have been recently renovated. Beautiful, white, marble sand, they were excellent. Superb quality sand and well maintained. The large Bermuda greens putted medium speed and are firm. Almost no ball marks because of the firmness, which had to be accounted for on irons and chips for run out. Main negatives are that they do not have a driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. No GPS or plugs for electronics on the basic carts. The customer service was good from everyone encountered. No drink cart today. Reasonably priced restaurant onsite that is usually very busy. Solid course. Recommended.
Great course
What is already one of my favorites in the desert, they are now filling all the traps with white soft sand. Looks much nicer.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) as a single in slightly less than 3H super twilight using UP. The weather was hazy and breezy in the low 100's.
The Bermuda tees were semi lush and well maintained for divots with some bare areas.
The Bermuda fairways are semi lush and were nice to play from.
The Bermuda rough is semi lush and not overly high.
The sand traps are being renovated. Beautiful, white, marble sand, they were a good as any I have ever played. Thick, excellent quality sand and were well maintained. Going to be fantastic when they get them all done!
The large Bermuda greens putted medium speed and are firm. Reasonably smooth for Bermuda.
The customer service was good from everyone encountered. I was the only one on the coure super twilight. No drink cart today. Reasonably priced restaurant onsite that is usually very busy. Solid course. Main negatives are that they do not have a driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. No GPS on the basic carts. Recommended.
A surprise find
Each time through the Desert we try to find some new courses for the non-scratch duffers like us. My wife and I are summer-only golfers and we're just finding our legs these first rounds. Tried this layout and we were very pleasantly surprised. The weather was expected to be hot, but it stayed reasonable through much of the round. Made it around in under three hours. The course is very forgiving for our game. The few we ran into were gracious and friendly. We'll be back.
San Gorgonio summer surprise
While busy and a bit slow the course was in great shape, especially for June. We enjoyed the round and found this course to be challenging but not as much as Santa Rosa. Forgiving fairways and beautiful scenery.
Great Track
This course was in great shape. Even with being freshly punched it played well and greens were great! We can’t wait to play it again.
San Gorgonio
Rode the Blacks (6669/71.9/128) as a single in slightly less than 3H mid day using Under Par's replay feature. The weather was clear, breezy and in the high 90's.
The tees were lush and well maintained.
The fairways are lush and firm, nice to play from.
The rough is lush and thick even though it is mostly mowed down low.
The sand traps had thick, good quality sand and were well maintained.
The large Bermuda greens are firm and putted medium speed.
Solid course. Main negatives are that they do not have a driving range, you have to go 1/2 mile down the street where the sister Santa Rosa course has a nice, all grass driving range. First, if you were the group who teed off around noon and quit after 9 holes, ALL the groups behind you are glad you quit after 9 holes. Because if you were that group, perhaps taking pictures like you posted from hole #7 are why the front nine took us 2H, 35M to finish? Why we were waiting nearly every shot, and not just a little wait either. After the noon group left after nine, we played the back nine in 1H, 45M? 50M quicker to play a back nine that is longer and considerably more difficult than the front? Second, go onto Greenskeeper dot org and check on golf course conditions before you book. Best site I know to accurately get that information.
