Hollywood Beach Golf Club
About
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club offers a championship course where you can enjoy a private and secluded setting free of homes anywhere near the fairways, tees, or greens. Donald Ross originally designed the golf course in 1924. It has a classic layout that has withstood the test of time to become one of the area's most popular public courses. Seasoned golfers will find that the course is not the most challenging but it is good for a casual round that will still keep you on your toes. The course is tight, requiring a fair amount of accuracy. There are not many hazards but there are some and they are very strategically placed. The layout is player friendly enough to accommodate a range of skill levels and the affordable rates make Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club doubly appealing.

This course has special l'odeur trees
It would be appréciate to havé à Marshall to lead the course.
Close to the beach
People only playing when on vacation tends to not care about neither the group in front not behind. On a busy day, a good portion of patience is needed to enjoy the round.
Reasonably maintained, but sad to see the restaurant building did not survive a recent storm. Nice folks.
Great course of the money
Staff was extremely friendly. Pace of play was excellent. I played a round in the morning (8am) as a single and joined with another single and was able to finish at noon.
Played a second round at 1pm as a single and was done by 3:45.
Course is in decent shape for the price.
Excellent value with exceptional staff
It’s so so conditions but easy to play, not expensive, nice customer service and very convenient in and out. Quick and easy!
Great course for price.
Fairways, were good. Greens were good, but need a mowing.
Club house small, Club 1924 is a food truck. Staff very friendly.
A Favorite Place to Play
I have been playing this course for over 30 years and like to play here about 3 times a year. The condition of the course for this time of the year is typical and overall acceptable and a good deal. I was surprised to see the hotel and club house was removed and I hope a new facility will be built soon.
On The Improve
Rising temps and rain have helped fill out fairways at historic track, but bumpy greens are still too hairy. Rain-soaked traps were hard, there was no beverage cart, and a foursome playing in front of my buddy and I would not let us play through. We went around the quartet and barreled through mostly-empty course in 2 1/2 hours. As always, staff was friendly. Still a good course for getting in swings, particularly for $15 via Golf Now.
Terrible greens
Me and my friends chose this course because it was close to where we stayed in Ft Lauderdale. On the practice been we saw what was coming. These are the worst greens I've ever played in the US. Even the greens in Norway are better after a long winter. If only they cut the greens it would have been ok.
Slowest greens in S. fla.
Appeared cups hadn’t been moved in at least a day.
Good place to knock the bell around but bumpy, slow greens were a letdown.
Pace of play very good but probably due to below-average course conditions.
Fantastic value
I grew up playing Donald Ross courses in New England, but rarely was I able to do that for $35.00 on a weekend. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The conditions were definitely not the greatest, but one of the players I was paired up with mentioned the conditions are much better over the summer due to the increase in rainfall. I enjoyed the layout of the course and found it to be fairly easy.
Historical Restoration Required....and Deserved
Last year, this municipal, hard-luck track initially endured termites that destroyed its on-course clubhouse, restaurant and hotel where Al Capone used to hang out. Then Hurricane Irma devastated this classic Donald Ross course filled with deep, green side bunkers and strategically-placed fairways traps and small ponds. Woefully underfunded for years, HB badly needs a financial shot in the arm from its owner, the city of Hollywood, to restore this historic course where President Harding once teed it up in 1923. If nothing else, money should be provided to shore up the shag carpet greens, as the parched fairways should fill in with upcoming wet season in a few weeks. The bunkers were playable and the tee boxes were in fairly good shape as I and three playing partners wheeled around the nearly-deserted course in just three hours. While the beverage cart service was good, the pro shop staff was effervescently professional. An on-site food truck served up a delicious cheeseburger to an long-timer fan of HB who anxiously waits for three modular buildings that will house a lounge and snack bar. A new clubhouse is in the works, as well....hopefully.
A Great Value And An Easy Course
I selected Hollywood Beach Golf Club to play recently as part of a two-round day trip to Florida (long story, not relevant to this review) but I chose it for the perceived value this course offers and that perception was confirmed by my experience here.
I paid just $25 for a morning weekday tee time and while the layout here didn’t wow me and though the conditions didn’t blow me away, I thoroughly enjoyed my time. The staff was courteous and accommodating in getting me off on the back nine to avoid larger groups and I played in under three hours which was great.
There were plenty of ball washers and towels and water stations with ice. The Donald Ross design is tight on a few holes but there’s not a ton of trouble off the tee to be found. The ground is Florida-flat and it’s easy to find and stay on the greens.
In terms of conditions, they were just ok. The bunkers were very nice and the maintenance crew were out trimming and edging which was nice but many of the greens have invasive grass that caused some uneven putts. Tee boxes and fairways were fine, no real complaints.
This is a very scorable course being just par-70 and not particularly hard. For that reason alone (ok, and the cheap green fees) I might come back down from Virginia to play here again in the future.
Honest course
HAd a great time, course is a lot nicer than expected compare to last year. The greens need a little work, but overall very good.
Challenging
Nice course but a little run down.
No bathrooms or water stops.
Some of the green are a little rough.
Course layout is very good
Fairway grass very poor
Putting greens slow with many poor patches full of weeds
Bad course . Faiways have little grass greens are inconsistent not worth the money. Horrible rentals if you are a lefty. Definitely would NOT recommend this course.
