Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
About
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club offers a championship course where you can enjoy a private and secluded setting free of homes anywhere near the fairways, tees, or greens. Donald Ross originally designed the golf course in 1924. It has a classic layout that has withstood the test of time to become one of the area's most popular public courses. Seasoned golfers will find that the course is not the most challenging but it is good for a casual round that will still keep you on your toes. The course is tight, requiring a fair amount of accuracy. There are not many hazards but there are some and they are very strategically placed. The layout is player friendly enough to accommodate a range of skill levels and the affordable rates make Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club doubly appealing.

Fantastic value
I grew up playing Donald Ross courses in New England, but rarely was I able to do that for $35.00 on a weekend. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The conditions were definitely not the greatest, but one of the players I was paired up with mentioned the conditions are much better over the summer due to the increase in rainfall. I enjoyed the layout of the course and found it to be fairly easy.
Historical Restoration Required....and Deserved
Last year, this municipal, hard-luck track initially endured termites that destroyed its on-course clubhouse, restaurant and hotel where Al Capone used to hang out. Then Hurricane Irma devastated this classic Donald Ross course filled with deep, green side bunkers and strategically-placed fairways traps and small ponds. Woefully underfunded for years, HB badly needs a financial shot in the arm from its owner, the city of Hollywood, to restore this historic course where President Harding once teed it up in 1923. If nothing else, money should be provided to shore up the shag carpet greens, as the parched fairways should fill in with upcoming wet season in a few weeks. The bunkers were playable and the tee boxes were in fairly good shape as I and three playing partners wheeled around the nearly-deserted course in just three hours. While the beverage cart service was good, the pro shop staff was effervescently professional. An on-site food truck served up a delicious cheeseburger to an long-timer fan of HB who anxiously waits for three modular buildings that will house a lounge and snack bar. A new clubhouse is in the works, as well....hopefully.
A Great Value And An Easy Course
I selected Hollywood Beach Golf Club to play recently as part of a two-round day trip to Florida (long story, not relevant to this review) but I chose it for the perceived value this course offers and that perception was confirmed by my experience here.
I paid just $25 for a morning weekday tee time and while the layout here didn’t wow me and though the conditions didn’t blow me away, I thoroughly enjoyed my time. The staff was courteous and accommodating in getting me off on the back nine to avoid larger groups and I played in under three hours which was great.
There were plenty of ball washers and towels and water stations with ice. The Donald Ross design is tight on a few holes but there’s not a ton of trouble off the tee to be found. The ground is Florida-flat and it’s easy to find and stay on the greens.
In terms of conditions, they were just ok. The bunkers were very nice and the maintenance crew were out trimming and edging which was nice but many of the greens have invasive grass that caused some uneven putts. Tee boxes and fairways were fine, no real complaints.
This is a very scorable course being just par-70 and not particularly hard. For that reason alone (ok, and the cheap green fees) I might come back down from Virginia to play here again in the future.
Honest course
HAd a great time, course is a lot nicer than expected compare to last year. The greens need a little work, but overall very good.
Challenging
Nice course but a little run down.
No bathrooms or water stops.
Some of the green are a little rough.
Course layout is very good
Fairway grass very poor
Putting greens slow with many poor patches full of weeds
Backwards
Golf course seems to be going backwards, but so does some other courses around here too.
Ok
We played this coarse last year and booked my husband and a guest earlier this month .
He enjoyed his round so we returned. Very close to our seasonal rental. Will return. Good
Value through golfnow.
Okay for the price but don't get too excited
I booked this round of golf because of the close proximity to my hotel. The course was a little beat up and my rental clubs were very out dated with no towel to clean up when needed. It poured when I was there and the course did not drain well. But the staff was frendly and I was paired up with a very frendly person.
Average conditions
Amazing weather, nice staff, we were on our own pace, so we finished just under 4 hours. I would say the course needs work; greens had several kinds of grass, some tee boxes needed TLC (dry and sandy), and fairways were super quick because they were pretty dry. If you hit it right, it can be to your advantage because your ball will run forever. However, drive with caution, with a strip of water coming through some of the course, might run right into the water. I have played here before and for the right price, I would return, however, not sure how much the course conditions will improve.
In Transition
Very nice course and super friendly staff. However almost all the buildings onsite were damaged by the hurricane to the point of condemnation. So the clubhouse is the only facility...no lockers, temporary bathrooms.
Very much enjoyed playing the course and would go back again.
Ok round
We enjoyed the round met some interesting people from out of the county. The round was slow . Alland all I would return for the price we paid it was fine.
Nice Course
I played this course 4 days in a row. 2 days as a single and 2 days with other players. It was a fairly quick rounds - between 3.5 and 2 hours for the rounds. I think Wednesday is members day as there were about 5 or 6 foursomes that went off before my group. Play was a little slower that day - 3.5 hours. But on Thursday, I had the 1st tee time and it only took me 2 hours to finish as a single. Greens were fairly good for the most part, but there were several greens that had splotches of wide bladed grass mixed in. There was water somewhere on almost every hole. Lots of sand traps around all the greens. It was a challenging and enjoyable course.
Hollywood beach review
Course was a little dry. The bar and restaurant are not open. Overall not bad.
Bad course . Faiways have little grass greens are inconsistent not worth the money. Horrible rentals if you are a lefty. Definitely would NOT recommend this course.
