Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
About
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club offers a championship course where you can enjoy a private and secluded setting free of homes anywhere near the fairways, tees, or greens. Donald Ross originally designed the golf course in 1924. It has a classic layout that has withstood the test of time to become one of the area's most popular public courses. Seasoned golfers will find that the course is not the most challenging but it is good for a casual round that will still keep you on your toes. The course is tight, requiring a fair amount of accuracy. There are not many hazards but there are some and they are very strategically placed. The layout is player friendly enough to accommodate a range of skill levels and the affordable rates make Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club doubly appealing.

Old track, had fun with group.
I arrived and starter said, there's a threesome on the tee now, join them. I was 20 minutes early so it was nice to get right out. The group I joined was terrific and it made the day a lot of fun. The course was average. The greens had a lot of sand. The fairways were decent and tee boxes good. $60 was high, but really inline for the area and time of year. I'd probably go back if in the area.
Decent Layout, Poor Conditions
Played HBGR today and generally enjoyed the experience. It's a fun layout - not too long, but well placed hazards and bunkers pose a challenge. Some of the greens have false fronts which is typical of a Donald Ross designs so accuracy on the approach shots is necessary. It's a visually appealing course and it is well-routed considering the small parcel of land it is on. The conditioning, however, left much to be desired. The greens in particular were slow-ish and bumpy. But, nonetheless I liked playing here. The staff was very friendly and I was paired up with a group of golfers from Pittsburgh and they were a lot of fun. I'd love to give it a try when it's in better shape.
Great layout: wide fairways and challenging water placement. Use most clubs in the bag. Rated conditions "fair" solely due to weeded greens; tees & fairways great. Would have been much happier with rate & recommend if greens were in better shape. Very beautiful & fun course otherwise.
Amenities
Very friendly staff, some greens were a little rough shape. I was surprised that when i being from out of town, needed a towel and a blue brush they had nothing at the pro shop, really didn't have much for sale at all.
Excellent value
HBGC is a great value and very accessible from my home. We played a very fast round under 4 hours.
Course is in good condition and has many challenging holes
I just enjoy the reception and the course
Thank you
Conditions a bit rough
Tee boxes rough, fairways not always a good lie and greens bumpy and painfully slow. Course needs more attention.
100 year old Ross Course in the middle of town
Don't let the length of the course deceive you....this is one tough course, especially if your chipping game is your weak link.
Small greens with severe false fronts/ fall-offs on the shorter front 9 . Water comes into play on the first 5 holes and ponds/ creek are located in strategic areas. Back 9 Is 300 yards longer than the front and has many trees but fairly generous fairways.
Pluses...courtesy and friendliness of staff
Pace of play ( at least between June-Thanksgiving)
Challenging layout
Proximity to beach
Minuses..,,condition of greens and sand traps
Skip It
This course is awful - the greens are in bad, bad shape. There is green sand on the bad spots (?) There are A LOT of bad spots. The food is just OK and the off course amenities are old. The course lay out is just OK,. It's not a long course but it has lots of ponds that will sneak up on you if you have not played there before. This course is worth about $25 for 18 holes. If you pay more than that, you will be disappointed.
Fun course
Fun course to play. Especially for a high handicapper like me
Well Groomed Course
Enjoyed playing here. The staff was friendly, the fairway and greens were well groomed and lots of wildlife. We saw some beautiful birds, iguanas and a sleeping fox! We enjoyed our time there.
Good course - Don't close it!!!
Extra friendly staff. Course is in pretty good shape. It was a rainey day so the greens were extra slow, but still a great day.
Rumored that the city of Hollywood is going to build more condo in place of the course. Absolute shame, this course has been around for 91 yrs and should stay open as a historical landmark.
September Golfing
This is my second time playing this course. The course is in good shape. I've read reviews where some have complained the greens are slow...they are...big deal. This course is fair. If you are off the fairway you could be in trouble, however the rough is not a for sure 1 stroke penalty. There are some fun holes on this course. I will continue to play this course when in the area.
My home course - great golf, great staff!
I love the HBGR! This is my home course. The course challenging enough of me ( I’m a seasoned duffer! ) and always a very fun time. The staff really makes the HBGR a very pleasurable experience - very friendly and knowledgable. I always enjoy my time at the HBGR and Rudy’s Lounge has some of the best food in the area - it is a true foodie gem in Hollywood.
Challenging for first time. Great condition
I really enjoyed playing this course. It takes some thinking and club management. The course is in good condition and is worth the green fees. I am actually surprised I hadn't played here before. Only problem was with a ranger. We mentioned that the threesome ahead of us had gotten slow after the 11th hole and they did not have anyone in front of them for at least a hole and a half (we were on 15 and they were moving at a great pace up until then). His answer was: "Well, they are a threesome and you are a twosome so you're going to have to wait. Besides, you're not going to be able to hit 200 yards against the wind." Other than that, from ProShop to starter, it was all great people.
Past it's prime
Played an afternoon during Christmas week. Course condition was only fair, many bare spots on the greens and fairways. Tee boxes were not well cared for. All needed mowing. I expected more from a Donald Ross layout. Course not well marked, no GPS on carts, very difficult to know yardages to hit having not been here before. For $35, on GolfNow, the value was ok, but just not a really enjoyable experience. We left after 9, too slow.
Pleasant surprise
Although the course was still damp from the excessive rain over the past few weeks, the course condition was surprisingly good and with the deal we got through golfnow, it was well worth the trip. The layout was pretty straight forward, laying within the boundaries of a fenced in neighborhood in congested Hollywood. Easy access from rt 95 was a big plus. I could see under drier conditions the course could be really nice.
Better weather would help
Nice, scenic layout but it's on low lying land. The greens held up fairly well but sporadic rain caused fairway puddles and lots of plugged balls. I'd like to play it again when conditions improve.
friendly staff but poor quality of course
Some teebox in reparation..cannot play on...lot of green and fairway are horrible...no grass
I certainly not recommend that course to my friends
