Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
About
Although it is tucked away among rolling green hills and mature oaks, Lake Jovita Country Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than 30 minutes north of Tampa. The club offers two championship golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita, has a more traditional design than the other course. It features generous fairways and velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th hole even features a 94-foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. It is one of Florida's "must-play" courses

Lines on the greens after being punched. Difficult to putt with these grabbing the ball as it rolled into them. Photo submitted by bvmagic on 05/30/2016
Great Layouts
Picturesque landscapes and fast greens at both the North and South courses at Lake Jovita. What's unusual here are the hills which you don't typically see on Florida courses. The south plays tougher but the north is plenty challenging. You'll enjoy your round regardless of which you choose.
Perfect Weather
The weather was perfect and the greens were beautiful. But it seems that my ball found all of the bunkers on the South Course. Bunkers everywhere so beware where you hit it! Next time I will have better knowledge of the holes. Overall, yes, go play this course.
Excellent
You talking about two courses to play, Lake Jovita got it going on. Both courses are in excellent condition and the greens are near perfect. Check Lake Jovita for yourself you will be glad you did.
Great!
I personally prefer the layout of the south course in my opinion is more challenging than the north course. the greens are fast and the course is in very good condition.
Recommended!!
Great greens
Nice friendly course with outstanding greens. They roll well and true.
Great to play a course in Florida with 'rolling terrain',
One of the best course I've played in Florida, and I've played over a hundred
Great greens, great layout as most holes were on there own, will definitely be back
Manque d'entretien
Très beau layout, de très beaux trous.les trappes de sable pas ratelées. Un petit peu de manicure serait merveilleux mais c'est quand même trés bien. À recommander
Nice Course-Horrible Customer Service
We had two foursomes scheduled to play on 10/22 at 7:45am. We arrived one hour prior to our tee times. Upon arrival, there was no bag staff to meet us. Not what you'd expect from a big dollar course.
We went into the clubhouse and were greeted by a wonderful older woman. She told us that the restaurant wouldn't be open before we teed off. She did make us a cup of coffee though. Which we greatly appreciated.
When we went to the pro shop to check in, a less than enthusiastic young lady met us. I gave her our voucher. She handed me 4 cart keys. I had to ask which course we would be playing. I was told the South Course.
We went outside and no cart staff was around. Members were all around, but not one offered a friendly smile or a welcoming word. I went back in and asked which carts should we take. The young lady told me to take any cart. So we loaded up our bags....but where do you go?
Once again, I asked the girl in the pro shop. I was told to go up the hill. So we drove our 4 carts up to the top of the hill. There were at least 10 member carts there. When we told the starter we had a 7:45 and 7:54 tee time, the members started making nasty comments. One member yelled out, "Jesus Christ, public players are going out before us!" Far from a welcoming atmosphere.
The course itself is as described by other reviewers...a nice track that needs some tlc. The holes are fair, but a test. The fairways, especially the first 3 or 4 holes, were sparse and overly wet. The greens were very nice. The traps were by far the worst part of the course. Many looked like they have been underwater for months. Very few appeared to have been raked within the previous week. Very disappointing for what is supposed to be a great course.
My advice to people looking at this course, if you don't mind being treated very poorly...play here. I played 9 straight days in Florida, at 9 different courses, and not one had such poor guest services as Lake Jovita did. Customer service costs nothing, but defines the backbone of the facility. Spend your money elsewhere.
Excellent course
The course was in great condition, greens wer quick but rolled true.........staff was very accommodating!!
Beautiful views on the south course
Course in beautiful condition, pace of play was excellent, greens are quick definitely recommend this course very friendly staff
Let Down
I had heard rave reviews about Lake Jovita, but ended up being very disappointed. Played the South course and teed off 20 minutes late to a backup on the tee box. There were 4-5 holes that were cart path only and most of the bunkers were flooded. The one's that weren't, were eroding away. Doesn't look like they want to add sand until they can raise the rates. The fairway on the 9th was dug up across the entire fairway and there was work under repair on two other holes. One of the lakes on the back nine smelled like a sewer and there were workers walking all around the green near the
green. Since we went off mid morning, we thought we could get something to eat from the cart girl. However, we saw one cart on the second hole and another on the third and that was it. We saw one of them on our 17th hole and she drove right past us. Tried to get something to eat at the downstairs food window, but it was closed. Had to go upstairs to get a sandwich at the turn and it took 20 minutes just to get a quick bite. The fairways were nearly dirt thin and the rough was so long you could lose a ball just off the fairway. On a positive note, the greens were in great shape and the course was basically empty in the afternoon. Very disappointing!!
Thoroughly Disappointed
When we got there we found out that 5 or 6 of the holes on the south were cart path only. What we did not find out until we got out on the course was that the bunker were filled with water, the cart paths were flooded with water and the remainder of the holes were very wet. This is the worst condition I have ever seen Lake Jovita in. They should have been up front and reduced the rates and told the public that they were in bad shape and offered reduced rates. We used out coupons and saved money but to save money and play on a bad course is not good!!!!!.. Will not be returning for quite some time and definitely would not recommend to my firiends.
Great time even with recently punched greens
This time of year I'd typically tough on the courses around here, but the conditions were very good despite the recently punched greens and higher than normal rough. The pace of play was also very good.
Expected More
I have lived in the area for many years and this was the first time I played Lake Jovita. I was waiting for a good deal which I received from Golf now. The tee boxes are in rough shape. The bunkers were hardpan bad. I enjoyed the layout and most of the greens were OK. Overall, the $35.00 I paid was more than enough for this experience.
Best course in area.
The South Course is the best layout in central Florida. The fairways are spectacular and the greens are good. You don't want to miss this one.
KenALucas Thank you for the kind words. We look forward to seeing you in the future.
horrible course
played south course horrible condition almost all greens bad rough looks like it was cut last year had a guy hiding in woods to tell you not to drive on fairways even thought they were dry as a bone will never go back
My first and LAST
Greens were slow with large bare areas, most pins in other areas but not all. Edges of greens weren't mowed. Strange layout with awkward holes (#1 was strange) and #18 had a road crossing the fairway near the landing area. Ready to hit and cars suddenly crossing the fairway. Many holes cart path only for no apparent reason. For the money paid, I was extremely disappointed. I played the north course last year and liked it. I'll not play the south course again.
Greens not up to usual standards
Lake Jovita South course is one of my favorite layouts to play. The course has a lot of variety and slope for a FL course and is usually in great shape. That being said, the most recent trip I feel I did not get my $'s worth for the round on the South course. Greens were were punched and had some lines cut in that would make judging breaks tough because the ball would often fall into these tracks and follow that line.
Handful of greens were in rough shape with some dirt spots, not the Lake Jovita I have been accustomed to in the past. Golfnow did not have an aerification warning, so the condition of the greens blindsided us. See the the pictures of the "lines" and the dirt spots. The dirt spots is a pic of hole 10 green which was the worst. I would call ahead to get a gauge on the green conditions before coming back. For $42, it was not worth the hassle with the greens.
Great Fairways Greens Need a Lot of Fixing
I booked a 12:50PM tee time at the North course but end up playing in the South course. My wife and I came an hour early. The starter was very friendly and I was able to take my wife with me without paying the rider's fee. The starter told me that the three other guys will be a few minutes late so I asked him if I can go out by myself and he told me I can play the South course if I want to. The fairways are in a great shape the kind of fairways I love to play. Most of the greens are really in a bad shape. There are so many dead grass on most of the greens and some are really fast and some are average slow. I like the sloops of the greens they are very challenging. Although me and my wife are looking for trees to hide, like at the World Woods but we really enjoy the expensive houses around the course. There is this one guy driving around with his clubs and fishing rods. He wasn't playing golf. He was fishing. I probably will go back there to play the North course hopefully with my friends.
Great course
Pace of play was a bit slow. Other than that this course is a superb test of all shots in your bag.
1kevin1 we look forward to having you back out. Thanks for the positive review.
