Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
About
Although it is tucked away among rolling green hills and mature oaks, Lake Jovita Country Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than 30 minutes north of Tampa. The club offers two championship golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita, has a more traditional design than the other course. It features generous fairways and velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th hole even features a 94-foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. It is one of Florida's "must-play" courses

Lines on the greens after being punched. Difficult to putt with these grabbing the ball as it rolled into them. Photo submitted by bvmagic on 05/30/2016
Slick greens
Slick greens but in great shape. Wish group in front had known what the rakes were for
Very slow round
Tee off at 8:30 as a twosome on golf now on the very challenging South course
quickly caught up to foursome and the wait began. 2 1/2 front nine. Saw a lone ranger on the 13th hole but never came close. Gorgeous day, good conditions but SLOW round, just under 5 hours
Not worth the price. Many other options nearby
So Nice Played it twice
I bragged about Lake Jovita to my friend, we played the South course on a Wed, and he was so impressed we returned to play the North course on Friday, and treated another one of our buddy's to a round of golf on his birthday. My buddy said it was the best birthday gift he had received in a long time.
Worth playing
Playable course & nice facility. North course is much better than South! Overal good value...
A little expensive for the money
While the layout and scenery were nice, the course itself could have been better. Even though it was booked through GolfNow.com at $68 plus the fees it seemed a little steep for course conditions and when the cart lady said $10 for 2 Powerades I about hit the floor! I don't mind paying a little extra for something for convenience but I sure don't like getting robbed either!
Excellent
Great setup. Pro shop was well laid out with friendly staff. Greens in very good shape. Pace of play was 4 hour round. Will definetly return to play again
Great layout with fast challenging greens.
The course is fair yet very challenging. It is important to choose the correct tees for your level of play to enjoy the course. I played in winter conditions. The overseeing was average at best. However, the greens were perfect, fast and intricate. This course, like many is beginning to show signs of deferred maintenance.
I'm just saying
The locals I played with told me this used to be a primo course. They've had some budget cutbacks where they removed the GPS from all the carts and don't maintain the course conditioning as well. Removing the GPS was a mistake since it helps to speed up play and maneuver the course better.
A gem in the Tampa area
The South course was beautiful, challenging, and great fun. Ranked #41 in the January 2015 Golf Digest listing of the top 75 daily fee courses in Florida, I'd put it much higher.
Too wet & not so beautiful for cost
It looks too expensive for the course.
Club house and staff is very nice but the course is too wet. I understand it was after heavy rain but it cost same as usual.
It Should Have Been Better
Course layout is outstanding, but overall condition left allot to be desired for $80 per round. I've played this course in the past and it was pristine and well worth the money. They have slipped backwards.
Great Time
The course was in excellent condition, super layout, and great greens. Loved playing there and intend to do so again soon.
Très beau parcours
Très beau parcours de golf autant la qualité du gazon que la beauté du paysage.Les verts sont rapides et très ondulés,ce qui est tout un challenge.Attention aux 3 roulés. Belle expérience.
Great conditions, excellent greens
My son and I played the South course as a twosome. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The pace of play was good, although a "five-some" of members playing in front of us on the front side slowed us down a bit until we made the turn. The greens were absolutely fantastic, very true and somewhat speedy. The course has some interesting holes, but nothing that blows you away. Overall, this was an excellent value and I highly recommend it.
Those greens are fast!
Good course layout as we played on the south. A good amount of water in play on several holes and bunkers sprinkled throughout. We played from the White tees (6206) which was a little shorter than normal courses I play but 6600 would've been a stretch as the wind was swirling pretty good. There were a few spots that were soggy (lower lying areas) but overall it was fairly dry for the amount of rain we've received in the area. I haven't played this course in 4 years but I do remember the greens being fast and that still holds true. My playing partner couldn't catch the speed which faired well for me. Definitely plan on going back to play the North course sooner than 4 years.
Great Course
Not my first time here and won't be my last. Have played both North and South and like them both. Have always met with friendliness and the courses are always in great condition. Problem is getting my friends to drive the extra distance from Palm Harbor to play. Highly recommend to anyone who has not played either course to give them a try.
As the heat index rises, so does my enthusiasm here
There's nothing like having a fantastic golf course all to yourself and that was exactly my afternoon at Lake Jovita. Yes, the heat index was somewhere around 103 degrees, but I would do it again tomorrow without hesitation. After playing the impressive layout of the North course a month ago and being told the South was more scenic, I went back and the South lived up to that reputation and more. There are more elevation changes to the South and when you hit shots in the proper spots, this works to your benefit. On that note, it was nice to get actual roll on my drives for the first time on a Tampa Bay Area course in weeks. While I did have a few modest mudballs, I found most lies to be quite clean and only noticed some casual water in low-lying areas of bunkers that I'm supposed to avoid anyways. Is it just me or are Par 3 designs at Lake Jovita just very fun to play? Honestly, I truly enjoyed 16 of the 18 holes on the South. The exceptions were #1 (nothing like the toughest tee shot placement being the first ball of the day) and the Par 4 15th (which is a very difficult angled approach shot for those of us who play blue tees and don't hit enormous drives). Greens were very receptive to all types of approaches and putts rolled fast and true.
Very nice course my favorite that I have played on this workcation.
Played as a single got thru the course in just over two hours, wich is how I like to play. Greens were great even though they had been ariated sometime around the first of the month. Farways were great and rough was playable. Very nice views on the south cource lots of wild life to look at and ver applealing layout. only negative was there was no hole lay out on the score card or tee box markers. Never having played this couse I had to kind of quess where best place to try and hit drives and a few layup shots. Defenatly had to be pretty accurate on a few holes which was nice got to use alot of the clubs in my bag. I would defiantly play this course agin on a future trip.
A must play for every golfer in the Tampa Area
This is a must play golf course. Not my first time playing at Lake Jovita but the conditions are getting good and for the price you can't beat it. The South course is challenging but fair. The greens are fast and true this is definetly a place where you can make birdies but also make double bogey. Play during the week and you can find some great deals.
Stay away from the Bunkers
Beautiful tee boxes, fairways, and greens. Nice shaded areas. Some empty water stations. I have the uncanny ability to be in as many presented bunkers as possible. I also do well in getting out, however, the sand or dirt in these bunkers were like cement. Sand is not a rare commodity, buy some sand and I'll try to stay out of your bunkers!
Buy your drinks at the store and bring them in in a cooler so you dont pay high prices. Thats what my dad and I do. You arent going to find a cart girl driving around to give you a drink for under$4 anywhere.
