Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
About
Although it is tucked away among rolling green hills and mature oaks, Lake Jovita Country Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than 30 minutes north of Tampa. The club offers two championship golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita, has a more traditional design than the other course. It features generous fairways and velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th hole even features a 94-foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. It is one of Florida's "must-play" courses

Great conditions, excellent greens
My son and I played the South course as a twosome. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The pace of play was good, although a "five-some" of members playing in front of us on the front side slowed us down a bit until we made the turn. The greens were absolutely fantastic, very true and somewhat speedy. The course has some interesting holes, but nothing that blows you away. Overall, this was an excellent value and I highly recommend it.
Those greens are fast!
Good course layout as we played on the south. A good amount of water in play on several holes and bunkers sprinkled throughout. We played from the White tees (6206) which was a little shorter than normal courses I play but 6600 would've been a stretch as the wind was swirling pretty good. There were a few spots that were soggy (lower lying areas) but overall it was fairly dry for the amount of rain we've received in the area. I haven't played this course in 4 years but I do remember the greens being fast and that still holds true. My playing partner couldn't catch the speed which faired well for me. Definitely plan on going back to play the North course sooner than 4 years.
Great Course
Not my first time here and won't be my last. Have played both North and South and like them both. Have always met with friendliness and the courses are always in great condition. Problem is getting my friends to drive the extra distance from Palm Harbor to play. Highly recommend to anyone who has not played either course to give them a try.
As the heat index rises, so does my enthusiasm here
There's nothing like having a fantastic golf course all to yourself and that was exactly my afternoon at Lake Jovita. Yes, the heat index was somewhere around 103 degrees, but I would do it again tomorrow without hesitation. After playing the impressive layout of the North course a month ago and being told the South was more scenic, I went back and the South lived up to that reputation and more. There are more elevation changes to the South and when you hit shots in the proper spots, this works to your benefit. On that note, it was nice to get actual roll on my drives for the first time on a Tampa Bay Area course in weeks. While I did have a few modest mudballs, I found most lies to be quite clean and only noticed some casual water in low-lying areas of bunkers that I'm supposed to avoid anyways. Is it just me or are Par 3 designs at Lake Jovita just very fun to play? Honestly, I truly enjoyed 16 of the 18 holes on the South. The exceptions were #1 (nothing like the toughest tee shot placement being the first ball of the day) and the Par 4 15th (which is a very difficult angled approach shot for those of us who play blue tees and don't hit enormous drives). Greens were very receptive to all types of approaches and putts rolled fast and true.
Very nice course my favorite that I have played on this workcation.
Played as a single got thru the course in just over two hours, wich is how I like to play. Greens were great even though they had been ariated sometime around the first of the month. Farways were great and rough was playable. Very nice views on the south cource lots of wild life to look at and ver applealing layout. only negative was there was no hole lay out on the score card or tee box markers. Never having played this couse I had to kind of quess where best place to try and hit drives and a few layup shots. Defenatly had to be pretty accurate on a few holes which was nice got to use alot of the clubs in my bag. I would defiantly play this course agin on a future trip.
A must play for every golfer in the Tampa Area
This is a must play golf course. Not my first time playing at Lake Jovita but the conditions are getting good and for the price you can't beat it. The South course is challenging but fair. The greens are fast and true this is definetly a place where you can make birdies but also make double bogey. Play during the week and you can find some great deals.
Stay away from the Bunkers
Beautiful tee boxes, fairways, and greens. Nice shaded areas. Some empty water stations. I have the uncanny ability to be in as many presented bunkers as possible. I also do well in getting out, however, the sand or dirt in these bunkers were like cement. Sand is not a rare commodity, buy some sand and I'll try to stay out of your bunkers!
Beautiful landscaping
Beautiful scenery. Enjoyed playing here. It was my first time and I was blown away with how beautiful it was. Definitely want to play here again.
Really nice facility
Everything was great from the employee's to the course to the practice range. I will be playing there more. I've played a lot diff expensive courses but by far Jovita has the friendliest staff.
Terrific course...go play it
It had been 5 years or so since I'd been here, and it was worth the wait. We played the south course-my opinion, the better of the two. The greens had been aerated a few weeks back but have healed nicely. They rolled great even though you can still see a few scars. In another 2 weeks they should be tour quality. The elevation changes make for some great views that are hard to find in Florida.
If you can get a price under $50 to play here, buy it! You won't be disappointed!
Great course
Great course. used every club in my bag. Great terrain for florida. Great greens. Great course design. Actually has elevation changes.
North and South rounds
Played both courses in same day. Great layouts and views. South is tighter for sure, but North had more elevation changes. Conditions were spotty with quite a few greens having bare spots as well as fairways. $55 we paid for each round was high based on conditions, but highly recommend both courses as both are a must play.
one of the best in the area - an escape from the monotony of florida courses
greens are really good, pretty fast for this area and well maintained.
both north and south courses are beautiful with completely different layouts. North is more wide open and south is more difficult but a good and fair test. Both courses have some great signature holes with amazing elevation changes for being in central florida. Great value for two quality courses.
Rolling terrain but poor pace of play
Course not how it was portrayed. Pace terrible, no marshals moving people along. Greens fair. Traps horrible? Fairways fair at best. Poor value for price. Mgmt quite proud of their course. Would never spend that money to play again. Worth half of what they charge. Even members were complaining
Good solid test
Played the South Course. As a single and not being paired with anyone, I found the first hole to be a bit confusing as I wasn't sure exactly where the green was. Hint: The hole bends to the left. I found the course to be interesting and challenging, really no complaints. The South has more elevation changes than the North, which I played a couple of days earlier. I enjoyed both courses and would recommend both to traveling golfers. Also, the North is not a "weak sister". It is a very good course also, just different in character from the South.
Very Good Overall
4/5 *'s in my opinion. Albeit, I'm a golfing novice so don't put much precedence in what I have to say. The staff was really knowledgeable and friendly which goes a long way with me. IMO for the money, there should be either computers on the carts or keys at the tees outlining the hole.
Disappointing!
Played the South course. Course layout is wonderful but course condition was terrible! No grass in the fairways or roughs, no sand in any bunker (all mud!) and greens, though very fast, had lots of bare spots. Definitely not worth the $80 they charged. Will not be going back.
Good...but could be great!
This course has a combination of good holes and challenging ones as well. There's enough to keep our attention. The condition of tee boxes and some greens left me feeling a bit cheated. Pace of play was ok, but to put a single in between a string of twosomes was interesting. I don't think we paid as much for the round as much as we paid for the 'privacy' that I had just playing with my partner. In the end , it didn't excite me enough to return...unfortunately. Sorry.
OK course and overpriced for the conditions
Staff was extremely pleasant and the starter was no exception. Greens were OK but the sand bunkers were horrendous. Will wait to hear of improvements before I return
Great Day at Lake Jovita
First time playing the course. Beautiful track! Can't wait to go back.
