Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
About
Although it is tucked away among rolling green hills and mature oaks, Lake Jovita Country Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than 30 minutes north of Tampa. The club offers two championship golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course, the original track at Lake Jovita, has a more traditional design than the other course. It features generous fairways and velvety-smooth greens. The layout weaves through lakes and ponds that into play on several holes. The course was built to fully utilize the hilly terrain, incorporating a variety of elevation changes throughout. The par-5 11th hole even features a 94-foot drop from tee to green, which is the largest natural elevation change in the entire state. It is one of Florida's "must-play" courses

Expected More
I have lived in the area for many years and this was the first time I played Lake Jovita. I was waiting for a good deal which I received from Golf now. The tee boxes are in rough shape. The bunkers were hardpan bad. I enjoyed the layout and most of the greens were OK. Overall, the $35.00 I paid was more than enough for this experience.
Best course in area.
The South Course is the best layout in central Florida. The fairways are spectacular and the greens are good. You don't want to miss this one.
horrible course
played south course horrible condition almost all greens bad rough looks like it was cut last year had a guy hiding in woods to tell you not to drive on fairways even thought they were dry as a bone will never go back
My first and LAST
Greens were slow with large bare areas, most pins in other areas but not all. Edges of greens weren't mowed. Strange layout with awkward holes (#1 was strange) and #18 had a road crossing the fairway near the landing area. Ready to hit and cars suddenly crossing the fairway. Many holes cart path only for no apparent reason. For the money paid, I was extremely disappointed. I played the north course last year and liked it. I'll not play the south course again.
Greens not up to usual standards
Lake Jovita South course is one of my favorite layouts to play. The course has a lot of variety and slope for a FL course and is usually in great shape. That being said, the most recent trip I feel I did not get my $'s worth for the round on the South course. Greens were were punched and had some lines cut in that would make judging breaks tough because the ball would often fall into these tracks and follow that line.
Handful of greens were in rough shape with some dirt spots, not the Lake Jovita I have been accustomed to in the past. Golfnow did not have an aerification warning, so the condition of the greens blindsided us. See the the pictures of the "lines" and the dirt spots. The dirt spots is a pic of hole 10 green which was the worst. I would call ahead to get a gauge on the green conditions before coming back. For $42, it was not worth the hassle with the greens.
Great Fairways Greens Need a Lot of Fixing
I booked a 12:50PM tee time at the North course but end up playing in the South course. My wife and I came an hour early. The starter was very friendly and I was able to take my wife with me without paying the rider's fee. The starter told me that the three other guys will be a few minutes late so I asked him if I can go out by myself and he told me I can play the South course if I want to. The fairways are in a great shape the kind of fairways I love to play. Most of the greens are really in a bad shape. There are so many dead grass on most of the greens and some are really fast and some are average slow. I like the sloops of the greens they are very challenging. Although me and my wife are looking for trees to hide, like at the World Woods but we really enjoy the expensive houses around the course. There is this one guy driving around with his clubs and fishing rods. He wasn't playing golf. He was fishing. I probably will go back there to play the North course hopefully with my friends.
Great course
Pace of play was a bit slow. Other than that this course is a superb test of all shots in your bag.
Challenging but fair
The condition of the course was very good and the greens were nice and fast. Like any course, I might have plaid a few holes a bit differently, now that I know it. Not as hilly as the North course but possibly more difficult.
Great value!!
Great value for afternoon play right after the time change.
Lake Jovita offers terrific golf at a great value
A terrific golf course for way less than $100 in peak season: That's the South Course at Lake Jovita, just outside Dade City and about 40 minutes north of Tampa. In short, this 36-hole hidden gem is well worth the drive. The South Course is the older of the two layouts, designed by Tom Lehman and Curt Sandness and opened in 1999. A real shotmaker's course that takes advantage of the natural rolling terrain, I really like the way both nines end around a common lake. The clubhouse is also spectacular, perhaps the largest in the area.
Great layout
Great layout, lots of water but doesn't really come into play I bet it's beautiful in season. I'll be back.
Great Day on the Course
A bit cool for Floridians on the day we played so it felt like we were the only ones on the course. The course was in great shape, the holes were varied and interesting, and the greens were fast and true. It was our foursomes first visit but we will definitely return. It was a great day.
Nice and laid back with style.
Very friendly staff with all of the amenities you could ask for in a country club. Relaxed atmosphere inside and on the course. Very challenging but not overwhelming. Highly recommend and will return.
Could be much nicer but course condition was poor.
Great potential but poor condition. Nice facility.
South course is a good and challenging course
Lake Jovita Golf Club is a very good venue. The courses ( South & North) are not typical Florida courses. Elevation changes make for challenging golf shots, and scenic views. The 11th hole (signature hole) has Saint Leo University as back drop at tee box. Your tee shot to green is a reported 95 foot natural drop!
A Hidden Gem
Played this course several times over the last decade. It's well out of the way from where I live and normally play but its the best residential course I have played under $100 a round. it would be difficult to complain. Wide fairways, a zillion bunkers, nice speedy greens...what's not to like.
Good Course but damaged greens
I like Lake Jovita. I tend to favor the North Course a bit but played the South Course yesterday. It is a nice layout and plenty challenging for a 10 handicapper. Tee to green was in pretty good shape but quite a few of the greens had damaged areas. The parts of the greens that were not damaged rolled pretty true, but found myself moving the ball to avoid green damage.
PS: They also were out of score cards? Hope this is not an indicator or anything.
Worst conditions I've ever seen this course in!!!
I have played this venue many times in the past. It has always been one of my favorites. I have always been a great marketer for this place. At least try to get there once every month or two. When I went last weekend I couldn't believe what sorry condition the South course was in. Staff not very friendly at all in pro shop either. I have heard that from many others in the past also. The course looked like it was under watered, dry and bare greens, and very poor overall condition. Not sure about the North Course but I will not be back until I know the course is in much better condition. What a shame. I only wish that I had taken pictures to show what it has been in the past and what it is now. Soooo sad!
EXCELLENT COURSE
NORTH COURSE IS IN GREAT CONDITION. REQUIRES
THE LONG CLUBS FOR A LOTTA SHOTS.
Great layout, but horrible greens
Love the layout of the Lake Jovita South Course, but it seems no matter when I come the greens are hampered by aeration holes. I read a review from 2 weeks ago that mentioned that greens were just aerated, so I thought they'd be healed by now, but they were still absolutely horrible to putt on. The only thing that made it bearable for me was that I only had to pay the GolfNow.com deal of the day price.
KenALucas Thank you for the kind words. We look forward to seeing you in the future.
