Mt. Woodson Golf Club
About
Mt. Woodson Golf Club is one of San Diego County's most popular courses for a number of reasons, one being the spectacular setting. Nestled in the Ramona Valley, the course is sprawls across a dramatic landscape of towering oak trees, enormous granite boulders, and sparkling blue lakes. Nearly every hole on the golf course provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains and canyons. It is also known for being one of the most challenging and well maintained layouts in the area. The tight fairways and small greens demand accuracy. There are also plenty of interesting elevation changes throughout. The golf course offers true target-style golf that will test the shot-making abilities of even the most experienced players. One of the most unique features of the course is the 450-foot wooden bridge that winds through the treetops.

Play a scenic round of golf in a beautiful setting
I've played Mt Woodson for over 20 years and it's still one of my favorite places for golf in San Diego. The course isn't a 7,000 yards championship track but the layout in the foothills of San Diego and the scenery makes it worth your time. You won't see your next hole because of the terrain and there are a few surprises to challenge your skills. The course was in great shape considering the water restrictions, the greens allowed high approach shots to stick. The 450 ft. wooden cart path between the 3 & 4 holes is an adventure to use, it's suspended between the peaks and is something you'll remember. There are a few homes along the course but it's not a typical suburban course. The par 5's are challenging and there are plenty of bailout areas but you still have to be accurate with your shots. The weekday price for golf was very reasonable at $54 each with a cart but they don't have a driving range, they did set up a hitting net if you want to warm up.The cafe has good food and of course beer.
Excellent
Excellent conditions, golfed amazing, great and friendly staff, hot deal so it was priced perfectly
Greens weren’t like they normally are
I know they punched the greens a couple weeks ago. But the greens weren’t bad because of that. They were so patchy. So many huge spots with no grass at all. Also the 18th green was closed for full price
Literally every green was damaged by a fungus and mostly unreadable. All putts were bumpy.
The final 18th green seas so bad they constructed a temporary green.
Not worth playing. Had I known the course condition, I’d definitely not have played this course.
Target golf
Nice course and layout. Had to leave the driver in the bag, but with a good drive you can shoot low. Course was in decent shape even with no rain for a long time. In a side note- definitely order a hot dot at the grill. They are fantastic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice relaxed place to visit.
Nice layout poor condition
Challenging layout for short course but the condition is very poor.. More goat track than golf course.
My Round at Mt. Woodson Golf Course
I remember playing this course 10 and 15 years ago. The layout was why I returned to play it again. The vistas are amazing from so many tee boxes and greens. The course was in excellent condition; however, some of the greens did have some problems (we were told fungus) Most were not a problem and did not affect putting much. A few of them were problematic. Overall, I loved the course and the layout.
What happen
No clue how this course went from good to terrible so quickly. Boxes are terrible. Greens are somehow even worse.
If you decide to play, you should also decide to accept automatic 2 putts.
greens are recovering
Most all the greens seem to be recovering from a disease. I am sure the staff will fix the issue as soon as possible.
Mt. Woodson, Ramona
Unfortunately the greens were ravaged by fungus and recent heat...especially the front 9. It will take awhile for them to come back to any decent shape ( the backside greens were much better, but still a bit worn). Worth the Golfnow/Golfpass rate to get in some swings...and finished in 3.5 hours...so some positive points.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
This course has a very interesting layout which I did enjoy. The fairways seemed fine. But those greens are ROUGH at best. The staff were very pleasant and courteous. I hoped after reading some of the recent reviews that I would be pleasantly surprised. I was not. This could be a wonderful course, but not a great value with the greens in their current state.
Mountain Heat
Mt. Woodson has good bones and plenty of potential to be a worthy test. I knew it would be narrow and short, but that did not mean that it would be easy. Good shots are rewarded. The par 5's are fair and scoreable. There are not many scrambling opportunities to make par from off the fairway as many off-target shots are penalties or off into the canyon. Some of the greens were damaged due to no water or poor maintenance. It is a fun, unique, challenging test on a charming layout. I'll come back another time when it isn't 100 degrees.
HELP the greens
Fairways is very good condition, but, Greens - ugh, were just hurting.
Thanks for the feedback. We had a series of unfortunate events happen here at Mt. Woodson including electricity issues affecting watering schedules as well as consistently high temperatures and humid weather. We are doing everything we can to get the course back into the shape you can expect from Mt. Woodson and look forward to seeing you back.
