Rocky Bayou Country Club

I played this course while vacationing on the beach in Destin. I was looking for a nice course to play but didn’t want to spend the $75-$125 price that most of the courses near by charge. I booked the $29 twilight rate and was blown away at the value. Yes, it was a bit of a drive from our condo but it was 100% worth it. This course was every bit as nice as the other, more expensive courses that I have played in the area. I highly recommend it.

First time playing here. Great layout, challenging holes, fast greens with surprising hidden breaks,. Only problem was slow pace of play...old timers ahead of us...not aware of the backup they had behind them... not playing ready golf...very frustrating. But sitting there ,taking in the beauty of the course layout, did help take the edge off. Will be back for sure.

Everything is greening up coming out of winter. The fairways are plush and the greens are fast and grown in since the aerification a few weeks ago. Had a pleasant Memorial Day on the course, one of the best in the area.

Greens were newly aerated and dressed with sand NOT DISCLOSED WHEN BOOKING Overall, fairways dry with lots of bare spots, condition around greens was poor.

Greens had been aerified but saw no notification on GN nor did the lady at the desk say anything either. Course looked pretty good overall. Slow play all around, 5 somes all over the course and slow slow slow. We played in a decent time but sat and waited numerous times. Seemed to be following in the majority of the Covid procedures. White tees are 5900 yds. so not real long but some challenging holes, overall fun for an afternoon.

We played the course for the first time today. It is a fantastic layout and has more elevation changes than most Florida courses. The place is beautiful, but.

The greens were just aerated and sanded - they still were pretty true and had good pace - but the fairways had almost no grass, pretty thin would be a compliment.

I’d love to come back after some rain or watering and play it again. It could be a hidden gem with better fairways, it’s still fun to play.

I have been wanting to play this course for a while, the price has got really great, so I took my son out for 18 holes for his birthday... Great experience!

Sorry to say there was severe thunderstorms and rain forecasted for the day so we did not play.

Course was much better than I expected. Greens rolled well and kinda speedy. Never had a issue of not having fairway grass. Course plays tight with tree lines, not like most Destin courses where you just hit wherever you want. Chipping areas around the greens were full of grass, unlike a lot of local courses. Clubhouse guy was super nice. Definitely one of the best valued courses I've played. Lots of groups of 4 that were members in front of us that played at break neck speed. Will play again, soon.

Played front side on 3 previously occasions and course and staff were great. But Saturday afternoon, 11 April 2020 was a complete reversal.

When I attempted to check-in with my 11 year old granddaughter for a full round, the on duty manager was unprofessional. When informed my granddaughter could not ride in my cart and had to instead walk I inquired if this applied to family members as I had observed other family members sharing carts on Thursday afternoon. Instead of explaining the policy change and offering a solution such as a pull cart for her or both of us the manager responded with a terse “I’m not going to argue with you”. So I cancelled our tee time.

Rocky Bayou Country Club’s website states “From beginner to scratch golfer, junior player to senior master, an exceptional day on the course is waiting for you ...” Unfortunately they missed the mark Saturday afternoon.

Tee boxes are pretty good for little rain we had. Greens are fast and fairways are good, fringe around the greens are slow so run ups are slowed down. They’re keeping the carts clean after each use and have foam noodles in the cups. Hope they stay open till next snowbird season, see you then.
