Awesome Views, Good Greens
First Time playing this Los Angeles County Municipal course. Wanted to play a course close to LAX but with character. This course has great views, challenging fairway lies (not many flat lies), nice greens, and flat tee boxes. The fairways are OK, not great with the grass. With the holiday, the course was packed. They send off groups of 5 every 7-8 minutes, I chose to walk the course and love walking a course. Not a bad walk considering how slow the pace. We finished in 5 1/2 hours. Despite the slow play, great snack/lunch shop and the views of the sunset into the Pacific Ocean were awesome.

Pace of play was awful
Tee time on a Saturday was at 1pm. Didn’t tee off until 1:30pm. Constantly waiting for one or two groups in front of us to tee off on every tee box. We averaged 30 mins per hole. Only was able to finish 9. Several 5 sums in groups in front of us, including our group. Greens were in good condition, pace of play NEEDS improvement. Will not be going back on a weekend.
great value, but the slowest of play
we had a 1pm tee time on a wed afternoon. every hole, there were at least two groups, sometimes three waiting on each hole. slow play really killed us that day.
lots of older folks in foursomes, fivesomes attributed to the slow play. some groups waited until the group in front of them got to the green before teeing off, no sense of urgency for the groups waiting behind them.
sundown was at 540pm, and we didn't get to finish our round. a bit ridiculous.
No Thursdays
No Thursdays Senior day and they put five somes out on the course
Poorly Managed Course
This course is notorious for over booking and a terrible pace of play. At one point they switched management and fixed the issue for a short time which was amazing. However they are back to their old terrible ways where you can expect nothing less than a 6 hour round. At one point I ran across three groups of two who refused to join up and there was no Marshall around to police it. So they backed up the whole course. I would not recommend this course to anyone.
Slowest course I’ve ever played
I’m not quite sure how this course is so slow. The course is in desperate need of a ranger or two to speed up the pace of play. 6+ hours for a round is unacceptable.
Los Verdes could be a 5 star muni if it cleaned up its pace of play
I love Los Verdes’ layout. Good mix of long/short 4’s and 3’s with reachable 5’s. There a few wonky holes (#9 in particular) but overall It’s a fun and challenging course. Now with regards to pace of play, I think I may have finished 2-3 rounds out of 10 here because it was just moving too slowly. They send out fivesomes and I believe their times are every 8 min? That’s a recipe for disaster. Rounds are routinely 5 1/2 to 6 hours which is a shame because the course is good with great views on the back 9. For one of the busiest courses in the LA area they do keep it pretty good condition. There are some bare spots here and there but I’ve always thought the greens were very good. You can get a round in around 4-4.5 hrs if you play really early. Weekends are tough no matter what but if you can get out before 7am you enjoy the course.
Lightning
Course is in great shape. Greens were lightning quick. Shot 85 and took title in the group. Played in 4hr 40min.
Course has beautiful ocean views
Course has beautiful ocean views, challenging greens. Unfortunately it has slowest pace of play in Southern California. We had almost a 6 hour round on a Tuesday morning. Course Ambassador marshals did nothing about a very, very slow group two holes ahead of us. We only saw an Ambassador once on the third hole and he obviously did nothing about the pace of the slow group.
Perfect Place for the Views and Green conditions
I had guests in from Michigan and we all loved the course and overall feel for the course. Greens are in great shape and the course is very less experienced golfer friendly!
Slow play. Great course.
Weather as gloomy and wet which may have influenced even slower play. Took all of 6 hours to play as every group is a 5-some. If you’re not in a hurry, this is my favorite course in LA.
The DMV of golf
I'm always torn playing here. It's got some beautiful holes and vistas but you can never get into a rhythm with a pace of play around 5 to 6 hours depending on the day of week. Always a wait for 1-2 groups after every hole and usually around a 5-10 minute wait after every shot. 5 somes are standard crammed as close as possible. Start times are rarely on time and forget about the weekend. Bring a good book and zen mediation techniques to help your patience because you're in for a long day. On the plus side, the staff are friendly but at the end of the day, you are in southern California where the population far exceeds the public course availability. Just like the nonstop grueling traffic on the 405, this course is a microcosm of LA life. If you can accept that or are numb to it, then you'll be fine playing here. But if you're used to steady golf in other cities or private clubs at a pace of 4-4.5 hours, this will be a more disappointing experience. In the crazy hot matrix, this is probably in the danger zone.
