Not as Advertised
Don't wast your money. This place looks like a cow pasture with some nice greens. They claim they won an award in 2011 which is probably the last time they did any real course maintenance. It was dirt and weeds for the most part. The little bit of what might be considered fairway was very patchy and in rough condition.
This course is in good shape.
Course is in good shape but very slow to play. Tee off time was 50 minutes behind schedule. Makes you wonder how many extra bookings were accommodated to put us that far behind. Teams of 5 should not be allowed when it's that busy. Seems to be the norm here. Will be looking at other comparable courses from now on.
Nice layout with excellent greens
Pace of play is the only real negative at this course. We teed off 30 minutes later then our booked tee time. Every group that I saw was a fivesome, and as a result we didn't didn't get to finish our round. A guy in our group said a 5-6 hour round is not uncommon. Good thing you have the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean to occupy your time
Great features but.....
The slow play detracts from all the positives. Sending out groups of five, T-times spaced too closely and waving up groups on the par threes all contribute to a six hour round. If you can put up with waiting on every shot, all other aspects of the course are great. Spectacular views!
Spectacular but oh so slow
This is a spectacular course which could easily be called "Pebble Beach Lite". The layout is varied and challenging. Being able to shape your drives will be a real advantage as many of the holes have significant slopes which will penalize a hook or a slice hit at the wrong time. The greens are in good condition for a public course but the slopes and breaks make them particularly challenging. I would love to play this course again and again if only for the scenery but I won't unless I bring along something to read between shots because the pace of play is painfully slow. My round went just under SIX (6) hours. There wasn't a marshall in sight. The group ahead of me seemed to move appropriately so it must have been a group somewhere ahead of them. I suspect that they simply allow too many fivesomes with insufficient gaps between tee off times. With fivesomes, they need at least a 10 minute gap between tee times. I teed off at 11:30 am and finished at 5:20 pm in fading light. Coming in from Santa Monica, I faced a one hour drive home so it pretty well took up the entire day. I love golf but that's too much time.
Slow play
This was one of the slowest rounds I have ever played, can't believe they allow fivesomes and they walk the course. Great view, but that's it.
Slow Play
Would only recommend during the week as weekend play was 6 hour round...ugh-
This course is beautiful but the pace of play is very slow
I am very disappointed with the tee time booking. Twice we had 1 hour delay and was not able to finish 18 holes. I noticed the starter had preferrential treatments for certain customers. They walked in and got the tee time ahead of us and we got pushed back behind them. Players were extremely slow on the putting green as I am guessing they were betting money. I have been warned about that but wanted to give it a try. I will not come back and will not recommend this course. You can book your tee time but you will not know when you can get on. You are at the mercy of the starter.
Great Venue!
There is probably no better value in local golf than Los Verdes! With the condition of the greens, the course layout, and the ocean views, you really get your money's worth of enjoyment. I will be coming back very soon! Thank you
Lovely death march...
First the positives: beautiful views, very good conditions for a muni and some pretty decent holes as well.
The bad: 5somes, allows people who clearly can't hit their drive over 150yds to play from the tips, didn't see one ranger/marshal the entire time.
I hear if you show ~6am you can get a normal round on but on weekends it is just the worst. Took us 6.5 hours and waited up to 20 minutes on some holes. How they can't seem to make this better is sad. Rancho isn't exactly a 3hr round but they keep things pretty tight and will not tolerate what seems to pass as normal here.
Great Weather, Good Golf
Great time getting a round in. I hadn't played in 2 years. My only complaint was trying to get a tee time. the kids upfront was " Too Busy"
We ended up booking on Golfnow. All went well.
Great layout but sloooooow
Good greens and the course was in OK shape hard fairways. The pace of play was horrible definitely not worth the wait, too bad because the scenic views were awesome. This is a county course so it will be busy, but the starters do a terrible job regulating the play.Won't play here again.
Pace of play
Golf course is excellent specially the green. The only problem I have is that so many players are so slow.I was not able to finish this course..I started at 2:00 .About six PM.I only up to # 10 hole. That's how slow playing people in front of me.The Marshal not there to speed up the game.I decided to quit playing at 11 hole. Please keep the pace of play.
Terrible tee time management.
Over 6 hours and never made it past the 16th hole. One of my favorite courses but not sure I will go due to waiting 30 minutes or longer to tee off per hole and then waiting ten minutes or more between shots. Such a let down that know Los Angeles county course can choose money over pace of play.
Sad to say
This is a scenic view ocean course but that the only positive. The management books 5somes and allows walkers. They also habitually over book so tee times are negatively effected and the pace of play is a geriatric 6+ hours... if you're lucky. If you're serious about golf don't waste your time here. The 19th hole facilities are old and look it. The updated driving range was severely damaged by a recent rain storm so the western section needs to be repaired. Sadly, none of this is exaggerated.
Pure torture
They overbooked so tee times were late as usual. They book five in a group and allow walkers so the pace of play is a geriatric 6+ hours for 18 holes. Worst pace of play in SoCal. If you want to play golf don't bother with this course. If you want a slow leisurely day with beautiful views and are willing to pay $50 to wait for it then this is your course.
We had a 12:22 tee reservation that ran late into a 1:15 tee off. It took another 3.5 hours to finish nine holes. Went to number ten and there were three groups waiting in front of us with a fourth group on the green. We didn't finish. Pure torture. A disgrace to course management in my opinion.
You don't want to play here on the weekend
This is a course with very nice view. Except for that, the condition of the course is not that great. Poor maintenance. I think it's because it's busy most of the time. The course arranged 5 some group on most of the groups that day. it makes the pace EXTREMELY SLOW. We spent almost 6 hours but only finished 14 holes. There were two groups waiting in front of us in one of the par 3 hole .....
Longest 16 Holes Ever
This course is very scenic but the beauty was lost early when we continued with 20 minute waits off of each tee. You can see how golf is losing the younger generation when it takes 51/2 to 6 hours to play 16 holes. We played only 16 because we ran out of daylight
