Golf Club At South Hampton
About
The Golf Club at South Hampton was designed to give every golfer appropriate risk-and-reward opportunities that supply both encouragement to beginners and challenges for more advanced players. The slope and contour of the course’s landscape is its trademark with strategic mounding and over 60 contoured bunkers that emphasize the terrain’s natural undulations. The course features rolling fairways and massive greens. There are also sixteen large lakes that come into play throughout. The signature hole is the tremendous par-5, 17th, which is a scenic hole that features a lake, fairway bunkers, and a breaking green. Although the course is a challenge, there are six sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels.

NO GREENS
The only setback is the greens which were absolutely horrendous. Most were bare dirt or were showing the roots of the grass.
Great Tees and Fairways but the greens are horrible. Shame on GN for promoting this course in this condition. I wouldn’t play twenty buck to play here again. No critique yet inflated their thoughts on the greens. In fact, no one could describe justly how bad they are.
Not what it used to be
South Hampton is a fun track. Unfortunately, the greens are in terrible condition. The last few times I have played here it has had issues with patchy greens and or extremely slow greens. I cannot recommend paying the $60 green fee for the course at this time. I hope that they can figure out the greens, because the course layout is fun
Stay Away
Pace of play is horrible. 4 hours 35 mins to play 18.
Greens are painted dirt. Yes, painted dirt! There is no chance of improvement until a renovation occurs. Sand traps are all different types of sand or hard pan. I know it's a hazard. but some consistency is expected. There are as many areas of bare dirt and roots as there is grass in the rough. Overall the course is worn out and needs a lot more attention than DWA Golf seems to be willing to give it.
Please stop playing here
The only way this course gets better is by hurting them where it hurts, no funds.
They are laughing in your face while taking your money for goat track conditions.
Course is unputtable, greens are terrible.
What the heck
What is going on with these courses around Jacksonville?
I’ve played Southampton for many years and it’s always been in great shape and a joy to play on. Yesterday I played there and wondered how they even call it a golf course. Ok the fairways are ok, but there was almost no green grass on the greens. Just dead brown grass with dead spots and lumps in them. We have had a ton of rain lately so there is no excuse for this. And yet they still charged me almost $70 to play. I don’t get how a supposedly nicer course for this area gets in this bad of shape, and how they justify $70 to play
Won’t happen again.
Review
First time playing this course and absolutely loved the layout of this course. It was very fair. The greens are in pretty bad shape bud that was explained to us before we tees off. But for the money it was an overall good experience and I will definitely come back.
What Happened
I always considered South Hampton a premiere course over the years of playing there I always looked forward to it. But the GREENS were in the WORST shape I have seen at South Hampton. They did not hold well, the grass is-I'm not even sure if it is grass-made putting bumpy and difficult. These greens had bare spots on almost every one of them and there was a chunk of sod estimated about 3ft round missing near one of the holes. And then the holes themselves looked like they were several days old. For the price I paid for my wife and I to play on these greens was outrageously high. I DO NOT recommend playing South Hampton at this time because you are going to be over charged with these green conditions. My question for management is, what happened?
Greens in despair
Greens were absolute terrible. Spoke with the clubhouse after my round and they said the greens are still recovering from aeration and it hasn’t rained enough. The whole course was dry and sandy. It didn’t look like the greens had been aerated any time recently but I could be wrong. At the end of the day the green fees this course chargers compared to the condition of the course, specifically the greens, just screams of greed and deception. Course provided no notice of the condition of the greens nor is the condition reflected in the rates. Really a shame and I will not be wasting my money at this course and neither should anyone else.
I have played this course numerous times and today was the worst conditions of the greens.
I will not play the course again until the greens improve.
It is sad as south hampton is one of my favorite courses.
Hopefully the green will improve soon.
Got a hot deal? Play here , otherwise go elsewhere
I never leave reviews but over the years I’ve had friends say they love this course . I very much enjoyed the layout and it was pretty forgiving . The greens are abominable … really. I don’t know that I’ve seen worse greens since Bent Creek turned theirs to dust a couple of years ago. I’ll be back sometime when it gets maintenance it needs , but not soon .
The greens were in terrible shape
I have played the course many times and always found the course in good condition especially the greens. However, the greens were in terrible shape and I was very disappointed. I will not play the course again until the greens are in good shape.
GREENS NEED HELP
Very surprised at how bad the condition of the greens were, I won't be going back for quite awhile.
